Really great group of people. A spotter at every obstacle. Water station, porter potty, wash down area. Bag to put your stuff in. Only thing missing is a private shower so you can change into your dry clothes after. Cousins is awesome.

The Survival 5k is an obstacle course mud run that is held at many locations across the country…read more It's basically the Tough Mudder-lite. The Survival Race at Cousin's Paintball in Manchester, NJ, while a fun experience, has a lot of kinks that need to be worked out. First of all, amble showers does not mean 8 barely dripping shower heads feed by 2 garden hoses. No exaggeration, the line to wash the mud off at the end of the race was an hour long and the water pressure from a water foundation would look like a fire hose compared to these so-called showers. Also, the mud at the end might as well have had shards of glass in it, as I and the three other friends I ran this race with had cut up knees and palms that were filled with pebbles and splinters. The course itself was designed decently, however, there were too many obstacles with bottle necks at the beginning that force you to stop and wait at least a minute to be cleared before you can resume the race. Hopefully the organizers can work out these problems. Otherwise it's not worth $60 to run this race.

What a fantastic inaugural event! Port Jefferson can really throw a party! You could not ask for…read moresuch perfect weather in a picturesque seaside town, plus the water was warm and with plenty of excited energy in the air. The festivities started with the introductions of the local officials, a monk to bless the fleet and the eye dotting ceremony to "awaken the dragon". Each team had their encampments along the shore with their tents, banners and brightly colored uniforms. From then on, the teams were on the water all day for some intense competition, paddling their butts off. The boats out on the water were a fair distance away and were hard to track, but each boat came back to a rousing round of cheers! The festival would not be complete without some great food from vendors serving some tasty Asian dishes. Potstickers, teriyaki chicken bowls & spicy pork skewers were some of the stolen bites I got from my wife. But I was racing, so I couldn't load up on food or I would've chummed the bay. Entertainment was provided all day by local dance & choral groups, and a lion dance demonstration by a martial arts troop. The highlight was Hsu-nami, a erhu band that rocked the stage! We didn't win a medal, but it was an exhausting and exhilarating day! Can't wait for next year.

Came from Nassau county and I would not come back again. Don't come here unless you live less than 20 mins away otherwise it's a waste of your time.

Hamptons Marathon & Half - Ready for Race Day!

Hamptons Marathon & Half

Had a really great time running this race this past weekend! Coming from running only larger NYRR…read moreraces in NYC, the Hamptons Marathon was a nice change of pace. The course itself is flat as can be, so if you're looking for a good pacing run this is your race. Watch out for the weather though, as most of the course isn't shaded you're at the mercy of the sun and she was a-blazin' this weekend. But, that also led to great views of some beautiful houses, ponds and beaches along the way. As a runner, weather is just something you deal with. Since the heat was on high, water stations are essential and it was really cute how many were manned by local families. There were kids of all ages handing out water and gatorade and everyone was super friendly and encouraging. High-fives to all of the volunteers, including the police and fire dept! Lets not forget they were out in the heat all day too. After the race there were plenty of water/bagels/bananas available and trainers ready to stretch out your legs, which refuse to move at that point. A few food food trucks were also around helping feed runners and their spectator friends at the finish line. Overall, a really nice course! Would love to make this a yearly run (until I retire from this torture). It's really just you vs yourself out there. Go get it. Protip: remember the 40% rule. When your mind tells you you're done, you're really only 40% done.

Thinking you're athletic at 35 is a helluva drug. Luckily, Event Power has a bunch of events set up…read moreto prove you're an animal or to humble your butt back to the couch. I signed up for the Huntington Triathlon as my first tri ever and I'm happy to say it was smooth sailing. All of the info is laid out well on their webpage and you get constant updates and info via email. Should you have more Q's, when you check-in for your packet there are plenty of people around to help and reassure you that you're the beast you think you are and that this is possible. On race day, everything is set up as noted. The transition area is clearly marked and it's easy to find placement for your bike and bags. There is a pre-race meeting which goes through the course for the day, so it's nearly impossible to head into the race blind. It was a super windy day, so the swim buoys were moved (thank the lord) to help aid us. Plenty of lifeguards in the water offering help if you needed it too, which was comforting. For the bike/run portion, the roads were clearly marked, there were volunteers pointing in the right direction and police closing some roads for riders. It was all pretty seamless actually. If you're signing up, watch out for the steep hills in the bike portion (for real) and there's one large hill in the run portion, but what goes up must come down, so it's not a killer course. Totally doable for a beginner. All-in-all, it was a great intro to tri racing and I look forward to signing up for more events with Event Power! Bonus: after the race there were sammies, bathrooms to change/shower, and even some brew samples from a local brewery. Nice!
