My boyfriend and I were craving sushi, and stopped into Yosuke on a Friday night. We had the option of table seating and sushi bar seating, and decided to sit at the sushi bar. Service was fast, and the sushi chefs were awesome - joking with customers and showing off their sushi sculpting skills. We started with edamame beans (salty and delicious) and the seaweed salad which was nice and refreshing. The dressing was great. This isn't like many wakame salads which are primarily seaweed. This salad also had mixed greens, tomatoes and sprouts. The miso soup was also really good. We ordered a few rolls as well: the eel, salmon skin, spider and Philadelphia. The Eel and Spider were my favourite - the eel roll was drizzled with a rich and flavourful eel sauce, and the spider had a delicious crisp soft shell crab. The salmon skin roll was also pretty good, and had nice smoky notes. It was a little drier than the other rolls, but delicious nonetheless. I'm usually not a fan of the philly, but this was pretty good too! The presentation of the oyster shooter was pretty impressive, filled with bright orange caviar. It had quite a kick, but you can control the level of spice. Next time, we'll try the table seating as the menu if different. This is my new top pick for sushi in the area. As a retired Marine having served in MCAS Iwakini Japan 岩国 日本, I can honestly say I really miss being there. I miss the culture, the people and the food. Now that I'm living in Anaheim Hills, I have a lot of opportunities to dine at Asian restaurants. Of course I prefer Japanese. I walked in and was invited to sit down at the bar. I noticed the place was clean and tidy and ready for business. Nice music was playing in the background. I noticed one of the sushi chefs name is Yuki. I knew he had to be Japanese, so I greeted him and asked how he was doing in the Japanese. Yuki San 雪さん replied in Japanese and asked how I was doing and so I replied back in Japanese as well. Then the waitress, Marisa San マリサ さん presented me with a menu. She asked if I wanted something to drink. In Japanese I asked if she had Nihon cha (Japanese tea) and she replied and said they do have Japanese tea. Then I asked for a sushi menu and was quick to get me one. I ordered the Bento combo 'A' and got the beef entree. The beef was very...delicious!!! Then I ordered octopus, squid and tuna sushi. It was also very good and very fresh! While eating I had a simple conversation with Yuki San and he asked me how I know how to speak Japanese and so we talked about that. After finishing my lunch, they took my dishes away and refilled my green tea. I highly recommend Yosuke Sushi to anyone who wants some good food, good atmosphere and good people!!! I found my OC sushi joint. I always go to Little Tokyo to find my sushi but this place is on point. This is NOT Korean owned, and it is REAL Japanese Owned! I am Korean and I do NOT like Korean sushi places, that is my preference. Fish quality is good here, and the sushi chef definitely gives u the japanese sushi chef experience. I had an opportunity to eat lunch here the other day. The outside had gate-like entrance, and the inside had some nice wall hangings and decorations, which would remind me a better-than-average Japanese restaurant in Japan. Waitresses were all Japanese, and while none of them were young (sorry :P), they were very attentive. The tea mug cup had "yosuke" written in kanji. Anyway, I ordered sushi special. Overall it was pretty good with a few minor reservations. Why did they have to serve me two albacore nigiri's? Even though they were good, one would be enough. I also wonder why the shari portion also had to be applied with the same sauce that the fish was coated with. Tuna was good, although tekka maki (tuna rolls) had some unrolled portion. Shrimp was average. Egg had cooked shrimp and some sauce on top. It was good, although I kinda wished I would just eat egg. Snapper had momiji oroshi (grated radish with hot pepper) and sour sauce. It's usually done to conceal the fishy taste and smell, and the end result was good, if not great. Salmon was excellent though. So yeah, if I left right there, I'd consider this place 4.5-star. $12 for 8 nigiri's and 6 small pieces of a roll was good, but just not up there. But since so many people gave 5-star to this place, I decided to let the extra appetizer I'd order to determine. I ordered nameko oroshi (grated radish with sticky mushroom on top). Thankfully I was no longer hungry, so when they told me they no longer had nameko, I simply asked for shirasu (fresh baby sardine) on top instead. The result was great. The grated radish was fluffy, spicy, and a little sweet. They definitely used quality radish. The amount of sardine was a bit too much, but because of that, I did not have to pour any soy sauce. Oh wait. I did once, when I ate the beefsteak leaf at the bottom. It was heavenly, and the sip of green tea after me finishing that appetizer reminded me how sweet green tea could be. So there, I decided to give this place 5-star. Too bad that this place is located a little far away from other attractions though. Oh well, when I go to Anaheim again, I'll try to come here again for dinner. A calligraphy by Michiba Rokusaburou (original Iron Chef for Japanese cuisine: Morimoto is secondary compared to this guy) probably justifies the restaurant's worthiness. read more

Normally, this used to be our go to place, so we were very surprised at the poor quality of food when we recently ordered take-out, Covid19 style. Call me a sushi snob if you wish, but if you are sensitive to proper sushi then i would take a pass at this place, at least for now. I really enjoyed my meal at Yosuke Sushi. It was pretty busy, even around 8pm. We were able to get seats at the sushi bar. The whole atmosphere was super friendly. A couple a few seats to our right bought beers for the sushi chefs and drank with them! We ordered the Poke because it was something I've never heard of before going to SoCal. It wasn't just one particular fish, but had a variety of fish, and even octopus. The sauce was quite delicious. We also ordered the Mitzy Roll, which was made by Mitsy himself! It was my birthday and this place was the closest restaurant to our house and my first choice was closed on Mondays. Yelp reviews looked ok. For the prices on the menu, twenty-ish dollars a roll, I was expecting a good to possibly very good Japanese food experience. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. My wife ordered the salmon dinner entree platter with the fried chicken and mixed tempura. The rice was not fresh, it tasted like it had been in the "keep warm" mode of the rice cooker for longer than a day and had a funny smell and was slightly yellow. We also ordered a couple appetizers like fried calamari and agadashi tofu. Terrible. The calamari was small and leathery, like clam strips you get at bad seafood restaurants. Pretty sure it was pre-made frozen calamari they bought from a restaurant supplier. The agadashi tofu was over-coated with potato starch, so it had a thick gummy coating covering low quality firm style tofu. The waiter recommended a number of their signature dishes sashimi, dressed with sauce, and things like fried onions and another dish had sliced Serrano peppers. They were ok, the quality of the fish was good. The sauce was a little over powering. Finally we had several orders of nigiri sushi toro, salmon belly, yellow tail. Again, fish quality was good, but wow, the rice was bad. It was cooked too dry and wasn't really seasoned. I would have been disappointed in this place if it was a $35 all you can eat place. The quality of food is so out of line with the prices they charge, I feel a little taken advantage of. The only thing keeping me from a 1 star review is the quality of fish and our waiter was very friendly. Don't recommend. I would not come back. read more

I went here yesterday with my wife as well as last week with a friend, so I have tried a few things out on the menu. When I first came here, although the parking was a bit crowded, I was shocked that there was a Japanese restaurant run by Japanese in Anaheim Hills! In addition, the interior is very trendy and reminded me of some of the nice restaurants I have eaten at in Japan. I found the menu to be geared more towards Americans, but I was satisfied with the food. I had the unagi (eel) bowl my first time, and it was definitely the best one I have had in Southern California so far. Although the dish is small, there is a generous portion of eel inside that tasted fresh. I had the tuna bowl yesterday, and although the volume was not as generous as the unagi bowl, it was still very tasty. I can't give this restaurant 5 stars, though, because of the comments from my friend and wife on their food. The Japanese friend thought that the chirashi bowl was OK or average, and my wife thought that, despite the volume, the unagi bowl couldn't beat that of Fukada in Irvine. I also would have hoped for a more authentic and or creative menu. Yosuke still is a good place to go to and definitely deserves four stars. Try it out if you are in the area. read more

I've gone to Yosuke Sushi a couple of times in the past month all with my family (parents and sisters). Whenever we have gone we always get great service. Let me just talk about the last experience I had there. It was raining super hard this past Friday and my middle sister, fiance, and I got to Yosuke after my parents and youngest sister. They had already been seated. So after getting settled in...the server came to take our drink order. We quickly looked over the menu and decided on our food. Mom: Sashimi Combination Middle Sister: Chawanmushi (steamed egg) Youngest Sister: Dynamite Father: Combination Dinner 2 items - Chicken Teriyaki & Shrimp Tempura Fiance: Combination Dinner 2 items - Sashimi & Shrimp Tempura Me: Combination Dinner 2 items - Sashimi & Shrimp Tempura Our food came out relatively quickly (minus the Chawanmushi which takes a while). My mother said that her sashimi was good...but not as good as the previous time. All in all I think this is a great place to go with a family but apparently they do not take reservations on the "weekends". So if you get a chance go over and just know that you get a great bang for your buck and the quality of food is spot on as well. read more

My ex-boyfriend's mom took the three of us out to eat for dinner here one time claiming it would be a good way for her and I to get to know one another better. After that dinner it's safe to say I'm willing to tell her my deepest darkest secrets if she promises to take me again. Everything was that good! Amongst the dizzying array of nigiri sushi we gobbled up was tuna toro and salmon toro, uni (sea urchin), and amaebi (sweet shrimp). It was all melt in your mouth goodness. I thought the sweet shrimp was really interesting. I'd never had it before so I was a little surprised when the sushi chef plucked some shrimp out of the aquarium that I had been glancing at while waiting for more food. He then proceeded to peel and chop off the heads of the wriggling shrimp and then served it up just like that. I swear I saw my pieces twitch slightly once more. Can't get anymore fresh than that. It was the first time I tried dynamite too.. didn't realize back then that it probably the most perfect tasting dynamite ever. Since then all the places I've tried have made their's too creamy, salty, or just plain gross. This place is worth saving up a paycheck and going just to splurge and be an adventurous eater. read more

One of my favorite Japanese restaurants in the OC! i loved their tempera udon. I think they gave me two pieces of shrimp tempura too! Most places only give one. I absolutely love their combination entrees. It's about $20 something, however it can fill two people up. It offers so much food on there and the bowl they use to place everything on is enormous. Don't do take out. While that says it all, I'm going to share the disgusting details. My wife and I had done a dry run during lunch the Wednesday before our order of doom so that we could get a feel for the food and the specials. So at 5:01 when they opened I placed a large order of Sashimi, Sushi, several of their specials, and of course 2 kids meals. I was told it would be 25 minutes and thought all was right in the world. When I showed up at 5:30, I let them know I was there and then paid. Then the waiting began. Several couples and parties showed up and were seated. They got normal service and as time went by they began getting their food. I was notified that several of the specials I had ordered were 86'd because they ran out. Odd I thought, given it was very early on a Friday night. I said no problem, pull it off the check. 5:45 or so I asked how my food was coming, as I could see many patrons that arrived after I did getting food and of course it was supposed to have been 20 minutes before my inquiry. Just a bit more. 6:00 I asked again about my order as I am watching food go out the tables that have continued to arrive since I showed up. By now I'm totally disappointed. 6:15 I asked for a refund because this has become ridiculous, its now been over an hour since I ordered. The hostess tells me any second, I watch he walk over to the sushi bar and tell the chef to finish up ... I then wait another 10 minutes. I got home to very hungry kids and an annoyed wife. This is where the disaster in the containers began to completely shake any trust I had in this establishment to provide food to customers. The kids meals, were predictably cold and soggy. So we opened our fridge and made Miso & Tofu ourselves. We just couldn't go back for repeat of the horrible performance. The adult meal of sushi & sashimi, sans many of the specials, oh my. So how by asking for take out, it translated into "Take our our garbage, rotten, inedible fish". My Uni should not have been served, it was literally rancid and shouldn't have been in a case let alone on a customers plate. Giant Clam wasn't bad, it probably had come in within a few days and had not lost ALL of its crunch but another day and it was going to turn to rubber. Tuna sashimi looked and tasted like it came from the local Von's super market not from a purveyor of Grade A sushi ready fish. Yellow Tail sashimi this was good. Halibut sashimi was good albeit clumsily prepared and was way to thick for those that are used to a traditional serving. The scallops both as "sushi" and served as "Tuna Rose" were remarkably bay scallops ... yes those tiny kind that should only be served cooked. Not the U25s or similar fresh / farmed scallops one would normally expect if they were to be consumed. Irrespective of size, it was the dishwater smell and taste the put us off. The Tuna Rose was presented as tuna around scallops (which I've had a a number of quality places), and had it come out as intended probably would have been ok. I can always forgive sauces, but I can't forgive rotten fish. This was inedible. Sadly, the Scallop Sushi was prepared with the same mayo mix and plopped down over rice. Yeah, sad. Blue Fin - it wasn't, but at least it was sushi grade. Toro - it wasn't, and it was the same thing as the Blue Fin. So this is just a lazy chef. The rest of our rolls and sushi were passable but not any better than day old super market. It should come as no surprise, we won't ever eat here again. There are mistakes I can live with but rotten fish is not one of them. Whatever is going on with the night time staff the owner needs to fire someone. The lunch crew had their act together and I will say it was day and night, no pun, between the service and food we had just a few days before. Again, don't do the take out. Lunch was okay, but honestly with 6 other sushi bars in the area its not hard to find something better. I'll post pictures of the receipt and food shortly. read more

Whatever you do, save the time and DO NOT go here. Not sure if he was the owner or manager but he had a horrible attitude. I had a $70 takeout order and when I walked in, he was completely appalled that a customer had come in while he was working. His first words out of his mouth was "can you just WAIT?!", um sir, I literally just walked in. Did not make sense at all, not worth coming back ever again. I have been going to Yosuke for many many many years. It truly is my favorite sushi bar in southern California. The fish is always fresh and the the side dishes are well prepared and flavorful. Every time I go I have to order the following items: Beef Tataki: thinly sliced beef slightly seared with pepper and garlic with a spicy sauce drizzled on top. Clams: clams steam or stewed in a sake soup. So delicious. Salmon sashimi: perfectly cute and always so fresh. Veggie tempura: great array of veggies. The best of course is Japanese pumpkin. Wide variety of sushi and sashimi. They alway have fresh live seafood selections such as live uni, ebi, large clams and abalone. Amazing tuna toro and other great quality seafood. I always look forward to eating at Yosuke. I have to save money every time i plan on going because its on the pricy side but it's always worth it. You can never find A+ quality for cheap. Oh one other thing I like... If you order a large bottle of sake and you can't finish it they will put your name on it and store it for you so you can enjoy it on your next visit. read more

I was invited here by a friend 2 weeks ago. I would never picked this place in a million years, let alone knew this place existed. Appearance: On the outside it looks like any normal hole in the wall restaurant. Sign on the outside pretty plan nothing makes it stand out. Inside: Typical Japanese restaurant, had the bar in the front where the chefs made the sushi in front of the customers and tables in front of them. I got there early (2 of us). Waited in a line on the outside, since they only opened up at 5pm. Once inside at 5pm, everybody got their own seats, however they wouldnt sit us for a party of 6. We had to wait for all members to arrive before sitting. Pretty dumb in my opinion. Service: It was busy. Waitress wasnt amazing or anything. She did her job. We ordered our meals. Appetizers came pretty fast and dinner orders came at a good rate. However my meal took like 5 mins longer then everybody elses. So everybody was eating while I was still waiting. I ordered the beef+chicken teriyaki combo (pretty big - see pic). Food: I can't judge the sushi here, since I had the beef and chicken teriyaki. I hear the sushi is good. My meal was average. Nothing spectacular, same beef and chicken teriyaki I can get at Yasai or any other Japanese place. Pricing: Was good prices. I got alot for $22. The menu seemed fair. For an early Valentines Day we came to this sushi joint. Found out that the ownership just changed from a previous Japanese owner to Korean. Came in just before the rush. After we were seated 6-7 different parties were seated after we ordered. Got the Sushi Deluxe, Chirashi, Soft Shell Crab, and Ankimo. Quality of fish was ok but for some reason tasted a bit bland. The soft shell crab was pretty good and the ankimo was tad sour because it seemed to be doused in ponzu sauce. I asked for ankimo and the waitress asked if I would like it as a sushi or appetizer. I asked for the appetizer. She left and came back saying the sushi chef would like to know how the ankimo appetizer looks. With a bit of confusion I pulled up a picture from a different restaurant and she took my phone and showed the chef. I got my phone back and she said she just started to work here a few days ago. Awkward moment passed. I gave this place 3.5 stars but rounded up because the food came out quickly. At least their miso soup did not taste like water soup. Nice. read more

Writing this review the day after going to Yosuke for dinner. Arrived at Yosuke Sushi around 6:45 on a Sunday night and placed my name on the waiting list. There were 5 groups ahead of me with group sizes ranging from 3 people to 6 people. I waited for about 15-20 minutes before I was seated at a table so the wait was not too long. Upon being seated, my party was left without being offered a menu and there was no menu to begin with on the table. This part was slightly off putting. After about 5 minutes, one of the wait staff asked if we had already ordered and I let them know that we were not given menus. They apologized and then remedied the problem and went on their way. This would have been a small issue but at the end of this exchange, the wait staff that was assigned to our table didn't offer to start with any drinks and the end result was that another member of the wait staff had to take our drink orders. The follow up for the order placement was actually pretty prompt. The issue was the turnaround time. I understand that the sushi is made to order by the sushi chefs at the bar and that it takes time, however after placing my order, I waited roughly 30 minutes for my food and during this time, we were even approached by yet another member of the wait staff inquiring whether or not we had already placed my order. Kudos for that member for being attentive to the situation at hand. Something I did notice was that there was a wait staff member that seemed to walk around alot without getting much done. On even one occasion, one of the members in my party needed a couple extra napkins. This shouldn't be too big of a request to satisfy, BUT that one member of the wait staff told us to wait a minute as he continued conversing with another member of the wait staff. This seemed a bit rude. I brushed off this instance thinking it was just administrative things that was being handled however towards the end of my meal there, the same member of the wait staff that told us to wait was once again conversing with another member of the staff and after conversing, took a quick walk around the front of house and then went back without doing anything. This action stood out like a sore thumb in a room that was packed full of patrons. The food in general was a-ok, we ordered a Yosuke Deluxe Super Chirashi Bowl, a regular Chirashi bowl, and a Sashimi plate. The quality of the fish tasted pretty fresh and the plating was decent. Overall the food was good but for the price that is offered, I feel that I have had better eating at other places. This might be because of the wait time and turnaround between ordering and eating or even the way the wait staff was towards taking care of customer requests. All in all, I think Yosuke is a decent establishment with good food but, there are some things that needs to be worked on such as wait staff operating procedure and how to handle customer requests. read more

Used to be one of our favorite Japanese restaurant in the Yorba Linda/Anaheim Hills area, but since it changed to the new ownership, the portion has decreased, and gradually the price has gone up. Today when I went there for take-out meals, I found out that the lunch combo was missing the California rolls and a piece of fry chicken. If you're looking for good sushi... keep looking. When I got to the restaurant I stood at the entry way for about 5 minutes before anyone would even look in my direction. I got my order and drove home (5 minutes away). The food looked good but once I ate it I could tell it wasn't good quality. The crab mix in the rolls had too much Mayo. I had a hard time distinguishing flavors and freshness. I got the red spider and noticed a lot of water coming from the roll.... maybe the crab is frozen? I also got the baked salmon roll and the salmon was wayyyy over cooked. I prefer when the salmon is rare in the middle, but this salmon was like eating wood chips. Came here today with my dad to get dinner. One of the first things you notice is that the ambiance seems a bit higher end than most other sushi places. The waiters were very helpful and respectful as well. We sat at the bar and Kin was our chef. It was enjoyable getting to converse with him and the other chefs as they prepared our food. The experience was definitely worthwhile and we will certainly be coming back. Not to mention that the food was excellent as well! I was going to take pictures of it but I already eaten it all by the time we were done... I only remembered to do so at the end when thy gave us fruit for dessert. We had a baked lobster roll, a baked salmon roll and sushi, all of which was very well prepared and delicious. When first looking into the restaurant, one could not see anything due to the blackened out windows, but once we stepped in, we understood why it was so. The interior was extremely nice. The tables, chairs, and sushi bar were really more extravagant than what we were expecting before looking into the restaurant from the outside. The exclusion of outside light gave the restaurant it's own ambient lighting which set the mood which paved way to a great setting for a nice dinner. After admiring the scenery, we finally chose a place to seat. As we sat down the service was great being prompt and quick while also being courteous and patient. We took our time looking through the menu and ordering. The sushi roll selection was a bit limited but still had the normal selection. Also on the menu were some udon as well as other Japanese dishes such as the seared Kobe(weird how this is autocap on ipad; laker fans? Lol)beef. We ended up finding the poki, dragon roll, and spider roll were what we were craving for. First off we notice there is not much rice on the rolls which make it a good thing considering how many places just overstuff the rolls with tons of rice. Second, we see that the rolls were made quite well being tightly rolled up and equal parts throughout the dish. I hate it when biting into the end and only getting a tiny bit of fish left. Third, the food was delicious! The dragon roll was seasoned well, the soft shell crab wasn't too deep fried and covered in oil, and the fish from the poki was very tasty and tasted super fresh! tl;dr, ambience was great, service was good, and food was better, but the lack of roll selection was a minus. Yusuke has a pretty decent selection of fish. We had the toro, uni, scallop, and salmon. The toro is similar to Kabuki's. The scallop was seared rather than with yuzu like Ohshima...I prefer Ohshima's scallop. We had to flag a staff member down for an order of tempura. Higher-starred Japanese restaurants check on their patrons. The tempura was decent. This restaurant is not bad, so worth a visit. read more

2 stars for the quality of food. -1 star for the server who forgot to input one of the rolls. So we had to wait even longer for the second one. -1 more star for the sushi chefs doing more talking behind the sushi bar than making sushi. Waiting even longer for the second roll.... -1 store for having to call the server over instead of her coming and checking on us. Also seeing my sushi sitting up at the bar for a couple more minutes. Seriously? Overall, service is terrible, not prompt and there seems to be no sense of urgency. The salmon, yellowtail and spicy salmon rolls were good. I've been coming here with my family for more than a decade but recently, the quality is just horrible! The prices have gone up drastically but most importantly, the portions and quality of the meals are poor. All the waiters and sushi chefs look unfamiliar and the food just doesn't taste the same. Rolls that were $17.50 last year are now $32.00. I understand inflation, I'm an economist, but 80-90% and it's not any better food. So 4 rolls, 2 beers and a soda cost 165.00 plus 20% tip. read more

Unfortunately they changed ownership and quality has gone way down. Used to be my favorite place. Will not be going back.
