I was recommended to Dr Potter by my breast surgeon Dr Wiatrek after an early stage breast cancer diagnosis. I first thought I would go implants but did have belly fat to work with after having a child, so DIEP and not having to worry about negative reactions to implants anytime on the future felt right. Dr Potter is a highly skilled microsurgeon. My outcome for DIEP post 6 weeks has been positive thus far. The caring the team shows is immense. Her PA Whitney and Bernaise are knowledgeable and fast to respond. Mary at her front desk was a patient so she give great encouragement understanding and support. I love the nurses!! Kathy! Samantha! Elaine! I know I am forgetting others. When I told Samantha that the expanders and the bras I had were so painful she made great suggestions and even had one in office for me to try and head home with. My surgeries were at St David's and went extremely well the nursing care I got post DIEP was absolutely fab very closely guided by Dr Potter's requirements. I recently started massage with Annaliese who is in Dr Potter's office twice a week to support patients. She is lymphatic and post surgical manual lymphatic drainage massage therapy certified. SHE IS OUT OF THIS WORLD good!! You don't have to be a patient of Dr Potter to see her. Dr Potter is quite effective with her time so a lot of your care comes from her team but she has hand picked them and trained them and they are awesome. I can't say I "enjoyed" having a double mastectomy/reconstruction but Dr. Potter and her team have certainly made it as pleasant as it could possibly be! With 2 procedures and all the follow-ups I have spent plenty of time there this year (most of it with her staff) and they are ALL wonderful kind women and very on top of any concerns I had during the healing process. Luckily I only needed after-hours assistance once for a drain issue and someone got back to me very quickly and kept in touch till the issue resolved itself around midnight. There is also easy texting access where you can send pics if you have concerns and those were replied to promptly as well. Dr. Potter herself is very transparent about what is and isn't possible, implants will never look or feel like the real thing, "nature does it best", we can release the scar tissue but it may not make a significant enough difference to merit another surgery etc... as well as the pro's/con's, risks associated with the surgeries, fat grafting etc... I felt like I had the info I needed to make the decisions I felt most comfortable with. I am very happy with my results, they look far more natural than some other implant reconstructions I've seen. I am living a post-surgical outcome that never would have crossed my mind. I decided to pursue a prophylactic mastectomy as a mother of two young children. The indication was soft, but I opted to proceed based on my mother's diagnosis of breast cancer at age 39 followed by 26 years of living with metastatic cancer.   I expressed interest in a DIEP flap, as I was hopeful to be spared breast implants - especially if this would simultaneously allow for diastasis repair and reconstruction of stretched skin around the belly button. In my search for a surgeon, there was not one that came recommended for DIEP in my home state. With a BMI of 19.5, little did I know preoperatively that the procedure was an egregious surgical plan for me. I was sadly overly trusting that a fellow female physician would recommend the best for me (aesthetically anyway). The vast majority of patients that choose DIEP flap do so either to avoid implants altogether and/or to repurpose an excess of abdominal fat. I have since learned that a BMI of 27 to 32 is considered the sweet spot of DIEP flap candidacy (a far cry from 19.5). Dr. Potter did tell me that implants could not be avoided in my case (so that was no surprise).  As a physician myself, I know well that each treatment plan comes with the question of what can be done versus what should be done. It was Dr. Potter's basic due diligence to gauge the gross disconnect (between my body habitus and DIEP flap candidacy) and to explain why this would have been a terrible choice for me. In fact, I have since spoken to 8 other breast/reconstructive surgeons to explore revision options - all of whom were stunned by her having even entertained a DIEP flap in my case. One of those surgeons (a former colleague of Dr. Potter) very accurately stated, "If you're a nail, she's a hammer" and that "this was a chip shot implant case". I learned too in those conversations with other surgeons that a decision on this scale can take 3+ pre-operative visits before the best interest of both the patient can be finalized. Dr. Potter was ready to operate after meeting me only once on a telehealth encounter. I insisted on meeting her at least once in person before proceeding. Sadly, that still wouldn't have been enough.  I have to wonder if her haste partly stemmed from my lack of medical complexity (appeal of an easy surgical case) and the limited reimbursement (if any) for telehealth visits. Dr. Potter was equally brazen in our postoperative encounters. All of my telehealth appointments during the first 6 weeks after surgery were solely with a mid-level provider. I think any patient would have expected to see the surgeon him-/herself in the immediate aftermath of such a major surgery. I did see Dr. Potter by telehealth at 6 weeks post-op but only after I requested it. At that time, I was having a lot of subcutaneous pain in the R lower pelvis (slow to dissolve stitches). She reflexively stated that the stitches could be removed at 4 months if still painful at that time. I received counsel from another reputable plastic surgeon soon after that that anything expected to dissolve should be left alone unless necessary. Sure enough, those subcutaneous stitches ultimately dissolved on their own and any associated pain was self-resolving. Similarly, she was quick to offer a lowering of the abdominal scar at 4 mos. Such a scar should be left untouched for at least 6-12 mos. More importantly, lowering the scar would have come with little to no gain: 2 cm lowering maximum due to paucity/tautness of the skin, a wider scar, and further distortion of the belly button. Lastly, she was uninterested at best when explaining options for recontouring of the breasts.  I realized then that any further surgical advice or help should come from a third party; there was nothing productive or even healthy that would result from future interaction with her. At first I thought that a high scar (above the hip bones) would be my primary psychological hurdle. Instead, I am living so many other harsh realities: distortion of the belly button, hypertrophic scar at the border of the belly button, abdominal bulge at the scar site, clefting where the breast meets the chest wall. I never imagined that I would spend tens of thousands of dollars (plane tickets, housing, child care, medical expenses) only to wish for my old body back or for my post-partum body insecurity to worsen.  Based on my petite frame, my short torso, my cancer risk, and her career interests, Dr. Potter would have best served me by humbly declining my case. She does not have the patience or empathy to take care of non-cancer patients or patients with only moderate cancer risk (for whom aesthetics is a much higher priority). I would strongly re-consider any plan to employ her services outside of this niche. I am now left with a body that I can barely stand to acknowledge. As I navigate all the stages of grief and trauma, I can only hope that time will heal. read more

I went to Doctor Potter for my deep flap reconstruction surgery and am extreamly pleased. This review however is about the massage therapist she hired, Anneliese Feldner. Until a few years ago, I was very active. Now at 67, I have a lot of spine issues from my neck to my lower back (sciatica). I've also had years of cancer treatments and associated operations. I worked through it all, until my back issues got worse. Life started getting overwhelming between all the different doctors, shots, and pain. I've been in PT (at TX Ortho. with Ryan, who is the best PT I've ever been to, fyi) and am in the care of multiple back, hip and knee specialists. I feel l've been chasing the issues around. I've been to many massage therapists over the past few years and most made my back feel worse. Finally I found someone that took the time to listen and understand my issues. Anneliese is the best medical massage person I have ever been to. She has extensive knowledge about the body and knows how to release tight muscles that effect all parts of your body. She clearly cares about my total health in ways that no one else has. PT is very helpful, but only focuses on one area at a time. Anneliese focuses on my whole body health. I knew after my first session that she was the missing link. She has made such a difference, physically and mentally in less than a month. Thank you Annelese, for giving me my life back. Is it weird to be sad when you're done with reconstruction and are told you don't need to be seen again for a whole year? Probably, but that's a testament to how wonderful Dr. Potter and her team are. I had a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy and chose Dr. Potter for reconstruction (immediate placement of tissue expanders which were later exchanged for silicone implants). First off, she's an incredible surgeon and I couldn't be happier with the results. But just as important, Dr. Potter and her entire team are lovely humans who made me feel cared for in every interaction. They somehow make going to doctor's appointments an enjoyable experience and thanks to them this whole process was significantly easier (both physically and mentally) than I had anticipated. I have some serious concerns with how my request for insurance coverage was mishandled. My first appointment with Dr. Potter's office was in December 2019. During that appointment, I expressed that I wanted to see if insurance would cover my breast reduction. I know that I was heard because the staff member in the room commented, "We have payment plan options." That was not what I asked. It took someone until the week of my surgery to offer me an insurance option. That was cruel! How could I cancel everything at that point. I am so impressed with everything about Dr Potter and her team! Dr Potter is a hero, a true American Super Hero...for my body! I was diagnosed with BRCA 2 and was referred to Dr Potter for my DIEP flap reconstructive surgery. For those of you who don't know about DIEP flap...its insane. They remove your stomach fat, make it into beautiful new boobies, and give you a tummy tuck. So after being petrified and completely emotional about having my breasts and ovaries removed at least I got the reward of a new body. Dr Potter and her team are SO detailed and SO caring. They tell you everything ahead of time and make sure you really understand that you will be sore, but it wont last forever. They were available for after hours calls and advise, easily accessible by email or phone, which i loved. After a full day of 3 surgeries I felt like i got hit by a truck, but Dr Potter and her team were there along the way. Dr Potter works so well with the Nurses at Seton that they knew exactly what to look for and how she wanted things to go during the hospital stay. And the Nurses LOVE and respect her, which says a lot. After a couple days I was released to go home and to be honest...not really in much pain. I looked like i was sewn back together but Dr Potter's team kept telling me how great I look and how wonderfully I was healing. It is an emotional surgery as well but i never felt like this new body was not mine. I had minimal pain and was able to do most things within the first week and went back to work by 3 weeks post op. The ladies were so encouraging and supportive. During my weekly follow up appointments, Dr Potter and her team always gave me positive reports and made me feel beautiful. Dr Potter, you are a godsend! You have taken my negative diagnosis and made everything in my life so much better. Over the course of 2019 to early 2020 I lost roughly 100 pounds. Because of this and just generally getting older some things just weren't where they used to be, so I saw Dr. Potter for a consult to see what she recommended. Initially, I'd planned to see several surgeons before making a decision about if, where and when I should have the procedure I was considering. She made me feel so comfortable that I ended up scheduling much more quickly than I originally intended to. I was so nervous, but she answered all my questions and talked me through each step and made me feel so at ease with my decision. I'm so happy with my result. Dr. Potter only wants cash paying patients and tried using scare tactics with me to get me not to use insurance. Well joke was on her, I didn't want her to be my doctor after my first appointment. She said if I used insurance for my breast reduction the minimum amount required by insurance to be removed from each breast is 500 grams (this is accurate), but she guessed my breasts weighed 600 grams each (wrong, I was an F cup) and that would leave me with 100 gram breasts which equals a very small A cup. She wanted me to pay cash up front before the surgery and then they would try to get insurance to cover it after the surgery and insurance could reimburse me if covered. I needed to know if I could actually afford this surgery, not go into debt and then find out later it wouldn't be covered. She also told me that if I were to use insurance the ONLY goal is to get the weight out. Symmetry, balance, appearance, lift, etc. were not included and would be a separate cost. I had my surgery on October 2, 2019 with a different doctor and he removed 1,060 grams from one breast and 1,050 grams from the other for a total of 2110 grams = 4.65 pounds. AND I'm a C cup now. He removed more weight from each breast than what Dr. Potter even thought each of my breasts weighed! This was my main issue with Dr. Potter. 2017 was a crazy year for many reasons, but being diagnosed with a rare form of breast cancer and everything that came along for the journey was something I wasn't prepared for in the least. I was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma in my right breast and the plan was a lumpectomy and radiation, it all seemed pretty straight forward. I had the lumpectomy, but it unfortunately failed, the tumor was larger than imaged and the margins were not clean. Next step was the recommendation to have a unilateral mastectomy and reconstruction. Dr Sprunt was my breast surgeon who I really liked, and she referred me to Dr Elizabeth Potter. I googled her, went to her website, read the wonderful reviews and scheduled my appointment. She walked in the room with an air of confidence and a big warm smile. She answered my questions, looked me over and said, yes you are a candidate for DIEP Flap, and I left feeling confident I was in good hands. Dr Potter was there for my mastectomy, placed the tissue expander and stitched me back up. It would be a while before the DIEP Flap would happen, but....after these two surgeries things just went downhill and the really hard journey began. The cancer was gone, I didn't even have to do radiation or chemo, but I wasn't healing, in fact I was just getting worse. The incision turned black and Dr Potter had to do a debridement, her eyes looking at the incision so inquisitively, she even said it's so odd for this to happen. Within a couple of days of the debridement surgery I was at home on a Saturday night feeling literally like death was looming and my spouse called Dr Potter's answering service and Dr Potter called us right back. I remember crying and telling her I felt horrible, the site where the drain tube was located was red, swollen and irritated, my eyes were puffy and my face was red. We sent her pictures and she immediately had my spouse pull the drain tube out, took me off the clindamycin and put me on a steroid pack. I did feel so much better, but by the end of the week I was back in the hospital on an IV antibiotic drip because Rachel did not like the coloring around the expander and she and Dr Potter did not take any chances. It was while I was in the hospital that the results of some blood work came back and my liver enzymes were through the roof, I mean extremely elevated. I knew something was wrong, because my urine was very dark and my body was getting very itchy and I had no idea why. Dr Potter walked in my room and said what's up with your liver? She thought it might be gall stones and off she went getting doctors in to evaluate me and so forth. I did end up with a really good GI, Dr Sperling who did tons of liver tests and it was determined it was a reaction to medication, so clindamycin and metformin were on my "do not take" list. Damage was done though, I became jaundice, I had yellow fluid escaping from the incision and the incision started to split open. Dr Potter wanted to remove the expander, but was told not to do surgery until my liver enzymes went back to normal, which they did, and I had the 4th surgery to remove the expander. Within 3 days I was in the ER with very elevated liver enzymes again, and my next appointment with Dr Potter was basically her telling me I was not a candidate for the surgery, and I understood, I was a very high-risk patient and there were no definitive answers as to why. I kept searching though and finally got answers, it was determined I have a rare reaction to sevoflurane, the gas used in anesthesia. After four surgeries all using the gas, I'm lucky to still have a functioning liver. Dr Potter and I talked about moving forward now that we knew the cause and anesthesia had other viable options using liquid and I wanted the surgery. I checked into St Davids Surgical center in Round Rock and I had my DIEP Flap. I'm doing great today, feeling stronger every day and the reconstruction Dr Potter did is awesome! I call my new boobie Bella because she came from my belly and she is beautiful. And as an added perk, I have a flat tummy, something I haven't had since my 20's! I've talked about the many challenges, but what I want to iterate is this, I always trusted in Dr Potter, her abilities are amazing, her confidence is through the roof and she carries you, she is just strong in that way and it goes such a long way for a person in my situation. You always hear that having a great team of doctors is so important, well I did have a great team, particularly Dr Potter! And, I cannot say enough about her entire staff, Lauren, Rachel, Sarah, Sally, Geysha, Jessica were always super professional, knowledgeable, available, responsive and caring. I went to many practices in 2017, over 90 appointments to various doctors and I could see the differences between how practices were managed the quality of their staff and so forth and in my opinion Dr Potter and her team are the best, they set the bar pretty darn high! read more

So her work for my bilateral mastectomy and the reconstruction was great. BUT the time she spent actually speaking to me and answering questions probably doesn't even total an hour. That includes surgery days. Also my after care after my implant reconstruction was horrible. I kept contacting the office about pain and that one of my implants looked funny. (Mind you I did everything exactly how they said) they finally took me into the office after a couple weeks of pain and complaining. I get seen and I'm told it's my skin still tight and that my implant is definitely not flipped. A couple more weeks pass by, and the other flips and I'm thinking wow if this is how they are suppose to look that is really gross. Well the very next morning one of them flips back on its own. So I googled it and flipped the other by myself. I ask for my medical records because I would be going elsewhere and NO ONE reached out to see if they could help. They absolutely didn't care one bit. read more

I'm pleased to be the first reviewer on Yelp for Dr. Elisabeth Potter. New to Austin, and MD Anderson trained, Dr. Potter is a breath of fresh air. She's knowledgeable, supportive, and thorough. Each time I've been to her office, she's patiently answered my questions, guided me through my options, and been pressure-free about my decision-making. Her presence is comforting, and she makes herself available to her patients beyond office hours, something I haven't found to be super common. On surgery day, she showed up confident and excited which put me at ease after struggling with my breast reconstruction options for months on end. My fat grafting surgery went off without a hitch, and upon removal of my compression garment and dressings in 2 days, I was pleased with both the results of my breast and the lipo results on my stomach, flanks and back area. They had good DIEP flap surgeon's up there, but no real STARS. So I waited until we completed our move to Texas. I did my research and found a STAR! She has done over 500 DIEP's and is an artist. She is caring, attentive, extremely knowledgeable, this is who you want doing this procedure for you! The results....I continue to get compliments from other doctors and therapists I see for other reasons. One therapist even asked if I thought she would come talk to their DIEP surgeons about her procedures , she was serious too. If you pick Dr. Potter you will be in expert hands. read more

Awesome! Dr. Potter and her entire team are awesome! My journey with Dr. Potter has been filled with honesty, kindness, empathy and support. I was apprehensive on my first visit because I have a friend who had a horrible experience with a different surgeon. My fears were soon dissolved. I'm a week post op of my revision surgery with Dr.Potter and I must say I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the job she did on my breasts. They are exactly how I wanted them to be and I knew she could do it. What she did on me was scar revision which basically she cut some more of my skin off and she tightened it so that divet that was on my left breast is now no more. Every time I look down at it I am always shocked to see that it's not there anymore. Lol I have to touch it just to make sure. I am just so amazed it's no longer there. It's almost too good to be true. She also tightened the skin on my right breast which made it look a little fuller and similar to my left breast. Now she only did half of each breast but she did tell me if in a year I want to have the other sides done I can. Which I definitely would like to have done to make them even because the nipple on the left breast looks pulled way over to the center of my chest and if I got the other side of that cut and pulled back more it would even my nipple back out. Same with my right breast the nipple would look more even pulled back some and the breast would be tighter and fuller. She said she only did half because she thought it would be too tight which is understandable. I don't know if she would but I would definitely love for her to do the other sides. To be honest Dr.Potter is the ONLY doctor I would trust working on me. I wouldn't trust seeing another doctor. She is so knowledgeable when it comes down to little details like weight loss and excess skin. When I first met with her early of this year I could tell that about her just by the things she said to me. She has excellent bed side manners and always comes in the room with a huge smile on her face, happy, and ready to get down to business. Overall she just has a great personality is a very warm person. Just a warm and good person in every way that loves doing what she does. I really wish she had been at Seton when I had my breast reduction surgery in 2012 and that scar revision surgery in 2012 also. I definitely would have went with her instead of who I got stuck with. She spends time with her patients, listens to them, makes sure all of their questions are answered, and makes you feel comfortable. She's very thorough and wants to make sure her patients care and comfort are first. The staff is all very nice and pleasant also. Specifically her nurse Jessica Estrada and surgery tech Ebony Davis. Her office is very pleasant clean. This time I had my surgery done at Seton on west 38th street and even my nurse and staff there were all great. Overall I had a wonderful experience and I am so happy with my results and grateful to have had Dr.Potter! read more

I have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Dr Potter is my plastic surgeon who will reconstruct my breasts after my double mastectomy. She was in the OR to put tissue expanders into my chest during the double mastectomy. This has been, as you could imagine, a very stressful, difficult time for me. I'm only 42 and to lose my breasts and face cancer is really hard. I felt so much better after my first consultation with Dr. Potter. Seeing pictures of women that she has reconstructed after cancer gave me hope that I could look like myself again. I've chosen a procedure called DIEP flap, in which Potter will use fat from my belly to rebuild my breasts. I can't tell you how much I like her staff. They are all kind, sympathetic, classy, smart, and very willing to spend a lot of time in person or on the phone helping answer my questions.
