Patti Howard is an excellent choice in dog training. She IS the " canine resource " !! She comes to your home so she can get in and see the strengths and weaknesses and put together a plan that will work best for you and your dog. Soon, you and your dog are working like a team rather than constantly pulling at opposite ends not just the leash but everything else too!! Patti is very patient, warm, kind and sincere. She watches and listens to you AND your dog. I highly recommend Patti if you are having difficulty with you pooch(s). I am one of her clients and happy I am. Patti was recommended to me by my Veterinary clinic. I would say, if you have questions about Patti's work call Companion Vet.

Had posted a previous review but here is the update after talking to an attorney:…read more Disappointed by How We Were Treated We were long-time clients who genuinely tried to build a positive and respectful relationship with this business. We booked services well in advance, followed all procedures, and even purchased additional training services to show our support and trust. When we canceled a December trip more than a month in advance, we expected a full refund based on what we were told. That had been the case in previous contracts. Instead, we were told the deposit was non-refundable, and only 25% was returned. We were told that was final. Another 25% was refunded later, but only after we followed up again. There was no discussion or explanation. We made several respectful attempts to resolve the issue directly, but eventually our number was blocked, cutting off all communication. With communication being blocked off, we were left with no choice but to consult a lawyer to understand the situation. We've never been treated so poorly by a professional, and this situation has caused us and our family an incredible amount of stress, including one and possibly two hospitalizations. The lawyer said that what had happened was not technically legal, and definitely not ethical. In our opinion, the way French K9 runs her business is unethical, and we could NEVER recommend them to someone who is trying to do good by their pets. We're sharing this because we trusted this business and were extremely disappointed. We hope others ask clear questions, get all terms in writing, and proceed with caution.

But when we canceled a December trip with more than a month's notice -- as allowed by the contract -- things quickly turned. We felt backed into a corner and accepted 25% of our deposit back simply because we were told that was all we could get. There was no formal or signed agreement. We later received another 25%, but this was done WITHOUT DISCUSSION and only after we followed up again. We made multiple respectful attempts to communicate and discuss the issue, but those efforts were ignored and my number was eventually blocked. That response, combined with rigid and shifting policies, made the whole situation feel dismissive and unfair. It's really disappointing, especially given how much trust and goodwill we offered.

She trains in a way that best works for you and your dog. She doesn't push any specific tools for learning. She lets you choose what tools you want to use and helps you use them properly. She is patient. She listens. She is always willing to answer dog related questions (whether they are training related or not). She doesn't charge extra for sharing her advice and extensive experience regarding dogs. Tara genuinely cares about a dog's life and the quality. Several clients reached out to Tara after their dogs were critically ill and they weren't able to get seen at the Vets. Tara called all over Puget Sound to get the dogs checked in and get medical help. Tara knows dogs. She trains the owners as well. She helps dogs and owners succeed in getting their AKC certifications. I have personally seen shy dogs come out of their shells. I have seen nervous owners become so confident with themselves and their dogs. Many of these transformations happened within a few classes so it was amazing to watch it. At the facilities, she has strict rules about keeping your distance (before Covid, it was so that the dogs would be under owner control and not get into trouble. During this pandemic, she also has strict recommendations for keeping humans and dogs socially distant). During a recent Kennel cough outbreak in 3 counties, she thoroughly cleaned her facilities and grounds so as to not bring illness to any dog.

After dealing with other dog trainers in the area I wouldn't recommend this one by far. No positive reinforcement and only taught my dog what the prong collar was. Only negative reinforcement to a dog who was only fearful/ slightly aggressive. My most loving dog did better without a prong collar and lots of praise. Our Vet also didn't recommend this place. Run and go with someone who is more knowledgeable. So many red flags for this place and trust the negative reviews

He…read moreteaches owners to use negative reinforcement which is scientifically the LEAST effective training tactic out there. Both dogs are extremely reactive to new people entering the owners home, to the point of fear from guests, and needing to put them away and use straight up animal abuse tactics to "correct" them (taught by the trainer). One friend uses a prong coller (used to cause pain when dogs pull on the leash) in the home to correct them when barking at visitors by pulling up (HARD) on it to cause pain. Another owner was told to CHOKE their dog when aggressive behavior was shown. This dog bit my husband and put him in the hospital, and if this person wasn't a friend we would have wanted the dog to be put down as this dog is EXTREMELY aggressive, and this training hasn't even kind of helped. Unless you want your dog to react and act aggressively to anyone but you, take them to someone who teaches positive reinforcement, which is good for bonding and creating positive interaction, even in situations that cause stress on the dog, you can create a positive experience and make them less aggressive with a different trainer. This guy clearly isn't it, based on the dogs I've met that he has "trained" (one was even trained since she was a puppy, the other started training after aggressive behavior had already started)

I was a long-time customer of Friendly Grove and trusted them with my dogs for years…read more Unfortunately, that trust was broken after a grooming appointment where one of my doodles came back unable to walk. My husband had to physically carry him out of the vehicle. When I contacted the business, I spoke with Maddy at the front desk, who reassured me that my dog had not sustained an injury while in their care. However, I was not present and was never shown any video footage or documentation to support that claim, which left me with serious concerns about what actually happened. Months later, I received a brief email asking me to update my information in their portal. I responded honestly and shared how unsettled I still felt about the previous incident. Shortly after, a staff member called and said they would be happy to schedule grooming appointments for my dogs since they hadn't been in for a while. However, when I arrived to pick them up, I was told that my dogs were not actually scheduled for grooming but that they "accommodated them anyway." I was then informed that Friendly Grove would no longer be grooming dogs at all. The entire interaction felt incredibly confusing and dismissive, and it came across as though they were simply trying to push us out as customers. They offered a $120 credit for that service and essentially told us to find another groomer. My dogs had been going there for years, and $120 doesn't even cover the cost of a single grooming service. After years of loyalty, the lack of transparency, accountability, and communication was extremely disappointing. I expected far better treatment from a place we trusted with our pets for so long.
