Such a huge b*tch to get to from Manhattan but it's one of the few (or only?) real badminton gyms in NYC. It's 10-minute walk from Main St. Station (7 train) but it goes through some warehouses. It's okay at night but I would walk out with friends so you're not alone. Walking there at day time is fine. The courts are very clean and there are some used shuttles available to be used. There's very little space at the back of the courts so it can be hard to defend a corner shot. It can get humid since there's no AC. They do a good job of warming the place during winter. However, it does smell like your grandparent's place in Asia ...what a throwback. The restrooms are pretty old and kind of dirty....it's what you'd expect from an old Chinese place. It's expensive to get to, but it's worth the long commute if you love the sport and enjoy being in Flushing to get some good eats that are only at least 2 blocks away! Even though this place is at the end of the earth in Queens, it is worth the trek. You get a good workout with the pro and they have water, racquet restringing and if you want to make a day of it, they are not far from some really good dim sum places in downtown Flushing. read more

I happened to come by this place because my friends were headed here and I just tagged along in my sandals and pretty outfit because I had nothing better to do but boy am I glad! (And definitely planning to return but just better prepared next time). This place is literally in the middle of no where, close to many autoshops or just closed and abandoned buildings. The parking outside is super hectic! Or maybe because I came on a weekend.. I found it to be quite hectic. There is "free" parking but honestly it's just street parking. Anyways, I came in with a group of 6 and the worker behind the register spoke mostly Chinese. He told us it would be $16/20 minutes per person or we could rent an entire court (suitable for 4 players) for $90/hour. Honestly, I thought this was kind of expensive but I was already here.. what could I do? The annual membership is $400, which I thought would be a good option but I honestly question how long you'd have to wait in the case of a full garage. If we paid $90/hour, we were able to play after waiting 10-15 minutes but if we chose the prior route, then we would be sharing half the court with strangers and playing in 20 minute intervals. So we just went with $90/hour. Note: Racket rentals are $4 an hour and shoes as well, you must be wearing sneakers!! While waiting, we played ping pong for free in the back. Watching the other players, some of them are really competitive and play very well. There is definitely a good mix of beginner badminton players and professional players. The floor is kind of dirty but honestly.. it's the floor, you're stepping on it anyways. There's chairs and benches in the back for you to relax. The ceilings are relatively low and I noticed my birdie would often hit the lights or ceiling. The rackets feel used and the birdie does not bounce as well on the net opposed to my friends' newer rackets. Overall, I had a really good time. The employees were very nice and even let us play for an extra couple of minutes. The place opens pretty late (closes at 12am). I definitely would renew the equipment and maybe the place a little more aesthetically pleasing.. but those things are secondary. read more

If you like playing badminton then gotta come here. There's no where else like this in flushing. Convenient to all public transportation;bus, train etc. even airplane too if you have to lol since LaGuardia is so close by. Owner and family are very friendly toward customers no matter old or new customers. They do restringing for rackets at reasonable prices. And it is done by Andy who is a pro and licensed stringer who always does amazing job. Stringing jobs usually take 1-3 days depending on capacity. They sell rackets, shirts, shuttles, bags, grips and even professional level badminton shoes. Shoes and rackets are available for rent for few bucks if you don't have neither of these items. I am an amateur badminton player and came on the recommendation of a friend because I couldn't find a Manhattan location for the weekends. From UES it took me almost an hour by public transit to arrive. As I walked to the club location, I noticed that past the main section of flushing, the area is filled with an assortment of industrial looking buildings (including an autos shop, ceramics warehouse, Chinese funeral home and a food distribution company!). I can understand if you think the ten minute walk from Main St station is shady, but the club is legit. If you're so inclined, grab a buddy with you. Inside, there are six matted courts, one ping pong table, and a vending machine with Gatorade and water in the back (water is $1 each), as well as guys and gals bathrooms (the ladies room have showers but I'm not sure if they are functional!). For those of you who care: The bathroom smelled better than most I've been to in NYC. The court fills up fast on weekends, I showed up on a Saturday and most of the space was already taken. The half court plays and doubles by far the most popular, and many folks there are very skilled players (even some high schoolers are already years trained). The matted courts absorbs a bit of shock which is great, but I would strongly suggest wearing shoes with a good grip. I fell because my shoes didn't deliver on that! It was good fun and I played for two hours. The club owner usually plays in the outermost court and is said to have won doubles world championship with the Chinese National Badminton Team in the 1980s. Hence the lessons offered at the club. There are renovations going on near the entrance so it was at times a little noisy, but that was fine by all of us. We just imagined that was very bad EDM. This review covers the basics and I hope to post an update soon! New York City--an the U.S. In general--needs more spaces like these where people can simply focus on the sport. read more

A hidden gem in Queens. Very friendly club but basic skills and etiquette will help. I have been coming for years, vibe and location are great. This place is unlike any badminton court with a free walk on culture. They have heat in the winter. It can get busy on the weekends. Owner loves his club players. It is open 365 days a year and most holidays. If you expecting "country club tennis" you will be disappointed but if you are looking for pure badminton, this is the best. read more

Products range from shuttlecocks, shoes, rackets, clothes, grips and much much more! Employees are very friendly. They also offer one on one private lessons. Good courts and lots of them - problem is the expense and the staff. 16 bucks a head for 20 minutes of time, and you're sharing a court with other people... So you can only play on half. We were unceremoniously removed from our court after 12 minutes by a rude young man who told us to leave because he needed the court for a lesson. Management offered no compensation except to suggest we "wait an hour to see if anything else opens up". Go at your own risk and expense. read more

This was my first experience at NYBC and it was absolutely fantastic. I was greeted by the owner who helped us with rackets and setting us op on the court. Once we got to the court the players were very friendly and the games were of solid competition. A great place to spend an afternoon. read more

I tell you why this place sucks: - dirty. Courts are super dusty. rarely cleaned (if ever). if you slide on the courts, expect to see blood from the debris. I'm a court diver. this sucks big time - the last line on both end of the court is about 8 inches away(if not less) from the wall. In other words, if someone serve you all the way back to the last line, you cannot hit the ball - low ceiling. - crazy expensive - dirty bathroom - torn furniture. There was a sofa that looks like someone drop it from the 30th floor, and landed on the spot it was at. it even looked like it was cut in half. don't take my word for it, just go there and witness it This is a warehouse, not a club! read more

Revised 9/12/2016 So after couple of month not coming here I went back and join the group and found that bathroom is little cleaner but still leaves lots to be desired. There is a new court and hearing there will soon be improvement on the floor mat. Yeah! It's long over due, those mat can cause injuries. So I up one star. Too bad the price is increasing, damn inflation. ------ Found this place long ago but never have the courage to go alone until some meetup event welcome player of all levels. Make the story short, had a good time, player of all levels, I am a beginner. Most players there are regulars there, any know each other by playing style. Note: although there are 6 courts and 1 ping-pong table during weekend (at least the times I have been there) first 2 court are used for private lessons. so that leaves 4 courts on 20min rotation. From my understanding, the 5 & 6 are mostly for people who play competitive game sets base on double-play. They pay mostly 2 out of 3, 21 point scoring. so when that's done the next team plays. For practice and warm-ups basic rule is 20 min then rotate, again you have half a court if your are playing with a buddies, so always 4 player occupying the court. There is a bathroom/washer you can use, but it's pretty much broken down so I never used it except to change to dry cloth after the game. The floor is pretty worn especially court 1 & 2 where there are some bump. People are generally nice, you can ask to join a game if you are in the same level as the players. Or if you want to play and learn with someone, offer to be their warm-up buddy. If you play weekly will be better to signup with discount membership, does not include equipment rental or birdie/shuttle, just court time which one admission for all-day play. Parking on the street are easy in the non-business hour. 10 minutes walking from Main Street 7-train station. Tips: If you are a beginner with badminton I recommend google/wiki rule of badminton, bring your own shuttle (the feather kind, not nylon) and rackets, water, (there are vending machine if you forgot your water), snacks (energy bar, if you plan to play many hours), towel (you gonna get those fat burning) and change of cloth. There are cloth hangers on each side of the courts. Oh, and if you need to walk in and out/between courts, make sure there is no active play when you walk behind the players. The light on the ceiling can be distracting, I often get blinded by them. If the owner fixed up the place I will give a 5 star. read more

This place has players with all levels. The staff are nice and they pair you with the ones at your level.
