At roughly 69,000 miles on my 2019 Tiguan and again at 79,000 I was told that I had a water pump/thermostat leak which was roughly $2000 to repair at each of those times. I'm at 88,000 miles now and they just informed me that there was a service recall on my vehicle where it would have been free or cheaper to replace the part - but that ends at 80,000 miles so they couldn't do it. They failed to tell me that when I was below 80,000 miles. I have documentation and quotes of this, and have purchased coolant in the time preceding the 80,000 miles as well. I have reached out to Volkswagen care, the GM Adam Strong and am attempting mediation for what I feel is a strong case that shows I should have this post repaired under warranty. They only want to sell you a car when it is on their time. They really dropped the ball with us. They have been very pushy to sell us a car. We live 4 hours away and they want us to drop everything and drive up there. The sales person said he would get back with in a few days, that was a week ago and I have texted them and got no reply back. That is not good service. They came to me about our trade, I did not ask them. Now we are ready to maybe drive up north, now I hear crickets. No reply back to us. I am done with them. Do not buy a car from them at all. You just lost my business, I know you could care less about one customer. Besides the other model we bought we had no choice as we were traveling and the car needed a part and we could not wait a week for it. So we had to buy another car so we could get home. Called to book an appointment for a new battery. The person on the phone told me I would get a Volkswagen battery and they are out of stock. They will order it and it will be here in a few days. We scheduled an appointment for Thursday because the parts would be in. I was told the battery price after giving them my old battery would be $304.56 and the cost for labor will be $50 because it'll only take 15 minutes to install. I will be in and out in less then an hour. When I showed up for my appointment they told me labor will be $119.99. With a dead car battery not much you can do other then just pay it because they won't jump me to leave. After 30 minutes of being here they come to tell me they don't have a Volkswagen battery in stock but they can go to ORileys and buy the battery they sell that they recommend and install it for me. Absolutely insane. I could have done that myself. The reason I didn't install the battery myself is because they specifically recommended and said I should have a Volkswagen battery and it needs to be programmed by them. To pay $50 for the install was a fair rate to pay. Not only did labor price more then double, but the time of service did the same and they expect me to pay quoted price for everything. Just be aware if going to work with them. Their communication isn't congruent amongst employees. Their time management is off and quality of service is 50/50. I'd also follow up before your appointment to make sure the parts your bringing your car in are actually there so time isn't wasted. In the end they paid for the cost of labor which I was grateful for though it doesn't add up for the amount of time lost and product I expected to purchase. read more

I don't use Young VW for all our services -- have done some scheduled maintenance and oil services elsewhere, even other Young Automotive shops -- but I've been really pleased with Ryan and the service team since the previous Cutrubus days where I've taken our past VWs and Audis since 1999. Sometimes an error code and problem arises that you need a dealership with their most current of diagnosis tools and parts. I like the pick-up/drop-off services they will hail for you being integrated now with Lyft so it's faster and more reliable than when Cutrubus had a staff driver. The diagnosis, videos, and checklists that are link-texted to you, though not technologically problem-free (the 'message the technician' feature isn't working), is also a great step forward in clarity of disclosures of recommended actions for review and decline/approval. Furthermore they will still advocate on behalf of customer interests -- for example if its okay to belay some recommended service items (like a cabin filter) that aren't crisis/urgent -- as well as to make sure to use and apply the best available discount from Young's various current marketing efforts like emails and mailed flyers. And lastly, the repairs recommended (while not the cheapest rates for all services and thus I don't use them for everything) seem still honestly presented; service turnaround has been reasonably prompt (if not as fast as hoped); and always friendly. read more

Towed my VW in from Wyoming to have a key programmed, fill a very low tire, and a safety recall performed. My fiancé picked up my car because I was working. Before she even got to the Wyoming State line she had a blowout from driving on the low tire they never filled. I left work and drove three hours to get her back on the road. After getting home, I realized my odometer was completely gone, no mileage. A quick google search revealed this was from the key learning procedure not being completed. The recall also wasn't done because "It wasn't on the paper". I had to again take a day off work and drive my car to Utah to have the key reprogrammed and the recall to be performed. I was told I'd be compensated two tanks of gas. I was given a $50 gas card which isn't even one full tank. They do the work and I pick up the car and drive home, this time I didn't have paperwork from them so I called Young Volkswagen and was told that the recall was not performed. The service department at Young Volkswagen is so incompetent and unprofessional, it's unbelievable that they're still in business! I now have to take yet another day off work and drive to Utah because these incompetent people can't do a simple task. I am currently working with a Volkswagen customer care advocate to make this right because the dealership is absolutely no help. Finally caved to the billion texts telling me I had a free safety recall. Spoke to a service manager over the phone who assured me it was a 2 hour repair, tops. Arranged for a 7:30 am drop off on a Monday morning so my husband could take me to work from the dealership and then take me back to pick my car up on my lunch break (I work at an elementary school and can't just leave whenever I want) About 2 & 1/2 hours after I dropped off my car, I got a video and a service quote about $900 worth of work my perfectly running Tiguan apparently suddenly needed, including an oil change (my husband had changed the oil less than a month ago) I also got a text almost immediately after dropping my car off from their sales department about wanting to meet with me about trading my car in "since I was there". When I texted the service department back and declined the $900 worth of unnecessary services, they told me that they DIDN'T EVEN HAVE THE RECALL PART IN STOCK and that I would have to bring my car back and leave it for a couple of days! All to replace a rear spoiler that might come loose and would not be a safety hazard at all. Felt like the biggest bait and switch EVER. Completely dishonest and misleading. I bought my car from this location when it was Cutrubus VW, and have only had to deal with Young since they took over the dealership. Never again. TERRIBLE service and SO shady! read more

They squeezed us in as out-of-towners on a road trip: they read, explained and cleared the codes, and had us on our way. DRIVE TO STRONG! No distance or inconvenience is worth doing business with Young Volkswagen. I had a car serviced with Young VW recently for a strange high pitched noise that was occurring intermittently. They looked at the car, sent me a walk around video, and diagnosed the problem. The vehicle was covered under warranty and consequently I didn't think that there would be any charge for the service appointment. Well, they said that the "noise" was coming from the brakes and rotors and offered to replace them for $1900. I don't know a ton about cars but I was fairly confident that brakes and rotors would not solve this problem, and I certainly wasn't going to pay $1900 to replace them. I went to get the vehicle but they wouldn't release the vehicle to me until I paid them a $200 diagnostic fee. I paid the fee but wanted to talk to the service manager about it because I didn't see why I should pay this diagnosis fee on a car under warranty. I called later that day and spoke with the service manager Eric Iman. Admittedly I was upset and super frustrated that I was forced to pay the diagnosis fee. The service manager was a piece of work, he had the technician that assessed the fee in the office with him when we talked, and repeatedly interrupted me while I was telling the story of what happened. He dug his heels in in support of his employee and eventually hung up on me. In the meantime I took the car to a local shop and had the brakes and rotors replaced for about $600 (as compared to the $1900 quoted from Young VW). Guess what, it didn't fix the problem. I put in an email and a phone call to Kory Martin the General Manager at Young VW. I explained to him what had happened and after a couple days he responded saying he wanted to pull phone records and talk with Eric Iman before he got back with me. When he finally called me he didn't wait to hear anything from me he simply said that he sided with his team and that they wouldn't refund the diagnosis fee. I told him that I would never do business with them again. Kory said he was fine with this and also hung up on me. By the way, in this conversation my tone was not elevated at all. And my biggest disappointment in Young is that they weren't looking to solve a problem, they were just looking to justify their actions, despite whether they were right or wrong. I made a call to Strong VW in SLC to schedule an appointment to see if we could fix the problem. They saw me a couple days later. When I sat down with Strong I had a really frank conversation with them about how Young VW and I had "fired" each other and that I didn't want to have that problem again. They were very open with me an explained that they would also assess a diagnostic fee if the problem was not a problem covered under warranty. I told them I was fine with this and was happy to have this communicated up front rather than holding a vehicle hostage for a diagnostic fee that I was unaware of before going to pick up the vehicle. Strong found the problem on a short test drive. It was a bracket that had come loose and the muffler would periodically rub against the prop shaft. Guess what, Strong repaired this as a courtesy and waived the diagnostic fee. I reached back out to Kory Martin at Young VW and let him know that they wrongfully assessed a diagnosis fee (because they diagnosed the problem incorrectly). Do you think he got back with me? Nope. So, in other words, the price of a loyal customer at Young VW is $200. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. read more

I have a 2014 Volkswagen Passat, that I bought brand new when this dealer was Contrubus. This car has been excellent and very dependable, with a Volkswagen, if you do the recommended maintenance, you will have no trouble with these cars. The only repair I have made on this 9 yr old car is a new battery. They are precision German made, and if you take care of them, do the suggested maintenance when required, they are as dependable as a Honda, or Toyota, but In my opinion a smoother and more refined driving experience. I haven't owned a Honda vehicle, but the VW was as good or maybe more exciting as my Toyota. Thanks! We came to the dealership to test drive a 2022 Taos SEL, which we had decided we was the car we wanted. We already had an appointment with Southtowne VW, which was closer to us and the sales rep there had promised me a $2500 discount on the MSRP because it was the last day of the month. After the test drive, Brittany, the sales manager at Young asked us what it would take to get us to buy the car from them that day. We said, if you can match the offer and get us the blue book on our trade in, it's a deal, but we were in a hurry because we had a birthday party to get to. We verbally agreed upon a fair price and a fair trade in value. We trusted our sales rep Sam, who was brand new. We trusted the sales manager Brittany, who was handling everything for him. And we trusted the finance manager Landen, who did all of our paperwork. Because we were in a rush we signed everything without paying as much attention as we should have. After all, we had already verbally agreed to a fair price and trade in. Bottom line, we made a huge mistake trusting these people and I will never do it again. Not only did they not give us a discount like they promised, they charged us more than $5000 over MSRP. In addition, they gave us $800 less on our trade in than they promised. As someone who doesn't deal with these contracts regularly it was easy to mistake the figures before financing with the figures including the finance charges and I think they counted on that. They knew we were in a hurry and took advantage of the situation to add thousands of dollars to the purchase price we had agreed on and take $800 off our agreed trade in without informing us. They essentially agreed to one thing, and then took the opportunity to max out our approved financing and squeeze us for every penny possible. When I realized what had happened, I called to speak with the GM and was told that he doesn't speak to customers, which is funny because the day after I made the purchase, the email I received gave me a number and name for the GM and said to reach out anytime with concerns. The best part is the name of the GM in the email was wrong and the receptionist had never heard it before. I took a truck in because it was leaking coolant. They said it needed a water pump and one other part that was inside the water pump housing (starting to sound like b.s.). They quoted $2000.00. They then parked it, lied twice about having parts, called and talked in half sentences with a lot of "so yeah, that's where we are" and "as soon as that happens, we'll get on it". After they had it for a few weeks, I took it to a real shop and it was diagnosed with broken freezer plugs and repaired and it's all good. The water pump never was the issue. Honda told me I needed my front brakes done couple months ago and they didn't know why my check engine kept coming on so I went over to Young Volkswagen and told me everything what was wrong with car. Let's not sugarcoat it - my experience with Young Volkswagen was downright dishonest and a clear attempt to steal my money. I brought my 2014 MK6 Golf TDI in because the diesel particulate light came on, and they tried to tell me I needed a new thermostat for over $1,500 and a timing belt for more than $2,000, plus the $200 diagnostic fee. I expected the fee, but the rest was pure deception. After taking my car to a different shop, I learned that everything Young VW told me was a complete lie. The second shop charged me only $150 and took a few hours to force a regen, clear the soot, and bring the car back to normal. They even confirmed the thermostat didn't need replacing, and my timing belt wasn't anywhere near needing a change. Young VW made me pay more for a useless diagnosis than what it cost to actually fix the problem. This dealership was clearly trying to scam me out of over $3,000, and I will never trust or return to them after this infuriating and disappointing experience. read more

I purchased a used VW Sportwagen TDI this spring at Cutrubus VW Layton. Braxton in the sales department was helpful, diligent and communicative and helped me get to terms on the vehicle I was happy with. The night after purchasing the car, I discovered some electrical faults that were not revealed during daytime test driving. I was VERY worried because although the car was new to me, it was a USED purchase and quite frankly the contract was an 'as-is' purchase. The sales managers were very understanding and connected me with Matt, the service manager. It took two visits to fully remedy the challenge, the first to fix the faulty parts and the second to fix the cause of the faulty parts after it revealed itself. Each time Matt was incredibly respectful, understanding and accommodating, above and beyond the call of duty in my opinion! Made an Appointment to have my car serviced at 9:00am and was told about an hour. At 10:25am I noticed my car hadn't moved from its parking spot where I left it. So I asked the service manager for the keys and he informed me "they are still working on the vehicle and it should be done soon" I told him that was incorrect and my car hadn't moved. He finally was able to track down my keys. The sad part was while I was waiting for an hour and a half I spent that time in the showroom looking at the Atlas V6. Do not deal with Brandon Sackett in internet sales, he is probably the laziest piece of trash I've dealt with. I'm currently working in California and about to come home for thanksgiving, I'm looking to trade my car in for a new one, I have been trying to talk to him for around 6 days now, 3 of those days I didn't get a response, I was trying see if I could get a potential deal going to buy a car from there and Brandon was supposed to be working with me but he was basically dragging his feet the entire time. I explain to him that I was flying into town and there was no point of me going by the dealership to talk about anything unless we can work up a deal, there's no point of me driving my car 10 to 12 hours when I could take a two hour flight and not put 1500+ miles on my car that I'm trying to trade in. After I explain that to him he was acting like he was willing to help told me he was going to get me a bunch of information the next day I sent in my van and pictures and mileage on my car and he kept dragging his feet on Friday claiming he was going to get information to me and never did and then Friday basically told me you need to come in and talk to us in person. You would figure someone with A1 credit that's trying to buy a $40,000+ car and put $10,000 down with a trade-in they would be willing to work with you, I guess not. I rarely bother with reviews on social media but it is important to me to share my experience buying a new car at Cutrubus Volkswagen, not just out of appreciation for my own experience, but also in the hopes of providing valuable information to anyone in the area who is shopping for a VW. As to the VW part, I was as surprised as anyone to find myself shopping for one. I found my way to the Golf after being frustrated with the way features were packaged in other cars. The Golf was one of the very few manual transmission cars in my price point that included safety tech features like blind spot detection. I have had it for almost a month now, have taken it on a 1500-mile round trip, and love it so far. Shopping for anything in SLC can be a demoralizing experience. Despite what the Mormon-centric PR may have you believe, SLC is actually pretty gritty and full of con artists and scammers. This can truly be a desert for a person in search of an honest man. No car salesperson is a hundred percent honest. It amazes me to see the many one-star reviews of car dealerships for things that are a standard part of the experience. The five stars I'm giving Cutrubus aren't compared to some idealized experience no one gets, but are relative to realistic car-buying expectations in late-capitalist America. I came to Cutrubus after a deeply demoralizing experience at Strong Volkswagen in SLC. I could wax at length about the many tricks and lies I encountered with them, but for purposes of brevity and clarity, I will focus only on the most relevant. First, Strong VW installs an annoying pulsing third brake light on all their cars before purchase and asks you to pay $500 for the privilege of having this thing you most likely don't want on your car. Second, Strong VW are so committed to profiting off of their finance department that, when I was about to close on a deal on a car with said light installed, it was rejected because my down payment was too *high*. I was told I could only get the deal that had brought me in if I cut my intended down payment by over 50%. I am so glad I walked out on Strong and rang up Cutrubus. Despite the low rating they had on social media (I should note that Strong *requires* positive social media reviews to get certain perks with them; Cutrubus does not even ask for social media reviews), they had the same exact car I wanted in stock and I was willing to take a chance. Cutrubus were transparent and easy to deal with from the beginning. My enthusiastic new salesman, James, did the legwork for me to make sure that I could make my full down payment as part of a negotiated deal. James' manager, Justin, who also helped me during the buying experience, confessed that Cutrubus used to do the pulse light installation too, but stopped after it led to a cascading series of problems for their customers. The profit just wasn't worth the unhappy customers for them. This seems completely logical to me, but Strong continues to insist on the practice. In the end, with Cutrubus, I got the kind of deal I think both sides feel good about--a little compromise and negotiation was required on each side. I agreed to finance with their chosen institution for (only very slightly) higher than I would have through my own credit union, in exchange for more room to negotiate on price. Cutrubus didn't push me or try to up-sell me on "options"; the only required fee beyond doc and registration fees was for an anti-theft program that was less than half of what the Pulse system would have cost me at Strong, without the downside of having something tacky installed on my car that was likely to fail and require repair. I just took it as part of the standard dealer fees, which were less than they were at Strong. With the significantly better APR, lower tax rate in Layton vs. SLC, and lower fees, I ended up paying almost exactly what I would have at Strong even though Cutrubus offered about $1500-$2000 less off upfront than Strong did. I should note that I was able to deal with them even though I'm (a) technically a first-time car buyer; (b) had long-ago sold my last car and did not have a car to trade in; and (c) have good, but not amazing credit. I was so shocked at the difference in my experience that I kept waiting for another shoe to drop. A month later, I'm finally starting to relax into the reality that I got a good deal on a car I am loving. So please: if you are in the SLC area and in the market for a VW, don't overlook Cutrubus! read more

Very pleased with the service department here. They gave me a paper with recommended services for when my car hit 60k miles. Very professional. Went in for an Oil Change and they do a very good inspection of the car. I always feel as if my car is safe to drive whenever I drive because they do a very thorough job. They also send you a vehicle report of the inspection and the tech that does the work will post videos of what he is looking at.
