It's fun to get your friends to rally around, and contribute to, your fund when it involves you in your underwear... in Feb. All monies raised support the Children's Tumor Foundation as they look to find a cure for NF. Not that other causes aren't great, but it's always heartwarming to know your contribution is going towards making a child's life better. As for the party, YES. Big venue at Stage 48 and it typically gets pretty full. There are three large bars, so no problem getting a drink (you need one when you first get there) and two floors to dance, post up, or take pics with friends. No one gets tooooo creepy (we did catch one dude taking butt pics and he tried to say he was an 'official photographer'... which he wasn't), so as long as you're comfy in your own skin, no one will bother you. When it's time for the actual run (that's what you're there for, remember?) EVERYONE along the race path will stop to high five and cheer you on. It's completely ridiculous, but so much fun at the same time. One of my favorite charity events of the year. Do it! There was a bar, merchandise you could buy, and some photo opps. Check in started at 11:30am but we didn't arrive until a little after 1:00pm. We checked our clothes, had a drink, and it was time for the race. The race started at 1:30pm. Everyone's energy was great! I loved all the different costumes. The race was about a mile and it was through the streets and over a bridge. After the race, there was a party with a DJ. Overall, I had so much fun.

This is such a worthwhile event that raises funds for some well-deserving athletes in the Special Olympics. Let me tell you my dear friends this run is not as easy as it sounds. This is a unique 5K through a tunnel that I feel someone has to experience at least once in their lifetime. The last few kilometers really burns because of the incline going back to the New Jersey side. Nevertheless with a huge amount of people participating you always are motivated to keep on going. This event is more fun to run with friends especially if you want to compete with them. At the end of the day it is, as I said for a very good cause, so no matter how you look at it, it truly is a win for everyone involved!

My daughter is one of these incredible participants! She starts at 11:30 am in Staten Island and we are super psyched to watch her run!! We took crowded subways all over the city to watch her run. It was a crazy day and super fun! The weather was perfect and she ended up doing so well!! I'm extremely proud of her, she also raised a lot of money for her favorite charity.

What an honor and thrill it was! As described on the NYRR website - The TCS New York City Marathon Opening Ceremony Presented by United Airlines, a spectacular event that celebrates the diversity of the race, kicks off TCS New York City Marathon weekend! Following a pre-show at 4:45 p.m., the Parade of Nations begins at 5:30 p.m. and showcases runners from around the world as they parade across the finish line. Representatives from NYC Running Clubs and several U.S. organizations, as well as professional runners and wheelchair athletes, are part of the procession. The TCS New York City Marathon Fireworks Presented by Poland Spring lights up the night sky after the parade. The whole event was amazing, the energy was electric, elevating music, cheering crowds in the stands, and a terrific fireworks show on a beautiful NYC evening. If you're a runner I highly recommend attending especially if you're going to run the marathon. It was a very prideful moment for me carrying our flag and representing. If you ever have a chance to march in the parade don't pass it up, as it's a once in a lifetime experience for most.

NYRR races are always well organized, making this one no different from the others. Bib pick up at…read morethe NYRR annex is amazingly fast, you're in and out of there in like a few minutes no joke! This is a women's only race #womenruntheworld being the hashtag of the event and the girl power and support really gets you through the race! There are plenty of portapotties by the start/ corrals. Mile markers are clear, plenty of fluids on the route and awesome volunteers making the race a success. Now this is the first half marathon that I've run that involved two loops of the same route and man did it suck. Your first loop of Central Park is ok but the second time around man do the hills really make your legs burn and that mental game comes into play. All in all if you're looking for a hilly half marathon to really challenge yourself this is yours!

Which I promptly started training for. I was lucky enough to have a pool in my building in NYC. Not all have it. And ours was a real pool, some 25 meters. You could train in it. We did. We formed a team. Had a coach and everything. It was awesome. So event day came and we started the race in the Hudson, on a pier on the West side, swam down to another pier, nice fast current helped a lot, and jumped out onto the bikes. It was well organized and staged, so the transfer was easy. Once the bike part was done, a nice ride up the Westside Highway closed to traffic that day, the run was in Central Park. The race finished there too. With a huge party. It was awesome. Well organized event and tons of fun. Its not a cheap one, and as far as I know not for charity, so that's too bad. But well worth it, its that fun. I did it a few years, and would love to do it again. But then Id have to train a lot more...

One in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her life time. Control is an illusion. You can't control life. There are many women who get breast cancer who have no risk factors at all. Hmm maybe I'm pretty used to running NYRR races but I thought this race was somewhat disorganized…read moreand confusing. Actually, I wouldn't even call it a race because they don't even time you for the 5k. The confusing part was the start line for runners. I would say a lot of people had no idea there was a separate start line for runners so my friend and I ended up in the walker's area. I wish they told us that earlier or at least on their website. We ended up wriggling ourselves through the crowd of people and caught up at the tail of the runner's line up. Nonetheless, it was for a good cause. The biggest perk was probably the Expo where they handed out many somewhat useless freebies, but can't complain. The key is to get to the Expo early (at least an hour early) before the start of the run/walk so you can avoid the crowds during post-race. I happened to arrive there at 7:30am and it was not crowded at all.
