Maybe it's time to renovate the locker rooms again. - There's these 2 cool cross-skiing machines now. - There's a manually treadmill that no one uses. - They got these trash bin/wipes containers now. Who are the competition these days? There's a cheap small gym on Roosevelt that doesn't really turn on the AC, and a luxury gym on 38th Ave. So when it comes down to it, Bodhi is still thriving.

We both live in Flushing near Main St., so NYISC was a perfect place for us to travel to. The club inside was spacious and clean. Some of the staff greeted us as soon as we walked in and gave us a thorough and in-depth description of all the membership services and fees for ping pong games/coaching. The actual tables are professional-grade, and there are actually plenty of them spread throughout an enormous indoor facility. I liked the feel of the high ceilings while I played (or at least ATTEMPTED to play haha). Even though this place was popular on a weeknight around 7-8pm, the size of the facility didn't make me feel cramped. Checking out the rest of NYISC, I saw an indoor soccer field - which is a rare sight in a place such as Flushing. I don't play soccer, but I would recommend this space for soccer teams and friends looking to play a match or serious game. My boyfriend and I also wandered to the 'Pro Shop' in the sports club. They sold all different professional ping pong products from brands such as Butterfly (famous ping pong product manufacturer). We didn't purchase anything, but I did sign up for private lessons with one of the renowned & accomplished coaches. The pricing was for a set of 10 lessons and were more than affordable. The coaches were all world ranked, and have competed in Olympics, etc. Maybe one day I'll be able to at least keep up in a game with my boyfriend, lol. LAST THING: People here are very open and friendly. If you come on a weeknight like us or a weekend, there will always be staff to help you and fellow players/students to meet/interact with :) One person saw my extreme lack of ping-pong skills and kindly helped me out a bit the first time I came to NYISC -___- lols I will definitely be returning

The Flushing YMCA did a proper investigation into whether I really am a member up in Buffalo - which sucks - but they were very friendly about it. It's busy and spaces are cramped. Equipment is okay. The cardio room isn't that nice and there are only a couple of bikes. The entire facility is very old and cramped. While this is one of the less impressive and most crowded YMCAs I have ever used, I also liked it because it's right in the middle of one of the coolest and most amazing neighborhoods in the whole country. And for that neighborhood to have a YMCA is excellent. Parking definitely sucks, and I was so worried that I was going to get towed because of where I parked, but in the end it went okay and my car was still there. Another concern with this place was that they had a ton of signs all over the place saying that pickpockets are at work and lots of things are being stolen. That's not really what you want to read right before you're trying to focus on a workout. But nothing of mine was stolen so I was glad about that. Pickpockets are one thing, but what about when a bunch of people with measles are rioting outside their own workplace, behind the fences? That's pox-pickets. Or when Kirk's best friend goes on strike from the Enterprise? That's Spock-pickets.

The courts are very clean and there are some used shuttles available to be used. There's very little space at the back of the courts so it can be hard to defend a corner shot. It can get humid since there's no AC. They do a good job of warming the place during winter. However, it does smell like your grandparent's place in Asia ...what a throwback. The restrooms are pretty old and kind of dirty....it's what you'd expect from an old Chinese place. It's expensive to get to, but it's worth the long commute if you love the sport and enjoy being in Flushing to get some good eats that are only at least 2 blocks away! The furniture at the back is really old and disgusting..just use the wooden benches.

Plenty of parking available on the street, or you have the option of parking in their lot but there's limited spaces there. And underneath the highway, there's parking available there as well. Inside, once you scan in at the front desk, there's 3 rooms: cardio, free weights and multi-purpose machines. Down the center hall, there's 2 well maintained racquetball courts, and past that is a children's play room and the main gymnasium for basketball and ping pong, as well as, an indoor track. Their racquetball courts cost $7/hour, and the price includes a ball and racket. However, they don't accept cash strangely enough, only credit/debit and check. All 3 rooms are have pretty much the same dimensions..and I pretty much feel the same way about all of them: too small, during busy hours you feel really congested in there. A few of the machines in the multi-purpose room were out-of-order. Treadmills and elliptical machines are not well spaced out. Plus there's no air circulation of any kind making the air in the room really dense. Legit almost feels like a sauna in all 3 rooms. Locker rooms and rest rooms seem well maintained and are relatively clean. There's plenty of decent sized lockers available. Overall, an OKAY Rec Center that can definitely use some improvements!

They have a small seating area where you can wait and watch other shoot in the meantime. There's a jacket rack in the hallway and a bathroom available. The staff there was very sweet and welcoming, and our instructor, whose name I didn't catch (tall, long hair), was a great teacher in going through safety and the basics & giving pointers and answering questions! Our lesson just had around 4 people total to begin with, and then 2 joined later, which seemed decent (since you have to wait until the last person clears shooting before we all grab our arrows again). After you're finished, you have the option to take your target sheet with you if you'd like a small momento! It was such a fun experience for me personally and a great date night place. Would definitely do it again and recommend it, especially for anyone who wants to try out archery!

It just feels good to see staff at the front greeting me in and showing me the ropes of the place. I have seen this location many times passing by but admittedly foregone it in favor of Blink Fitness years ago because that was close to my location. Wanting to switch to another gym brought the opportunity to come here and it is slightly friendlier compared to Puregym, at least not as cold or sterile. It is Spring Break now so of course the gym was pretty packed but for what it's worth I was fortunate not to come across people doing super sets on various machines or spending several minutes on one machine I wanted to try out. Even had short conversations with 2 gym goers. In this day and age, social connection is very valuable so it felt almost as good as getting a solid workout in. Granted the Red and Yellow theme seems a bit garish, almost as if this place was created and run by Hulk Hogan but it's a nice change of pace from the dull and monotonous theme of the previous gym I was in. The one perk the gym has that separates it from others is that Retro Fitness has it's own Smoothie bar and a varied selection of them. I chose the Mocha Mania to be my first one and it sure does fill you up. It makes for a fine replacement as opposed to going to a fast food joint after a workout. Retro Fitness is my new home and with the highest tier I signed up for, I'm ready to explore more.

In my most recent purchase, I still have a significant number of unused sessions remaining. At the time of purchase, there was no clear written contract or clearly explained refund policy. After relocating out of state, I was no longer able to use the remaining sessions and requested a refund for the unused portion, which was declined. I was instead offered alternatives such as extending the validity period or transferring sessions to someone else, neither works for me. I'm disappointed by how this was handled. I also felt that the pricing does not fully align with the overall experience provided. I am sharing this for transparency for others considering prepaid fitness packages, especially if there is any possibility of relocation or schedule changes. Clear written policies on refunds and cancellations would help prevent misunderstandings in the future.

The back-left showerhead has been broken for more than a year and barely has any water pressure…read more The solution might be as simple as installing a new showerhead, which makes the long delay especially difficult to understand. The front-right shower is unreliable--it may have normal water pressure initially and then suddenly drop to little or no pressure. Its drain also sometimes backs up and smells. Burned-out bathroom lightbulbs go unreplaced, and there are routinely one to three StairMasters out of service. I submitted a maintenance ticket through the front desk, but the staff do not know when it will be addressed. They suggested writing a review to bring these longstanding issues to management's attention. The staff at this location are wonderful and helpful, and I want to be clear that these maintenance problems are outside their control. These issues have continued for far too long and need to be properly addressed.
