It's too bad that he wasn't listed when googling yesterday for garage door repair where i evidently called a call center, Precision (888-629-6127) who directed me to "Garage Door Service (949-542-6999). Joel replaced the garage door springs and brackets which were replaced yesterday by Garage Door Service who charged me $4,400 for that plus brackets, labor and tax. "They" told me that i needed a new wall motor and quoted me the lowest price of $2,700 to fix my problem. Thankfully, i wanted at least one other estimate and Joel, an honest self-employed man (my parents were self-employed) came. He was actually more upset than my aunt and i over what they did - wrong parts, outrageous repair bill and wrong "fix" of replacing the motor. The true garage door fix was to replace the springs, with the correct springs. And the cost with labor under $450 vs. $4,400!

Aggressive Upsell and Worthless "Warranty"…read more TLDR: they will aggressively upsell you to replace things that aren't broken, promising a seven year warranty. But when something they install doesn't work, it's total crickets. Longer version: Little over a year ago, the spring on my garage door broke. Should be a couple hundred dollar job. These guys come out and the upsell starts right away: Upsell 1: they say I should replace the springs on both doors, even though only one was broken. Upsell 2: they then aggressively sold me to replace both openers even though both still worked. Their pitch was that the openers were old, that if I replaced them now, they would give me a great deal and then I wouldn't have to worry about my garage doors for years to come. They specifically emphasized that they stood behind their work with a seven year warranty. Their prices are definitely on the higher side for the industry. So what should have been a couple hundred dollar job turned into a bill over $4,000. Fast forward to current day. One of the openers they put in starts not working. I call, they come out. And the very first thing they recommend is: Upsell 3: They claim there's nothing wrong with the opener. It's something with my doors. The red flags were definitely there. Because I know that door moves up and down smoothly. But they insist this is the problem, which they then fix for $1000. (Well above market rates). So now I'm into these guys for $5000. And a day later, the opener stops working again. They come out, leave. Problem remains. They come out again. Problem remains. It is absolutely obvious that the opener is defective, and if they stood behind their 7-year warranty, they would put a new one in. But they won't. So I'm down $5000 for a job that probably should have cost 50% of that if I had taken my time and gotten multiple quotes and dealing with a doubly dangerous situation (the door stays open so thieves can get into my garage, and there is a risk of it coming down and injuring someone). They then finally replace the opener, but with a vastly inferior version with less power and less features. The reason? Because they're losing money by doing warranty work! Seriously, what's the point of the warranty then. I'm not saying you should never use these guys, but if you do, take the following advice: 1. Make SURE you get a quote, including from a big box store like HD, before you buy their upsell. You may find a significant price difference. 2. Take any warranty claim with a huge grain of salt.

He said that the weak hinge was a problem causing the gate to not be even and that I needed a stronger hinge. The repairmen came by within a few days but an hour early when I may not have been there. He welded the new hinge and the problem was still there. The gate wouldn't close because the space wasn't there. The repairmen said he was only there to weld. He called the company to talk to me about this issue. The company called me and said everything looks good right? It was not. He and the repairman had a long conversation over the phone because he had to be somewhere else. The repairman after checking the closure, stated that a space/hole needed to be cut into the wooden pole to push the metal plate in. He ended up putting in the hole and it does close now. The repairman did really seem to try to fix the gate. Overall 3.5 stars. Positives: The initial service call and repair time was quick. The gate looks fixed and repairman who came out seemed nice and tried to make things right. Negatives: Putting in the new hinge didn't really seem to fix anything and felt like an extra cost still. On the phone, they tried to explain that they have a lot of experience with these gates and that the hinge needed to be replaced. With all that experience, why did they not see this other problem. After they fixed the gate, I then recalled that a different gate company in the past (for a different issue) told me the pole was the problem. Maybe I will use that company in the future instead. The company seems to track reviews closely. I got a call about my review within 15 minutes of posting. They wanted to find out what happened.

He explained the problems, troubleshoot and replaced my torsion springs, and even properly set up the garage door distance to ensure they close and open nicely. In summary: straight forward, customer focused experience Here's the story if you want the details. Pro-line was the 4th company I contacted to get my dying garage door motor replaced. First guy never answered. Second guy showed up and took a look, never sent me an estimate because he said he was too busy. I found a third company that showed up but the technician didn't know much so I couldn't ask many questions, he had to call his uncle for information, and I requested an estimate from the uncle but took over 24 hours to send it, by which time I'd contacted Pro-line. I received a pre-estimate immediately in Yelp. We arranged for Jimmy to come by the next day. I'd done lots of research so had lots of questions. I'm going from like a 20 year old garage motor to these new fancy schmancy motors. Jimmy showed up exactly on time and was really informative when answering my questions. Gave me all the details for the three options. Chain vs belt, rail systems, warranties, controls, wear and tear, and so on. This consult was super straightforward and informative and it helped me come to the best decision for my situation, and he wasn't trying to be salesy, exactly how customer service should go. I selected the chain motor option (#2), a little pricier but worth the durability in a garage that gets extremely hot in summer. He emailed me the quote while we were standing in my garage. We scheduled the appt for 3 days later (today!) and he showed up exactly on time again. Pulled up at 8:45 and was done at 10:30. He showed me how to use everything and all about the new installations: garage motor, rail system, wall button, clickers, mobile app, and new sensors. And informed me about the optimizations he did to the overall setup so that everything was working like new and not squeaking any longer. Also took the old system away, which some companies charge for. As for the product, it's a LiftMaster chain motor that has a backup power source for when the electricity goes out, which is great because there's no other access points to the garage. Even though it's a chain motor, it's really quiet, like 50 times quieter than my old motor. It connects to wifi, and the MyQ app, which means I can use my phone to open and close the door, AND also check in the app if I left it open. The motor can now auto lift the door if it tries to close onto something that is not right in the line of the sensor - the door will go back up. My last motor didn't have that option and my old door broke! (On my friend's car bumper) Great experience getting my garage working again. Seeing and hearing his assessment I felt comfortable with his diagnosis and his solution. When he returned in a couple of days with the parts, he quickly implemented his solution, and thoroughly tested his fix to the extent where I felt very comfortable. This included identifying existing remote gate controllers that were coded incorrectly. And he held true to his verbal cost estimate from the other day. When asked about replacing another gate, his response was that it was in good shape and there was no need to replace it. This response just contributed to how I describe him.
