She was very attentive, polite, and friendly, all while being super chill. She was simply wonderful. Like 30% tip type of wonderful. However, the other gal at the counter seemed to have woken up on the wrong side of the bed. She was clearly a manager or owner because she kept instructing our wonderful server how to do certain side work. I can never seem to understand why some managers or owners just won't smile and foster a welcoming atmosphere for the business. I get that you might be busy doing admin. work or whatever it is you're doing but you can multitask and slip a smile or two in. It literally takes one second to smile. A simple smile and thank you goes a loooooong way. Now the food. The broth had a rich flavor with an overpowering taste of cinnamon. I looked around the restaurant and noticed that the only other customer I saw without basil was another Black woman. When my two egg rolls arrived, they were cold. I don't eat cold food, so I left them on the table untouched. I asked the gentleman serving me if I could please bring me some basil. Instead of bringing it himself, he spoke to the woman who had taken my order. She came back and asked what I needed. I said, "Some basil, please." She responded, "More?" At that point, I didn't respond. I simply thought to myself, You never gave me any in the first place. She then brought the basil to my table, but there was a fairly large bug on one of the basil sprigs. When my pho arrived, the noodles were overcooked and mushy, making the soup unpleasant to eat. From the moment I walked in, I did not feel welcomed. The overall service was disappointing, and the food quality was poor. When it was time to pay, I chose not to leave a tip. I usually tip generously when I receive good service, but I cannot reward poor service and substandard food. I left feeling that I was treated differently, and that was upsetting.
