It's 10-minute walk from Main St. Station (7 train) but it goes through some warehouses. It's okay at night but I would walk out with friends so you're not alone. Walking there at day time is fine. The courts are very clean and there are some used shuttles available to be used. There's very little space at the back of the courts so it can be hard to defend a corner shot. It can get humid since there's no AC. They do a good job of warming the place during winter. However, it does smell like your grandparent's place in Asia ...what a throwback. The restrooms are pretty old and kind of dirty....it's what you'd expect from an old Chinese place. It's expensive to get to, but it's worth the long commute if you love the sport and enjoy being in Flushing to get some good eats that are only at least 2 blocks away! The furniture at the back is really old and disgusting..just use the wooden benches.

This specific location is a little further out from the subway stations, and is more in the warehouse area, but was still fun to go! They provide coaching lessons in case you're a first timer, and generally provide racquets and shuttlecocks too. I came to play with my friends on a Sunday afternoon, and we had fun dusting off our badminton skills. When you first come in, theres a screen that tells you who reserved what court for what time that day. You can only get in if you reserve, it's not a public court. Then, you just go to your designated court and play! The concept is pretty simple. As far as I know, there is no limit to how many people you can bring with you, as long as they're not causing a ruckus. Amongst 4 people, we all paid around $20 to play for the hour. If you've been itching to play badminton, then this may be the spot!

I play badminton weekly at home and while traveling to NY, I saw that there are plenty of places to…read moreplay but many are at school gyms. I found Fitness Badminton online and liked the title so I contacted the person to get more information. The website had different information than other places with their listing, and I know the internet may not have the most current info when the business does not have their own facility. Ths price is still current at $10/person. This is also the only place that lists loaner rackets available, but unfortunately they now do rentals. However, I gave Kenneth a call to explain I am from out of town so I do not have anything with me and will be coming with a few friends to play, and he generously offered to loan my friends and me rackets for the night! (I contacted one other place and looked up 4 other places and no other facility seemed to have the same generosity or personal touch, which is why I decided to go here.) Fitness Badminton is located inside one of Midwood High School's gym. They used to be located at a different school's gym, which is where we ended up because we used Google Maps to get there. So, be sure to type in the address from the website or make sure Google Maps has the current address. Although the host is friendly and generous, the courts is what made this place lose a star. There are no badminton lines on the courts!! The lines are taped on using masking tape. It appears as though this is done each time the courts are used for badminton. There are only three nets, which are not for badminton either, so the birdies get stuck in them. Needless to say there are not poles for the nets so the court we played on had a wooden stick holding the net up the right height. The floor was quite slippery, so it wasn't easy to play competitive games without risking injury. The drinking fountain in the gym doesn't work, so be sure to bring your own bottled water. There are vending machines in the basement of the school if you forget though. Regulars bring their own water, new and used feather birdies, and rackets. I would come back here if I am not playing competitively or if I'm in in area though. :)

They create an environment that fosters a love of learning and friendship. Like everything, beginnings can be hard but with 3-K teachers such as Ms. Marieta and Ms. Ruby, children embrace starting school everyday and anticipate the next. Ms. Miri and Ms. Elizabeth reinforce children's curiosity of learning and play in Pre-K through deeper exploration of the various subjects. Adding interactive play elements to engage children's sense of independence, focus and accomplishment. The Early Childhood Program at the YMCA is a hidden treasure in our community. The Flushing YMCA did a proper investigation into whether I really am a member up in Buffalo - which sucks - but they were very friendly about it. It's busy and spaces are cramped. Equipment is okay. The cardio room isn't that nice and there are only a couple of bikes. The entire facility is very old and cramped. While this is one of the less impressive and most crowded YMCAs I have ever used, I also liked it because it's right in the middle of one of the coolest and most amazing neighborhoods in the whole country. And for that neighborhood to have a YMCA is excellent. Parking definitely sucks, and I was so worried that I was going to get towed because of where I parked, but in the end it went okay and my car was still there. Another concern with this place was that they had a ton of signs all over the place saying that pickpockets are at work and lots of things are being stolen. That's not really what you want to read right before you're trying to focus on a workout. But nothing of mine was stolen so I was glad about that. Pickpockets are one thing, but what about when a bunch of people with measles are rioting outside their own workplace, behind the fences? That's pox-pickets. Or when Kirk's best friend goes on strike from the Enterprise? That's Spock-pickets.

Now by living with what has become the new normal, it is commendable on how these businesses and public places continue to remain open and cater to the general public by following the safety standards. It is now all the more important that we as customers, support these heroes during these dark hours to mankind. My wife and I had been looking for some form of sport activity around Jersey city and that's how we ran into this Badminton club. They have an online registration form to be filled out for booking a court for full 2 hours with number of players. The more you take with you, the cheaper it will be per person. There's also a WhatsApp group that is pretty active with people asking or updating their availability to play for a certain time slot, calling out the play level - Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced. Finding this place was a bit tricky as the entrance is little unassuming and you need to fight out the street parking as they don't have a dedicated one. Luckily we didn't have to go through that as we took the last slot of the day - 9.30-11.30. They check the body temperature before letting you in and you can get to your desired court without a second of waiting. They have four active courts and the facility is part of a school that maintains it pretty well. We even watched a masked up gentleman spraying disinfectants once, along the sitting area. Masks are mandated except for the playing time and they currently don't have walk-ins to reduce the crowd during the pandemic. They provide feathered cocks for a $ if you don't bring your own and provide rackets as rentals for $3. We had a great time and we have certainly found our new go-to place to flex our muscles.

Membership - The membership for NY recreation centers applies to all locations in the state and some other locations are probably newer, cleaner, and include pools and such, but this is a relatively humble convenient location if you live nearby. The annual membership is $50 for adults and $25 for seniors, free for under 18. Membership includes all locations. Sign up in person, pay the fee (no cash accepted), take a photo, get your membership card. This center also functions as afterschool for the school it's located within. Fitness center - humble fitness room with some free weights, a few well-used treadmills and ellipticals, a few workable workout machines for legs and arms, and benches for weight training. Very minimal but nice when you come during the off hours (later towards closing). Classes - Walk-in or pre-register. 1) bootcamp with Alexia was intense! There's a series of gym exercises the instructor demonstrates and directs for the students such as lunges, varying difficulties of crunches, deadlifts, squats etc. Great for cardio and quite tough. She means business and is very encouraging. She plays upbeat Latin music during class. 2) yoga with Crystal - 6-7pm Wednesdays until June or July. Open and free to the public since it's a ShapeUp class. Sweet instructor who knows what she's doing and goes over basic yoga poses and flows. 3) plenty more classes like ab/core workouts, exercise with Latin music, open badminton/pickleball/ping pong etc. tl;dr humble, dusty, convenient recreation center catered to afterschool, adult fitness, open gymnasium for certain sports, small fitness center, changing rooms and lockers available.
