I brought my bitch in heat and my intact male in to be groomed. I told the groomer that she was in heat and that they were to be separated. When I came to pick them up she asked me if I wanted her to bring them to the front. I said yes, but to bring them one at a time since my bitch was in heat. Next thing I see is she is coming out with both dogs. I grabbed one of the dogs and said "No. She is in heat." The groomer responded with "I did not know that". It's one thing to make a mistake but another to lie about it. Additionally, I wrote a letter describing this situation to the owner, Vicki. The manager replied with an email. To it she attached video footage of the event. In this email she attempted to explain why the groomer came out with both dogs together. I had several people read this email to see if they could understand the explanation it. They could not. In this email the manager also tried to rephrase the groomer's statement as"'I didn't know you didn't want me to walk them together because we had just talked about that in the grooming office." It's a good thing they had the video footage because it clearly shows the groomer saying "I did not know that" in response to me saying "No. she is in heat" when she brought them out together. Again I had several people read the email. They couldn't understand it either. The email did not contain one word of apology, which would have gone a long way. I just got an email saying that they had cancelled my future boarding appointments...petty. read more

It saddens me to give this place a 1 star. We boarded here twice. Once this past summer and a 5 day stay over Thanksgiving week. Both times, my two furry kids came home with Kennel cough. The first time, both ended up at the vet, and that was almost $500. This last time was another $220 for the vet because only one ended up (so far) with Kennel cough. She was my 7 year old and is on antibiotics and a cough suppressant. My younger boy has been fine so far, but we are still in the incubation period. This really stinks. This is really a very nice-looking facility and even looks very clean and has a lot to offer. However, looks are deceiving. It's not not worth it if every time you board, the furry kids will need a vet appointment. I've always had dogs. And have always boarded the for one thing or another. I have used boarding facilities for the last 30 years, and this is the first time my dogs have ever gotten sick. Two visits and 2 times with sick pets. So beware. This place has issues! read more

We've been using Northwind for the past 5 years! We did shop for a pet boarding place years ago initially and found Northwind. Clearly and consistently, Northwind has been a top notch winner in pet boarding for as long as 14 consecutive days for our Bichon mix puppies Bentley and Bobbi. We can tell that the staff there are welcoming and love our puppies. They are happy and excited to meet us upon pick up. Northwind folks have always given us honest feedback in the puppies' diet, interaction with other dogs, and general demeanor. Out of the many times we boarded the puppies, only twice, Bentley and Bobbi took turns coming home not feeling well most likely 'cuz they were boarded on the left side. That was easily handled with one or two days of Proviable supplements 2x a day. Northwind would provide that for you if you let them know ahead of time, but we didn't know at the time until today. In general the staff know and love our puppies, and our puppies love to go and stay at Northwind. Northwind is kind of like a Pet Marriott Resort. You can stay at Marriott and sometimes not feel well afterwards too. Please note that we prefer the kennel on the right side behind the office counter. We are simply grateful!! read more

So let me start by saying their boarding is great. Now grooming: the first couple times I brought my maltipoo here he looked perfect, and every staff member I've interacted with has been nice. The last couple times I've taken him to be groomed I told them what kind of cut I want and they just completely ignored it. This most recent time I could tell the lady wasn't listening at all. I specifically told them to NOT shave his ears and to just give them a light trim. Yet the past 2 times I've gotten him back with shaved/extremely short ears. It's upsetting to pay for something that you didn't ask for. It's not really about the ears it's more about them not listening to what I was requesting that bugs me. After this second time of them not listening I'm considering finding a new groomer which is a shame because I loved the previous grooms, and I would love the recent grooms too if they got the ears right! I still give 4 stars because they do a nice job on the grooming (when they listen) and I got no issues with the boarding and will continue using that. read more

Our go to place to leave our YorkshireTerrier and Bichon Frise fur family. They get to play with dogs of same size and we bring their food from home. They cater to our dog's eating schedule, grooming when they stayed there, and allowed to stay together in their designated kennel when we leave them for out of town trips. The staff are courteous and professional. The pet care center also gives military discount. We saw horses and cats on their property too. It is a convenient drive from Lacey, about 15 minutes when you exit from I-5 Marvin Rd towards Yelm/Nisqually. Glad we found this pet care center when we moved to WA. read more

Been bringing dogs here for over 10 years, between years spent living out of state. By far, they are the most professional of any boarding/daycare outfit we've ever used. The grounds, kennels, fenced areas are impeccably clean and organized. My favorite feature is the ability to drop kiddos off early morning with your own access code to kennel area then pick them up same way before 8pm. I love this pet care center. All the employees are very helpful when I drop my German Shorthaired Pointer off at daycare. It always looks/smells very clean when I come in after hours to pick her up. They are very good at letting you know if something happens while your pet is there. I picked Lily up one day, and the gal said, "she got in a little scuffle today, but both dogs were fine. (They are dogs, things like that are going to happen from time to time). I appreciated the fact that she said something. She didn't have to do that. I guess I am kinda like a mom with a kid at daycare, and like to know things like this. Also, I would like to send a special shout out to Michelle. She is the one who got me all set to bring Lily to daycare, and was more then willing to answer any questions I had about the facility. She also reached out to me today because she noticed a cut on my dogs paw pad. (She had only been there about 20 minutes before I got the call, so I highly doubt she did it while she was there. It is probably something that happened while she was running wild on our property like she does everyday). But she called just to let me know that they had found it, and it didn't seem to be bothering Lily at all. She made sure it was cleaned, and then sent Lily on her way to go play for the day. I cannot rave enough about the Northwind Pet Center!!! I had to attend a conference in Seattle a few weekends ago and unfortunately did not have any close friends in town to watch my dog, Pepper. After doing much research about local pet boarding I settled on Northwest Pet Care because of another Yelp review I had read. The morning of the boarding I was a complete mess (typical dog mom crying to leave her only child behind for a few days). But I was instantly comforted by the beauty of the pet center and horse farm. Pepper was also very intrigued by the horses early in the morning. The team inside was extremely friendly and accommodating - allowing me to walk back and see peppers room and walk her in (something I never had the privilege of doing at other boarding facilities). One of the things i loved about this facility was the option to go on a nature walk around the grounds. Hikes/walks are some of peppers favorite things, so additional walks was one of the splurges I made on Pepper for the weekend When I can back at the end of the weekend the team had left the sweetest note talking about Pepper's weekend and daily walks, including details that I knew could only be in reference to pepper. I was also pleased by the cost of the entire stay. Now I would spend hundreds to keep Pepper safe and happy - but Northwind Pet Center was extremely affordable including all their add-ons. I will definitely be returning to the facility for any future Pepper-sitting needs. read more

After speaking with the manager and getting nowhere, I asked to speak to the owner, Vicki Toft. This is where it went from bad to worse. She refused to acknowledge the incident that caused my pet to have to go to the vet. Then she got in my face and started yelling that I had no right to ask for anything from them. The breaking point was when she revealed she used to be a police officer and there was nothing she could she couldn't get away with saying to get me in trouble. She threatened to have me arrested for trespassing & she threatened that if I left a negative review she would sue me for slander. If Cruella Deville was a real person, this would be her. There are many more people who have had negative dealings with the owner but are too intimidated to say anything. I am not one of those people. I am simply disgusted and appalled by her behavior. read more

I hate to leave a 2-star review for an otherwise great facility, but I have to in this case because of a poor policy that put a completely unnecessary damper on our trip to Hawaii. Our return flight carrying 9 close family and friends came in late on Saturday evening prompting us to stay in a hotel near the airport. We planned a last breakfast together on Sunday and realized the pickup time for the dogs was 12pm. We figured we'd just call ahead and arrange for a 1pm pickup even if we had to shell out a few extra bucks for their trouble. We were disappointed to learn the absolute latest we could pickup the dogs was 12:15pm without a full night's extra charge. No leeway. No proration. Nothing. Get there at 12:16 and we'd be spending another $40+. (Our dogs are boarded together so the rate for two is about $40). Not wanting to spend another $40+ just to have a few extra minutes with my family I had to leave my meal unfinished without saying goodbye to most of my family after an otherwise awesome vacation just to get there by 12:15. I made it with 2 minutes to spare. When I asked about the reason for the policy the answer was basically "it's always been this way" and some other places will only allow you to pickup dogs during a small window as if comparing this policy to a competitor's even worse policy would somehow make this all ok. If there were a legitimate cost driver justifying a full night's charge for arriving an hour late, I wouldn't complain, but there isn't and it left me unsatisfied with this experience. We've boarded our dogs here many times but this will likely be our last until this policy changes. Otherwise, the facility is great (albeit comparably pricey) and the staff are usually very friendly. read more

This is the third awful grooming experience I have had with Northwind - I loved the idea that I can have our two shih tzu/terrier mix dogs groomed before picking them up after a week of boarding. After the past two bad haircuts with the main groomer I tried their new groomer in hopes she could do an even cut with a teddy bear face. I even spoke with her via phone while on vacation in hopes she would not just shave their heads but that's what happened even after she promised me over the phone my dogs would look great. Making my dog look great did not happen. I credit Northwind for reducing the cost to what the groomer changed for grooming without a cut but I wanted a good cut not bathing! I give them a bath at home for no cost and would not have paid for that. read more

I am saddened to have to write this, but I was very disappointed by the groomer at Northwind recently. Saddened, because we have taken our dogs to NW for over 10 years. Mostly for nail trims and once in a while for boarding. Are dogs are very healthy, we live very close, their hours were convenient and the counter staff was friendly. However, our new adopted forever-friend is a 50 found Vizsla and he lives in our new house with hardwood Maple floors. Since he is mostly an inside dog, his nails don't get worn down like our other dogs. Therefore, we have had to take him in about every 2-4 weeks for a dremel treatment at about $11/visit. ($200/yr) Our last visit was just over 2 weeks ago, (it didn't seem that long ago) but his nails didn't appear to get the usual treatment and he wasn't in the backroom very long. Even when we got him home, you could still hear the clicking on the wood floor. (Which are now scratched badly) Well, we got busy, had to make a run to Portland for a few days and neglected to call for a redo. Long story short, he got excited when I came home yesterday and could have easily broken a hip or foreleg when he came up to greet me. He had no traction. If you've seen Bambi on ice, you know what I mean. That reminded me to call and ask for some sort of consideration. The receptionist said she would ask the groomer and get back to me. I mentioned that a mobile groomer lives just down the road from us, but that I wanted to support the company that had given us good service (to date). The call I got back was not good.....they felt that it was too long (17 days) since last done and they would not offer to do it over at no cost. Okay, I own a small, local business. And I know how hard it is to acquire new clients. It's a general rule that "retaining" a customer should be easier. Wouldn't it make sense to offer (1 time) to redo the nails, a 5 minute job and retain a happy customer, then to end up getting a review like this for the entire Internet to see? I am still open to an offer to mitigate, but if you see no response from NW, then I will take my business and my referrals elsewhere. Signed, Saddened in the Valley read more

Our two dogs stayed with Northwind for three weeks while we were in Hawaii. We knew the rates up front and we booked their stay a month ahead of time. When we returned from our trip, the dogs were very happy to see us and we were extremely satisfied with how they were treated. We even had a pleasant surprise discount (probably for having such a long stay?). We were very worried after a bad experience with a different boarder in the Lacey area and we weren't sure whether all boarding would be the same experience. After our wonderful experience with Northwind, I feel we can trust them for many more stays. Some advice for when you are planning your trip: Study the kennels that you are thinking of using. If there are strange medical policies, then you may want to look elsewhere. Review the drop-off and pick-up policies and business hours so that you know what to expect financially. Take a tour of the facility ahead of time. Plan your trip ahead of time and take action ahead of time. read more

Prior reviews say it all. I really can't say more. I trust the staff with my energy filled lab mix. My dog developed separation anxiety. I was so scared that he was going to hurt himself with his anxious behaviors. Our vet recommended dog daycare a couple of days a week as part of the behavior modification. The daycare is great, they offer an early drop off option and a late pick up. They go the extra mile to take care of your pet and provide excellent customer service and as others say they are CLEAN! I would recommend this as a great option to military families who live in the Lacey area. I often see many military families dropping their pets off early inn the morning. My pup always comes home and goes strait to bed after a full day of fun. We also have many friends that use their boarding services and love them. read more

We recently boarded our two small dogs for five days and they came back with a little bit more manners (haha), but they are so pooped because they got so much play time! We have two more reservations booked with them in the future and I cannot wait to use them again. I cannot say enough positive about Northwind. We have used both the daycare and the boarding for our Great Dane, Badge, weekly. Everyday when we grab keys, he gets excited thinking he is going to get to go even when it isn't his day for daycare. From the moment we drop him off to a kennel with a dog treat left in it to the loving hand off when I pick him up, I know he is being treated like one of their own. He comes home happy and exhausted from playing with all his furry friends. I love Northwind! read more

This morning I dropped my dogs off to be groomed. I spoke with the manager, who also cut my dogs, and expressed I did not want my Aussie's topcoat shaved because she was a dual-coated dog and she shouldn't be shaved (which the manager of a grooming facility should already know.) Upon pickup, I discovered that my dual-coated Aussie's topcoat was entirely gone and she was shaved. I took her to the vet straight from the groomer to express my concerns about sunburn and temperature regulation. I then called to speak to the manager again, the one who cut the dog's hair and she told me that she the dog wasn't shaved and this was "what I asked for". I then shared my vet and my own concerns and she responded saying "it will grow back" and "what do you want me to do about it?" Needless today I am very upset and will not be returning to the facility. read more

sooooo i had to board my 2 Goldens for the first time ever. My groomers were full up and recommended Northwind. I stopped unannounced to check the place, and the front desk said "absolutely" and took me for a tour of the complete facility. I found it to be very clean, and well staffed. Smells clean. Looks good. If you have a horse? Holy cow fancy. Their pricing can be a little weird...broken down into detailed add-ons and stuff...like '10 minute cuddle sessions' that were extra. Say what? You need to pay extra to cuddle a Golden?? HAHAHA! I made reservations and they were very nice to the nervous Nellie I was being. My 2 dogs were able to stay in the same kennel and the 2nd dog costs less that way. If you want them to email you pics of your dogs it ...costs extra. Not cheap. I paid extra for more play sessions, but all my dogs wanted was attention. My dogs were happy and they are excited when we return (to buy dog bones). The grooming was good...grinding the nails instead of clipping them...costs extra. *rolls eyes* Yes I will board here again. I sure do wish that they would change their price options tho. read more

This is an excellent place to board your pets. My three Jack Russell Terriers have been here several times and are always treated well and come home relaxed and happy. The staff is exceptionally helpful and very knowledgeable about the dogs under their care. They watch out for them and share any concerns they may have.
