Very poor communication, no one ever answer's the phone , almost impossible to talk to someone, almost missed my plane because of it . They say they eed the dogs at 7 , when i picked up my dog they told me he already had dinner and i was there at 3 ? I was told i could drop him off at 7 and no one was there so idk how they feed the dogs at 7 , it probably more like 8am and 2pm feeding schedule idk olay whatever, so they go to get my dog so we could go home and he is soaking wet , yeah it was raining i get it but did he have somewhere to get out the rain , I've known my dog for 9 years and he wont go off the porch if its raining lol so there is that , and with the daily reports they say he was friendly and wanted loves and cuddles and petting lmao . For 9 years he dont ever want cuddles or pets , hes a fetch driven dog 24hr a day i highly doubt, he wanna love and cuddles and pets. I have boarded my two dogs prior to their 5 night stay in November 2024. The stays have been fine, but two days after I picked them up on 11-5-2024 they both started coughing. It was horrendous coughing and coughing up phleg. I had to take them both to an emergency vet clinic because my regular vet had no openings. Yes, they had Kennel cough and they needed two prescriptions each. This vet visit was more than the dogs visit at the kennel. I called the kennel and reported my dogs were sick, and in a voice that didn't sound to sorry, told me we're sorry and no other dogs have been sick. My dogs are in a fenced acre yard and were near no other dogs. This kennel has lost my business. read more

Patti and her staff are beyond amazing! We took our 4 dogs to her and she gave them a beautiful makeover! They are normally very shy with new people but they took to her and her staff very well and you could tell when we picked them up they were happy and well treated! I highly recommend them! We've taken our dog for half-day doggy daycare in order for her to become familiar with the kennel prior to boarding her for 5 days. Met Zoey who is very friendly and nice, signed some papers, everything was fine. Then we met Lucinda - this changes the entire experience. Lucinda was very rude to my husband when he picked up our dog and she told him that she believes our dog (an Australian Kelpie/Border Collie mix) had Heeler in her, because she said, as much as she loves Heelers, "they're Satan's helper." Okay, our dog isn't a Heeler, and maybe a comment like this coming from a personable, upbeat person would seem okay, but it was spoken by a hostile, rude woman. I called the next day to ask this person for her name, which she obviously resisted disclosing - I had to ask 3 times for her name before she finally stated "Lucinda!" And then she asked in a very angry tone "How can I help you?" I told her that I was inquiring about the problem she had with our dog the day before, ie, the reason she referred to "Satan's Helper" (our dog is a very energetic, sweet, friendly dog), and she said "I explained again and again to your husband" that there wasn't a problem. Excuse me? My husband didn't ask, which is the reason I called to find out, and he's far from stupid, so he doesn't need people to explain things "again and again." I called the next day and asked Zoey if I could speak with the manager in order to report Lucinda's rudeness and hostility, and Zoey told me she would inform Jackie. We boarded our dog, and then I received a text that they do not have the signed paperwork which would allow our dog to go out and play, and she would therefore stay in her kennel except for potty breaks. They also said they had the wrong phone number, and texted me - on my correct phone number - a wrong number that they had - except they had the correct number to text the message. Also they had the directions with her food for feeding her, times, food amounts, with our names, and guess what - phone numbers and emails. I kept calling from the airport as well as from the hotel - no-one answered emails, phone calls, texts - until I finally stated that I was afraid Lucinda was blocking me from talking to Jackie and I needed to speak with Jackie personally. Finally Jackie called me, and somehow - conveniently perhaps - they didn't have my signed paperwork, and would not allow our dog to play unless they had it. I told Jackie that my dog is a very active dog and if you don't allow her to go out, you'll break her. Jackie said - and I quote - "Yes." WTF? She went on at length about liability and I kept trying to get a word in edgewise that I'm willing to sign whatever they need. Jackie stated Lucinda told her she didn't have the correct phone number, which was clearly untrue. I finally got the form through a text, but they apparently didn't let our dog out to play for 2 days. When we picked up our dog, Lucinda just stared at us, hostile, rude - my god. If you love your pet, stay away from these people! Your pet can't talk, I wouldn't trust Lucinda around any of the pets. Zoey, however, was great, and Lauren is also very nice, but Lucinda is apparently the primary manager. read more

Took my dog there for a few days and upon picking her up she was very sick and caught kennel cough. The staff said it is a risk I take and compared it to children going to school and getting sick. They offered absolutely no remorse or even an apology. Add a vet bill to the price I paid to board there. Definitely not ever going back. read more

We used to drive 30 minutes to board our dog here. Now we moved and have to drive a little over an hour to board our dog. Our lab mix loves it so much. She gets so excited when we pull in, pulls us to the door and doesn't even turn around to say goodbye when the lead her out into the dog area. I have no hesitations at all leaving her here since I know she is so happy to be there. The staff is super friendly and you can tell that they love dogs. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. We do not have her do play time with the other dogs, but she is in her own fenced area and runs around all day. Do note their hours before you go to drop of, or pick up your dog. They are closed for an hour for lunch. I remembered this the hard way by forgetting once and having to sit out in the hot sun for 50 minutes until they opened again! read more

My husband and I just moved here from the SW where our 1 year old GSD was very used to going to doggy daycare at least once a week. We'd literally only been here three days before we realized we needed to find him a daycare so we could do furniture shopping. McKenna Kennels was the first placed I called as it was the closest to our house and had the best ratings in the area. They were nice enough to take our dog on super short notice and very friendly. While I couldn't see a lot of the facility since the office is in the front, what I did see set me at ease that it was a quality place. Our dog is our child, and they were very understanding when I explained his wild tendencies and magically going deaf to commands when others dogs are around. When we picked him up later in the day it was evident that he loved the place and had a great time all day. They also must have doggy pools, because he came home wet and happy; his favorite. We'll definitely use McKenna Kennels again, and would consider them our first choice when we need to board him as well. read more

We take our Saint Bernard here every time we travel. She loves it and is always happy to stay. The kennels are always clean, the check-in and pickup processes are quick and easy, and our dog is always happy to see the kennel staff. We really feel like McKenna Kennels treats our pet like they would their own, and that makes it very easy to leave her there when we need to. read more

I took my dog for a three day stay. I was impressed with how clean and nice the staff were. When I picked my dog up they told me they couldn't let her out because she growled at them. They could have tried another person or just opened the cage and let her out. The business is money driven not dog friendly. I should have known when no one besides employees can go in the back except on a prearranged tour. They have acres of chain link fenced land but no dogs were out even the regular daycare dogs. Being new to the area, we saw positive reviews for McKenna Kennels and chose to board our dogs for 3 days. We dropped our dogs off for boarding on Friday and were surprised this AM when we got home to them being completely infested with fleas. We regularly treat our dogs with flea prevention medication, follow our vet's advice for prevention and have never had an issue. In fact, they were very recently treated. When we called McKenna Kennels to inform them of the fleas, my husband and I were told that we should get some better flea medication. It seemed there was a lack of care for the situation by the staff member he talked to. This was a surprise because most of our encounters with staff members were positive. The dogs did seem to be brushed and smelled of baby powder when we picked them up which was nice. We just hope these items (brushes) aren't passed on from dog-to-dog creating a worse flea problem and there aren't too many other owners with the same issue. read more

Wow! Just wow! My boyfriend and I were flying home for a wedding and needed to board our GSD. I Googled and scoured Yelp for kennel options, as we are fairly new to the area and haven't had a chance to really know who's reputation was what. Living in Yelm, the closest kennel was McKenna Kennels, they had great reviews on both Google and Yelp. So I called to see if they would have room for our GSD and they were able to have him join their crew at the kennel. Upon picking him up, he had made long lasting friends while staying there and the quality of their love and care is beyond exceptional! Now each time we go to have him groomed with Patti (Vakre Grooming at the same location) he is completely ecstatic to see the staff and love on his new human crew there.
