It's located in Morristown, NJ and the entire half starts on Ginty Field, going along the trails and through beautiful residential streets, all the while affording lovely views. There are plenty of motivation coming from the bystanders giving out Gatorade and water along the course at every mile. There were plenty of giveaways and I was able to receive a PT stretch before my run and a professional K Tape application that I was still wearing days later that has done wonders for my IT Band issues. With this race, you have an option to either run the full half (13.1 miles) or split it between two runners where one does 5 miles first and the other does the final 8 mile leg. I was lucky enough to be blessed with an extra bib and did the 5 mile first part. There was no way I would have been able to do any more than that since I did the BK Half the day before and my legs were screaming by the time I reached the finish line. There's music, festivities, families and plenty of nourishment after you sweat it out and even an award ceremony for the top finishers. The medals everyone receives are cute and most runners are in costume the entire time, dressed as their favourite superheroes/villains. At the end, they also award the best costume and I believe this year was a gentleman that came as Doc Oc from Spiderman. I had a great time. It's about an hour drive from NYC and I would suggest going with a group, getting there early and enjoying the whole experience from start to finish.

My wife and I participated in the race this past weekend. I enjoyed it, but she had a bad…read moreexperience. She was power walking it at what I'd consider a brisk pace (15 minute miles). However, when I arrived at the finish line in 2:10, she was already there with her friend. They had reached a point where there were no volunteers, no signage, and even the police working the race didn't know where she was supposed to go. It wasn't just her, as she was with a friend and there were others in front and behind her who had the same experience. So she cut across the course and found her way to the finish line disappointed. When I emailed the company, I was not satisfied with the response.

Superhero Half Marathon - Not my normal pace but exceptional, IMO, considering I did the BK half (my 1st ever half) the day before. Hurt.

I'm not a runner…read more No. I'm one of those people who wear fancy workout clothes and get out of breath after a minute of "running". So why did I sign up for this? I wanted a fancy medal! Of course, the one year that I signed up for this, they decided NOT to give out medals and to give out tech T-shirts instead. I guess I'll wear my tech tshirt instead of a medal while training for my next race. It was pretty cool running past the unisphere, museum, fountain (which did not run this year -- what, are they getting cheap with water too?!). Mile 1. This is good. I'm gonna keep running. Yeah. I'm almost at mile 2. Mile 2. Okay I did a mile. I'm gonna slow down a bit. Yeah. Mile 3. Why did I sign up for this again? Oh right, the medal. Yes. I've done 5Ks before, I can do this. Mile 4. LALALALALALALALALALALA Mile 5. Wait. Am I done with mile 5 or did I just start it? Where am I? I'm so confused. HEY THEY'RE PLAYING MY JAM!!! (Backstreet boys) Mile 6. I'M DONE I'M DONE I'M DONE!!!! Where the heck is the finish line?!?!?!? Oh... 10K is 6.2 miles... WHY IS THIS 0.2 MILES SO LONG!!!!!! Finish line. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I'm not doing this again. ........Who am I kidding, I'll sign up again next year.

This is a good race in an under-appreciated NYC park. The 2013 race was a lot of fun and the…read moretemperature was even a little cooler this year. I even turned in my fastest competitive 10K time, ever. One of the downsides is the ever increasing overcrowding issue that plagues these runs. It's a little annoying to be bumped into by many people. Give me some space, man. Another issue (my take) is not having the first water station right after the 1 mile marker. I think this should be a must, especially during what is probably the hottest run of the year. But overall, I like this fast and mostly flat run. Glad I ran it today and did well.
