A friend of mine suggested I take a class & I wouldn't be disappointed. She was right, they did not disappoint. They have some great deals as well. I bought the $80 deal that consists of 20 Zumba classes or pay $7 per class. My first class was Thursday at 9:30am with Wilmer. Very energetic with great music. That's what I like to hear when I take Zumba. I want to sweat and dance and that's what I did on Thursday. I also went on Friday and danced with Wilbert. He too was energetic and fun. Can't wait to go back and hopefully my friends come with me next time :) *Update* Went during the evening to dance my butt off and I LOVE the fact that they turn off the lights and have disco lights and anything neon glows in the dark. Soooo awesome!!! Belky has amazing music.

It just feels good to see staff at the front greeting me in and showing me the ropes of the place. I have seen this location many times passing by but admittedly foregone it in favor of Blink Fitness years ago because that was close to my location. Wanting to switch to another gym brought the opportunity to come here and it is slightly friendlier compared to Puregym, at least not as cold or sterile. It is Spring Break now so of course the gym was pretty packed but for what it's worth I was fortunate not to come across people doing super sets on various machines or spending several minutes on one machine I wanted to try out. Even had short conversations with 2 gym goers. In this day and age, social connection is very valuable so it felt almost as good as getting a solid workout in. Granted the Red and Yellow theme seems a bit garish, almost as if this place was created and run by Hulk Hogan but it's a nice change of pace from the dull and monotonous theme of the previous gym I was in. The one perk the gym has that separates it from others is that Retro Fitness has it's own Smoothie bar and a varied selection of them. I chose the Mocha Mania to be my first one and it sure does fill you up. It makes for a fine replacement as opposed to going to a fast food joint after a workout. Retro Fitness is my new home and with the highest tier I signed up for, I'm ready to explore more.

Also I'm sick and tired of being harassed to re rack other people's weights . I would use the 120 lb dumb bell to bench press . However during the time I'm using it , members would rack their weights where the 120s go. I would put the 120s in the spot of the rack that's open like in any other gym. Alfred would bother me to constantly un rack the weights on the 120 spot that I never used and then re rack those weights in the right place even though I never used the weights. to It's not my job to RE RACK the weights they used . If the 120 lb dumb bell spot gets taken by another weight ...that's not my problem or responsibility . No gym I been to has ever harassed me to re rack other peoples weights , I only re rack the weights and equipment I use . BUT at this price point of $70 a month for adults in Flushing, it's still pretty good! It has the essentials in the weight room, with a nice variety of machines and weights. I rarely see broken or out of service equipment. The cardio room never gets overly packed, and they have a nice basketball court that I regularly see people using. The pool is decent but constantly packed so I stopped using it. I think it's just packed because corona park's pool closed Overall, it fits my needs and I don't need to spend as much as other gyms in the area.

They create an environment that fosters a love of learning and friendship. Like everything, beginnings can be hard but with 3-K teachers such as Ms. Marieta and Ms. Ruby, children embrace starting school everyday and anticipate the next. Ms. Miri and Ms. Elizabeth reinforce children's curiosity of learning and play in Pre-K through deeper exploration of the various subjects. Adding interactive play elements to engage children's sense of independence, focus and accomplishment. The Early Childhood Program at the YMCA is a hidden treasure in our community. This location has earned the dubious title of my least favorite Blink fitness spot. Before I put it into detail, I'll note a few positives of this place. It's a two floor spot with a lot of space and variation of machines and is pretty close to a bevy of restaurants in the area. However, despite all of the space in the location, it's already deemed irrelevant when the whole gym is packed from top to bottom. I've been to crowded gyms before and they weren't too bad but I'm not a fan of the atmosphere here at all. The place gets crowded as early as 10:30 AM, ON WEEKDAYS! Imagine how hellish it could be on the weekends and peak afternoon hours. Most of the people here speak Spanish and my Spanish is mediocre at best, which makes me feel like a foreigner in this place and some of the people here in the gym occupy certain machines and do supersets on them with the length of a short movie. Maybe that's an exaggeration, but I do recall one guy being on the chest press machine for almost 20 minutes and I found that absurd. The atmosphere here is very off putting and I'm a guy that is easily influenced by the vibes of certain places, which is why I value service over presentation when I review restaurants, and I'd rather work out in a barebones gym yet have fun with a small group of people than be in a state of the art gym and feel alienated. My trip here was not pleasant, there were machines I couldn't get to use today because they are always occupied. This is in no way a fault of Blink in any way because they can't do crowd control but I in good conscience can't recommend this gym to anyone considering the very short time frame you have to get a decent workout going before hordes of people pack the place. Fortunately I am a Green Card Member of Blink so I can go to any location in the city and there are several other better places than this location.

This should be a 2.5 star review but Yelp doesn't allow fractions. Let's get the cons out of the way: - During peak hours this place gets packed. Expect to be very flexible about what you work on. Benches booked? Look for something else. Popular weights (looking at you 25 lb dumbbells) will disappear for long stretches. You'll also do better if you don't mind being social and asking folks to work in with them. - Machines fall into disrepair here and are then left in unusable shape for sometime. They aren't labeled as broken either so you may find yourself climbing on a treadmill that looks like it works (the lights are on) before realizing you've been played with (it beeps when you press the keys but just won't start). - Folks are friendly here but terrible about picking up after themselves. The lady who runs this place complains sometimes but when she isn't there the staff at the front desk won't get off their ass and enforce the rules. Late in the day weights will be strewn all over the floor in large, dangerous piles. Note to manager: When you aren't there, the front desk staff watch soccer games, surf the internet and generally rest. - The locker rooms and shower (that is singular, not a typo) are dirty and depressing. I wouldn't take my shoes off here. Go home and shower there. - The music is fine, fairly generic dance and Latin mixes - but it's often way too loud. If you bring your own iPod you will still hear the gym music mixed in with your tunes. Generally the result is unsatisfying. Now there are some significant pros, but you have to understand what this place is for and what pleasures it has to offer: - Cheap. I just paid $199 to renew for the year. That's a lot of your money that Equinox didn't manage to steal. Invest your savings wisely. - While I would love to see more women here (it's about 80% male), it's a great crowd. Men of all sexualities working out and chatting. Multiethnic, though mostly Latino. You'll hear many languages here (some Mandarin, some Hindi, mostly Spanish). This is a place that feels of and by the neighborhood. Some inelegant reviewer objected to Spanish being spoken around her. Not sure what to say to that except: Welcome to New York City. (Also, to that same inelegant reviewer: everyone speaks English here, they just don't always choose to). - The Dominican lady who runs this place is welcoming and funny and irreverent. Get to know her. She'll make you laugh. - Folks come here to workout, sweat and then leave. If you're looking for a place to look pretty or preen you will be unhappy. - There is no AC in the summer. Yes, I am listing this in the pro column. If you have spent all your life in North American suburbs this might not be the gym for you. You may not realize that the human body can function without AC. But those of us from other places and with other biographies can adjust easily to a place that keeps the windows open and cranks up the fans. You have a body. It sweats. This is what being alive feels like.
