Team Family Fitness Mixed Martial Arts of Jersey City completing their 3rd City Challenge Obstacle Race. Location here: Hoboken

10 STARS!!! City Challenge Obstacle Race is a well-organized event. It is a lot of fun and I recommend everyone to give it a try. It is not an extremely difficult course but pushes you out of your comfort zone. The run and obstacles are spaced out well in the urban environment. The volunteers are very knowledgeable and helpful as well as great cheerleaders to cheer you on along the course. The race provides water, bananas, medal and t-shirt as well as other venues (sponsors) at the finish line. The free pre and post massages are great as you relax and get stretched out while listening to the DJ spins. I have completed my first race last year with my dojo and we had a blast. This year, 2014, we signed up for Jersey City and Hoboken races and had even a greater time! The views along the waterfront of the skyline were just beautiful, gave great energy to be alive. I was able to win two free entries from a contest and will be running the next City Challenge Race in NYC 2014 with my training partner. I will be able to get my first "Trifecta" of City Challenge Race (lol). So excited. The race also raises awareness for Susan G. Komen which is a great benefit. Along the race you get to meet great people and make new friends and develop positive energy. You receive help along the way if you are having difficulty with an obstacle and if you cannot do an obstacle, its fine. But you need to do 30 jump squats. Everyone is there for the same purpose- to have FUN. The pricing for the races are very reasonable and the organization keeps you informed via email of race information up until race day. You are never left in the dark with questions. If you have not tried this event or are thinking about it, just do it and sign up. Trust me you will not regret it.

I had a terrible experience with the race owner, Elvi Guzman. 2014's event was disorganized and started late.

It's fun to get your friends to rally around, and contribute to, your fund when it involves you in your underwear... in Feb. All monies raised support the Children's Tumor Foundation as they look to find a cure for NF. Not that other causes aren't great, but it's always heartwarming to know your contribution is going towards making a child's life better. As for the party, YES. Big venue at Stage 48 and it typically gets pretty full. There are three large bars, so no problem getting a drink (you need one when you first get there) and two floors to dance, post up, or take pics with friends. No one gets tooooo creepy (we did catch one dude taking butt pics and he tried to say he was an 'official photographer'... which he wasn't), so as long as you're comfy in your own skin, no one will bother you. When it's time for the actual run (that's what you're there for, remember?) EVERYONE along the race path will stop to high five and cheer you on. It's completely ridiculous, but so much fun at the same time. One of my favorite charity events of the year. Do it! Bonus: Find Phil H when you get there bc he has a flask... just don't ask where he hides it

There was a bar, merchandise you could buy, and some photo opps. Check in started at 11:30am but we didn't arrive until a little after 1:00pm. We checked our clothes, had a drink, and it was time for the race. The race started at 1:30pm. Everyone's energy was great! I loved all the different costumes. The race was about a mile and it was through the streets and over a bridge. After the race, there was a party with a DJ. Overall, I had so much fun.

I'm so glad I found this run because besides being a really cool route - running thru the Brooklyn battery tunnel (sorry, I'm old and still call it that) from red hook, Brooklyn - it also was the one of the most inspiring stories I had heard about 9/11. It commemorates the route from red hook to Manhattan an off duty firefighter took from the tunnel to the site of the towers, with all his gear on, after they'd closed the tunnel to traffic. Because of that it's a little longer than a 5k (I clocked 3.68 miles). Tons of firefighters and police run the race in uniform- it's an enormous race with 30000+ people, and there's also lots of regular people too running. As you come out of the tunnel, there's firefighters and military personnel holding up pictures of people who lost their lives and also cheering everyone on and high fiving you as you run by. It was kind of amazing and even though I didn't lose anyone on 9/11 its very emotional and makes you proud to be an American. They put on a huge street fair with a ton of food - burgers hot dogs ribs pizza donuts beer...and fruit too if you were trying to be healthy. A band I guess performed too. The line to take the wall st ferry to red hook was early (7:30 am cut off or so) and huge, even by 7 am when I was in line but it was an amazing race...i highly recommend!

On 9/11/01, Firefighter Siller was off duty when he responded to a radio alert that the WTC towers had been hit. Since he was not permitted to drive through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, he strapped his gear on and went to the WTC by foot. Unfortunately, he as well as the rest of his squad (Squad 1) all perished. Thus race is in honor the memory of all of those firefighters, police and EMS who perished on that day. This race was very well organized, well sponsored and was even televised on CBS. Gary Sinise as well as his band performed and former Mayor Giuliani started the race off. This was a very nice race and is for a good cause. Highly recommended.
