I was traveling for work and my wife had no choice but to use this company because they were the only ones who could come out quickly. Big mistake. The tech diagnosed my indoor blower motor issue during the initial $189 assessment. He then quoted over $5,120 for a simple ECM blower motor replacement -- including separate inflated charges for "motor module/program" ($2,488) and "motor winding/special order" ($2,294). He claimed it needed special ordering and programming at a distribution center. After researching the exact model (Genteq 5SME39SL0674), I discovered these motors are readily available for $500-$800 as pre-programmed drop-in replacements from multiple suppliers. Labor should have been a few hundred dollars at most. This quote was 3-5 times what a fair price should be. I could even justify 3500 max in an emergency type situation. But the $5150 is an egregious amount for what was required. I felt completely taken advantage of, especially since my wife and child were in a bind with no AC. The "non-refundable once programmed" line felt like a classic pressure tactic. The service was completed, but the value was nowhere near what I paid. After tried to repeatedly get some sort of costs justification from the Manager during a call the next day, even being open minded to the HVAC system being described as the "Cadillac" of HVAC (2011 purchased and installed by the way) I received no back-up support and feel that this was just such a scammy way to run a company. Because of the blatant carelessness in working with a customer, I will be pursuing other means If you're looking for honest HVAC work, look elsewhere. They kept everything clean, covered all walkways with tarp. The duct work was also neater, Compared to my old one. They added a Ptrap for easy cleaning. The unit itself runs great, house feels more comfortable. Much Even temperature across the levels. The crew was very efficient. They did have a hiccup. But they came back and fixed the following day. They did not even take payment before I am happy. They were not the cheapest. But their quote was much better than most other companies in the area. They plugged in a tester and informed me that it was the motor control module that was bad. The cost to repair was $1200.00 and the system was 18 years old. I elected to have a complete system (furnace and AC) installed. Crain was there the next day and did a complete install in one day. There was some miscommunication about Lennox financing but that issue falls to Lennox rather than Crain. Workers were prompt and courteous. They covered my basement carpet with a tarp and even covered my wood flooring steps with a tarp trying to be overly cautious of my home. I thought the tarp on the steps was dangerous for them but that's what they did. I don't believe the cost of the system was out of line. Prompt service, good pricing, courteous workers, steps taken to protect my home, and the install went smoothly. Not sure what more you could ask for. There is always someone who will find fault with some minuscule detail but they did a good job for me. The most important question, Would I recommend this company to you. Answer, Yes. Be sure to hawk over any tech working on my home from now on to ensure you are properly charged. - The issue is not that I don't think they performed work, rather that they should have presented the charges before completing the work as they were called for a diagnostic. I'm not sure how you can diagnose without checking pressures and refrigerants. So if all of that was "free extras" what was the extra $75 charge for???

It's not the same business and my experience with Mastercraft was not good, just from basic customer service perspective. I made an appointment to troubleshoot a non-working AC. They said they couldn't give me a time window until the day of. So I called at 8:30 and the office told me should be afternoon maybe around 1. So I skip lunch figuring I'll grab something on the way over when I get the call. No call, so I end up eating only crackers. 4:30pm rolls around and I call and she says I'm next. Next, it's 6pm and the office is closed and I'm wondering if they're still coming or the tech ran out of time. So I call the after-hours emergency service and the on-call tech did call me back and said the tech is still coming. The tech calls me at 7pm and so I rush to the house to meet him and he gets there at 7:30pm. He diagnoses the problem in 2 minutes (no pressure, 20 year old unit, need new). And oh by the way they probably can't install a new one for another month. They're obviously very successful yet they can't be bothered to invest in a system to keep the customer informed when they're coming. Lucky I didn't take the day off work since I work close enough to rush home but it's just a basic lack of customer respect. Anyway bottom line is that Suburban no longer exists, it's just a name (now Suburban Mechanical) that forwards to another business. On the bright side, I found a small very capable business that was able to come out and schedule me within a week.
