The service tonight was awful! I arrived with a party of four people ,we were directed to "sit anywhere" by another staff member . we waited 30 minutes ,and were not given drinks or menus ,or even spoken to by the waitress . 6pm dinner on Tuesday. Staff greeted us right away and offered that we choose where to sit. It was good that I reviewed their menu on Yelp prior to going since it is extensive; hard to choose for a first timer. We had a pot of green tea, a Rainbow roll with eel sauce, Ikura and Masaman with tofu and fried rice. The roll and salmon roe were deemed okay, acceptable by my companion. The masaman was delicious, with plenty of sauteed onion and flavor. Fried rice, same. We ate every morsel. Delicious. Overall, excellent and quick service, warm and welcoming vibe. read more

Personally I like Thai Yoshi better (great serving sizes and prices) but Young Sushi Rocks is literally 3 blocks from my work. Ordered pad Thai for me and monkey balls for the wife. Mine came first but my wife's didn't come for 20+ minutes. We waited. No waitress came. We had to flag someone down and ask where the monkey balls were. My wife was angry because of how long it took. We complained to the manager but all he had was excuses. Hardly any apologies. The service was horrible. No offers for refills on drinks. Nothing. They acted way too busy to help all the people there which wasn't completely full. We won't be returning. This place is a never again place for me after this last visit. Nine months after my first review, I'm downgrading my previous 3 star review to 1 star. We came in at 1150am on a Saturday and got sat right away. We ordered after 20 minutes of waiting at our table. There were only 2 waiters for 14 occupied tables. Expect the kitchen to take awhile after you place your order. Two of our four dishes came out at 12:35pm while my friend got the wrong dish at 1245pm. When the right dish came out (she had ordered chicken fried rice with added jalapeno), they substituted green pepper for jalapeno. Whaaa? I waited until 12:55pm for my green curry chicken. My curry came out inedible and I have rather low standards (to which my friends heartily agree). There was way too much fish sauce in my green curry chicken. Who knew it would have fish sauce? This place used to be iconic but between the poor service, the slow kitchen and the bad food, I cannot find a reason to come back. read more

I was very pleasantly surprised to find good sushi and Thai food in Amarillo Texas. I wasn't in the mood for sushi so I had wonton soup and Pad Woon Sen. The wonton was really good...gr3at flavors and not too salty...the cellophane noodle dish had a nice flavor and a good sized portion. The individuals I was with shared a Love Boat (basically a mix of sushi and shashimi..they said it was very good...my 1 friend is from LA who is known for excellent sushi...and he said, it's not quite LA but it's really good...I will definitely be back. read more

Simply putting I was disappointed when an issue arose with trying to carry out food. Simply missing items with no assistance to fix the issue at all. I'm gonna add a star as the food we did receive although cold was tasty. I just hope the staff can be more helpful in the future when issues arise but I'll stick elsewhere. My experience and Young's has always been lackluster. This most recent time it was terrible. I was with a group and we ordered sushi and Pad Thai to share. The meat in the Pad Thai was hard. It was obviously just reheated. The sushi was mediocre. Honestly, it tasted like grocery store sushi. Updating my review: I've had Young's Sushi multiple times within the last four months and have had nothing but fresh delicious sushi. My only criticism for the restaurant: they don't place wasabi between the sashimi and rice with the nigiri pieces. read more

Decided to give this a place a try when I heard the sushi was better than Kabuki. "Maybe I will find great sushi in Amarillo after all," I hoped. I don't think I should hold my breath. Located in downtown, Young's Sushi is a essentially a sushi dive. You can park along side the street or in the alleyway beside the restaurant. We came here for dinner on a Friday night and although parking wasn't too bad, seating was incredibly limited. We managed to find a table, but our friends had to wait almost 15-20 minutes until something freed up. There was a whole crowd of people just waiting for tables. It's was pretty chaotic. We ordered some egg rolls and fried cheese wontons to start. Both of these were delicious! Freshly fried and served with some duck sauce. My brother ordered a bowl of the egg drop soup. Believe me when I tell you it's awful. The broth was watery and grey. Ew. His girlfriend got the curry, which was actually very good and the consistency was thick enough for me. Awesome. We then ordered a ton of sushi rolls and a bunch of nigiri sushi but they didn't give me an itemized receipt so I can't remember all of them. Their california rolls were AWFUL. Where's the avocado? Where's the imitation crab? It was basically rice, TONS of cucumbers, and the tiniest sliver of crab I had ever seen. The Live Volcano roll, which is basically crawfish baked in a cheesy sauce on top of california rolls was mediocre. The crawfish was overcooked and smokey and of course, the California Rolls didn't help it at all. The rice wasn't packed well and the rolls weren't rolled tightly enough. Every piece I picked up broke apart in my chopsticks. The nigiri sushi was surprisingly fresh, though. Salmon, scallop and unagi were all pretty good. Prices are a little bit high, but I suppose when this city only has two decent sushi places in town, they have a bit of a monopoly. Service was awful that night, but the owner informed us that one of his wait staff couldn't come that night. Still, the sushi took forever to come out and my water was empty for most of the night. Overall, not a bad choice for sushi, but I still prefer Kabuki. If I do come to Young's Sushi, I'll probably stick to the nigiri sushi. Okay food, okay service, clean establishment. This was an interesting find on our way home from New Mexico. The sushi wasn't bad, but there's room for improvement. Ingredients weren't very fresh. The entrees weren't bad--the Pad Thai came in a ginormous portion. Service was mediocre (waitress forgot our edamame & our drinks were monitored). This place did satisfy my sushi craving, so it'll be another contender for a road trip dinner stop. read more

I like the albacore at Kabuki better, but they're having major sushi bar staffing problems right now. So for lunch, it's either Young's or Sakura. Tried out this place today, and it wasn't half bad. I'm stoked that they have smoked salmon (you'd think that wouldn't be too hard to find, especially in a landlocked area)! And the albacore is OK. The edamame is a bit crunchy, but they were also slammed. It took forEVER to get our sushi. I think part of it is because they were totally packed and everyone and their brother was ordering like 10 things from the sushi bar. Also, I'm not sure they've got the hang of things yet, being relatively new. That's what I'll tell myself. The gyoza are to die for, though, and they actually offer REAL Thai food on the menu, as opposed to every other Thai restaurant in town. Which is pretty funny for a sushi place. Also, the rolls are huge and everything's pretty cheap. I've certainly had better sushi, even in Amarillo, but it's really hard to beat decent stuff in big portions at great prices. And the staff is a riot. This place is a lot of fun, and has a lot of personality, even in the decor. Hells yes. read more

UPDATE: We made it back over to Young's and the service was MUCH improved. We had none of the problems we previously noted in the cons, so we've upped the star level. It's a solid 3.5 - 4 when the service is good. The Pros: Really good rolls, and a huge variety of roll options. The atmosphere is casual, and there are options for the non-sushi-eaters in your party. The vegetable tempura was tasty and the portion size was ample for the price. The Cons: The service is really slow. The kind of slow where a betting pool develops at your table regarding how many minutes things will take. The atmosphere may be a little "too casual" for some. Also, we had 4 "extra" charges for items we either didn't order or didn't receive. *Definitely* double-check your ticket before paying or you may over-pay for your meal. Verdict: 2.5 -- The rolls were good, the sushi and sashimi were average. If the service had been even tolerable, the rating would be a star higher. Since we just moved to town, we'll probably work our way through all of the other sushi spots before coming back. . *Props to the two employees on the floor that really seemed to be hustling to make it a better experience for the customers. I do not understand people who eat here and order California rolls. California Rolls are strictly american and a safe sushi. With that being said I would like to say that I love coming to eat here. The main sushi chef always greets us at the door and he is awesome. Even though I am slightly allergic to avocado, I enjoy eating Monkey Balls. Don't let the name fool you, it's a deep fried sushi roll topped with Kewpie Mayonnaise. It's NOT like the mayo you'd buy at a basic supermarket. It is sweet and delicious. The cheese wontons are a perfect appetizer, but don't get full on appetizers, because the portions here are quite big for the price. There is a small selection of beer and wine, but if you came here for the alcohol you came for the wrong reason. The sushi is cheap and delicious, the service is great, and I always leave with a full tummy of sushi! read more

Young's has above average sushi, with close to 100 different rolls. The quality of the fish isn't as good as Kabuki's, but is still pretty fresh. The Thai dishes are great, the yellow, green and red curry are my favorites. Young's really suffers from terrible service. I've eaten there about 20 times and have never received great service. Give it a shot if you're traveling through town and have some time to kill. Don't expect good service though. read more

Understandable on a busy night or something, but it was 1 pm and we were one of four other couples in the place. Also, We had three rolls (nothing too special) and a tempura appetizer with two softdrinks. $70. That's just freaking CRAZY because the sushi quality was that of pre-made grocery store sushi. The rice was so old the rolls fell apart as you picked them up with your chopsticks. It's making feel a little nauseous just thinking about it. We've been hitting Young Sushi nearly every time we go to Amarillo... which is almost every weekend.... since they were in their old building down the street. Lot of reviewers claim the egg drop soup is awful. Never tried it. Too busy slurping down the miso soup, which is fantastic. Very rarely do we order off the regular menu, but have gotten the fried squid appetizer a time or two and it is always cooked right. MONKEY BALLS! Order these and often the staff will start yelling MONKEY BALLS! Salmon, cream cheese sushi deep fried. It's dirty delicious! We've had great luck with the Hamachi, Sake, and Unagi nigiri. Also fans of the Spider roll, the Young Special (uses Daikon instead of nori), and this one that is rolled in a sort of egg pancake.. want to call it the French roll but can't remember now. Don't waste time with the crab nigiri. It's basically a big piece of fake crab slapped on rice, and that stuff isn't good by itself. Service. Hit or miss on this. Depending on who winds up as your server, you may be well attended, or nearly forgotten. I have also noticed that since they moved into the new building, there are more young guns behind the sushi counter, and the rolls seem to fall apart a lot. Lunch prices are dang cheap, and evening ones are still less than you'd see at a lot of their competitors. Young's is really my favorite Asian food restaurant in Amarillo. The owner is very friendly and a little bit quirky in a good way that adds a lot of feel to the place. They have moved a block south from their original location. The new place is much bigger and looks great. They have a huge selection of sushi and a good selection of cooked plates. Several dishes that you can't find anywhere else. Many items come with a choice of soup. The Miso is where it's at--wonderful flavor. read more

Great quick lunch downtown - they're usually pretty speedy in terms of service. I always order sushi and I've always been pleased and enjoyed my lunch. My must-have is the spicy tuna roll and the tuna is always fresh...believe me, you can tell when tuna is past its prime. I always look forward to my next Young's visit. read more
