There was a bar, merchandise you could buy, and some photo opps. Check in started at 11:30am but we didn't arrive until a little after 1:00pm. We checked our clothes, had a drink, and it was time for the race. The race started at 1:30pm. Everyone's energy was great! I loved all the different costumes. The race was about a mile and it was through the streets and over a bridge. After the race, there was a party with a DJ. Overall, I had so much fun.

Our Yelp team, 'Baby it's Yelp Outside', raised over $7K+ towards this charity and won third place in fundraising for NYC...Whoo Hoo!!! Thanks to all of my supporters and contributors in helping me reach my fundraising goals which added to the teams overall goal, couldn't have done this without you. As it was explained to me, this is one of the few charities that you don't have to worry about where the funds are going as it goes directly to the Children's Tumor Foundation and that in itself makes this particular event even more than worth it. Thanks to our Yelp NYC Crew, Drew, Sierra and Katey for being there. I was genuinely happy to see our Yelp table representing, as you always do. Thanks to all the Yelpers, friends and family that came out despite the extreme cold, very brave of you considering the weather conditions. This year it was clearly stated that you did not have to do the run, which a few people heeded. But that didn't stop some of the barely clad who did the shortened run by the Westside Highway, with car horns blaring, showing love or better yet wondering what the hell is going on with hundreds of people running in their unmentionables...that was a funny sight to see. Also, thanks to Brian N. who made me aware of this charity a few years ago and Alexandra K. who ran our cool team of Yelpers this year by keeping everyone informed and pretty much managing all things necessary for our teams success. Awesome afternoon dance party with underwear wearing fund raisers, what more could you ask for? Oh, I know, temperatures in February slightly above freezing.

It's located in Morristown, NJ and the entire half starts on Ginty Field, going along the trails and through beautiful residential streets, all the while affording lovely views. There are plenty of motivation coming from the bystanders giving out Gatorade and water along the course at every mile. There were plenty of giveaways and I was able to receive a PT stretch before my run and a professional K Tape application that I was still wearing days later that has done wonders for my IT Band issues. With this race, you have an option to either run the full half (13.1 miles) or split it between two runners where one does 5 miles first and the other does the final 8 mile leg. I was lucky enough to be blessed with an extra bib and did the 5 mile first part. There was no way I would have been able to do any more than that since I did the BK Half the day before and my legs were screaming by the time I reached the finish line. There's music, festivities, families and plenty of nourishment after you sweat it out and even an award ceremony for the top finishers. The medals everyone receives are cute and most runners are in costume the entire time, dressed as their favourite superheroes/villains. At the end, they also award the best costume and I believe this year was a gentleman that came as Doc Oc from Spiderman. I had a great time. It's about an hour drive from NYC and I would suggest going with a group, getting there early and enjoying the whole experience from start to finish.

The two loops begin in Ginty Field in Morristown, cut through some neighborhoods and take you through the paved trails of Loantanka Park. Although it was warm (hit the 80s) a good portion of the run was shaded providing some much needed relief from the sun. Even if you do not like the course, the people running near you dressed head to toe in costumes is enough amusement for the 13.1 miles. There is nothing like get passed by a grown man in a Kickass costume. Here are my suggestions: -Carry water. Water stops were every 2 miles or so with Gatorade available at every other stop. I froze half my water bottle the night before and topped it off with cold water in the morning. This was key to cooling me down and keeping me hydrated as I ran. I also took advantage of most of the water stops. -Dress up. If you have family coming to watch you (especially small kids) have them dress up too. This is something I didn't do, but wished I had. Next year I am definitely running in costume and making sure all my family and friends are dressed in costume as well. -Train on hills. This course was TOUGH and had a hill that didn't seem so bad when you are only 3-4 miles in, however coming back around for the second loop around mile 11 was hard. I would definitely recommend some hill training for this. If you live in the Morristown area it shouldn't be a problem to find some killer hills to run on. -Get there early. I got to the start about an hour before and was able to find street parking not even 2 blocks away. It was extremely convenient and stress free. As you can probably tell, I loved this race and can't wait to run it again next year.

Not my normal pace but exceptional, IMO, considering I did the BK half (my 1st ever half) the day before. Hurt.

It begins with that chilly Central Park feeling and then gradually opens into a brighter, faster day, with the city almost seeming to bloom around the race. I set a PR there, although I was unfortunately wearing my former colleague Adam's bib; oh well, I got the picture, the Strava record, and the memory, which is what matters. The course has a rare sense of momentum because it feels like actual travel, not just a loop, and the ending through the Battery Park Tunnel is epic, strange, and completely New York in the best possible way. But if you're looking for an amazing sightseeing run through some of New York's most iconic streets, this is the one. Everything leading up to the race was organized really well, from packet pickup to race-day logistics. It's absolutely worth applying for the lottery.
