I've been here one too many times now that I've tried the food, but for a while, I didn't come in because the decor was very sterile and the menu had unfamiliar Mexican and Latin American dishes. Technically they serve Yucatán food, and I think Yucatán covers area in both Mexico and other parts of Latin America.
The smell of the restaurant however was always delicious every time I walked by. It was a nice change for the TL. Anyways, I decided to come in and try their torta sandwich with carnitas, but it was more like a char grilled pork. It came with hot salsa, avocado, vegetables, and onions. It was $8 or $9 but it was a hefty sandwich, providing great value for the size. Everything was well-seasoned, and the pork was so juicy.
Subsequent visits, I tried the panuchos, which are basically flat fried tortilla tacos with a bean base. Again, the pork with the caramelized onions was to die for. So juicy and meaty and you can be full with 2 or 3 tacos, and they're only $3.50 each (again, they're very generous with the meat). The only pitfalls of this dish is that the middle becomes a tad soggy if you don't eat it right away, as the meat is so juicy along with any added lime juice or salsa.
The chicken panucho on the other hand came with avocado and a bit of pickled onion. Chicken was a tad too dry for me, so I prefer the pork version. I think their pork is overall just amazingly seasoned.
Chicken Asado, which is basically a chicken drumstick with two thighs, cabbage slaw, pickled onions, beans, and rice was great value for the money. It's about $17, but it also comes with tortillas and salsa, so you can make your own tacos. This lasted me about 3 meals, and it's very healthy. However, again, I found the chicken to be not as juicy as the pork, so while it's a good dish to eat on a diet, I probably won't get it again unless I want more bang for my buck.
Finally, I tried their $3.50 empanada. It's much bigger than a typical empanada and it's stuffed with either pork, chicken, or cheese. I ordered the pork version that also came with bell peppers and other seasonings. This comes with a tomato sauce, reminiscent of Italian tomato sauce (it's not really a salsa since there's no acidic taste), cabbage slaw, and pickled onions. I really enjoy the fresh tastes of their cabbage slaw, as it's light, slightly acidic, and refreshing. Pickled onions are also great since they cut the richness of the food.
Service is great. The people there will be happy to explain what any of the dishes are, and the food is prepared within 10 minutes. Can't wait to go back! read more
