WARNING - READ THIS BEFORE YOU VISIT DR. IYEVENDA I am a 68 year-old female. When I met with Dr. Iyevenda for a consult for deep plane facial surgery I specifically told her I wanted to get rid of my nasal labial folds, the frown lines around my mouth and to brighten my eyes. As I spoke, she nodded and smiled. She stood me in front of a mirror and moved my skin to show me what I could expect. She recommended an upper blepharoplasty, lower blepharoplasty with fat transfer, deep plane extended facelift (includes neck and temporal) and earlobe repair. The total cost including operating room and anesthesia was $45,888. She didn't discuss other options and didn't tell me that any of my goals might not be met. I met with other staff members prior to surgery and they were so excited for me. Not one warned me of anything other than general surgery concerns. Diana told me my face would be snatched. I went into the surgery expecting to come out with the results I hoped for. Approximately week 2 or 4 following surgery, I told Dr. Iyevenda I was disappointed with the frown lines around my mouth - there was no improvement and they were really deep. She told me I had thick skin. At my 8 week follow-up, I again expressed my disappointment with those deep frown lines. At the time, I was sitting in an exam room with Dr. Iyevenda and another female employee. Dr. Iyevenda told me to come with her to review my photos. There was no reason to leave the room since the photos were on the laptop that she had in her hands. Once she had me alone in the second room, she pulled up the before picture and compared it to one of me smiling following surgery. I pointed out that I was smiling and it wasn't a fair comparison. At that point, she glared at me, raised her voice and said "fine! we'll look at a different picture." When she pulled up the before and after, I said there was no difference in the before and after photos. She began to mock me. She rolled her eyes and said very sarcastically and loudly "how am I supposed to get rid of them? There is no way to get rid of them! Do you want to look like this?" (this is when she placed her hands on each side of her face and pushed the skin up toward her head - making an exaggerated face. I told her my surgeon got rid of them in my previous plastic surgery and she replied "Oh, right - 10 years ago!" She then said "It's good enough!" and walked out of the room. I followed her into the original exam room with the employee witness. Dr. Iyevenda sat down, leaned in and said very sweetly, "I care about you and want you to be part of our practice for years and years. I will see you in another month." This made my skin crawl. She took me out of a safe environment to a room without a witness, harassed and bullied me, mocked me and made it clear she had no interest in my satisfaction and would absolutely recommend nothing to satisfy my concerns and then changed to a concerned caregiver in front of a witness. I felt so betrayed and humiliated. I trusted Dr. Iyevenda with my life (literally). I believed that she had my best interest in mind or that she would at least meet her requirements under the terms of our contract. In the meantime, as the swelling on my face went down, there is no fat around my forehead or cheeks and all the skin on the lower part of my face melted - it just fell down below my chin. I have jowls around my jaw and deep lines at my mouth and nasal labial folds. These are things that Dr. Iyevenda could easily fix, but she won't. Evidently, you get one shot for your money. She told me to get a second opinion. I sought a second and third opinion. The second opinion said that other patients of Dr. Iyevenda have gone to her for filler following surgery and they were angry that Dr. Iyevenda didn't tell them before surgery that they would likely need additional procedures to get the results they want. I also consulted with a plastic surgeon who said that the surgery would not remove the deep frown lines around my mouth and I should have been advised of that before the surgery. He said filler would take care of that and he could fix my jowls for $14,000. IF YOU DECIDE TO MEET WITH DR. IYEVENDA, HAVE YOUR QUESTIONS READY AND MAKE HER DOCUMENT HER ANSWERS. WILL THE PROCEDURE DO WHAT YOU WANT IT TO DO? WHAT ADDITIONAL TREATMENTS MIGHT YOU NEED? IF YOU PAY $45,000 AND ARE NOT HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS, WILL SHE DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. ALWAYS TAKE A WITNESS AND NEVER BE ALONE IN A ROOM WITH DR. IYEVENDA. I never went back after the 8-week appointment. I don't trust Dr. Iyevenda and even if she had offered to fix it after all of this, I wouldn't let her. I have never been so disappointed in a medical professional than I am in Dr. Iyevenda. She should be ashamed of herself. I plan to file a complaint with the medical board, Adult Protective Services and the Better Business Bureau and/or Attorney General for breach of contract. read more
