My family came here for dinner on a Saturday night. Honestly, we originally tried to go to Yagi Sushi across the street, but they were packed, so we decided to give this place a try. First of all, it was Saturday around 7PM (prime time dinner time) and the place was empty! Red flag! The sushi bar was dimly lit and all the fish was wrapped up in cellophane. No sushi chef. Also the restaurant is need of a major facelift! The owners put up some twinkly lights to cover up the old and run down decor. I personally found it kinda gross. After we ordered, the sushi chef came out and he looked like he just woke up from a nap in the back. The raw sushi/sashimi was awful. Not fresh at all! The rolls without raw fish were decent. Our server was nice, but if you are looking for fresh sushi and are a sushi lover, go some place else! The food here is so good, I can't believe I've literally lived walking distance from this place for 35 years and just recently went in for the first time. It's not a huge restaurant so don't be discouraged if you have to wait. The service is very efficient, normally the wait times are not too bad. The staff at this place makes me like it even more. They are so kind and really go out of their way to make sure everything is perfect. After coming just a couple of times they remembered us and even remembered my mothers exact order to a T. I work a lot of weekends and this is kind of become my mothers Saturday night go to. She barely has to walk in the door and they are already getting started on her order. Was passing through this town and stopped here for dinner for the first time. It seems there's a new owner that everyone is complaining about in these reviews. Seems like old hags that typically don't like change. Our dinner overall was good. The service was prompt, the food came out at a decent speed and tasted FRESH. I know people like to use that word alot in sushi bars, but most of them don't know what that truly means. Everything tasted like it was prepared then and there. No overnight frozen or preprepared filet fish or old rice. The tuna, kanpachi, yellowtail and halibut carpaccio, mountain and albacore fire roll, even chicken and beef was good quality. This sushi joint is A-OK! I had been here a couple times as this is a local place to my office, so my co-workers come here for lunch. The parking is pretty reasonable, and I haven't had an issue parking in this center during the lunch hour on workdays. The place is pretty small but has tables and a bar. There are lunch specials offered during the week, and that is what I ordered. The last trip I ordered the sashimi salad and shrimp tempura lunch special with green tea. The special came with soup rice but I declined the rice. The presentation of both the salad and tempura are very pleasing. The tempura was also very good. The sashimi salad was okay. You get about 5 pieces of you standard fish cuts on top of the salad. The servers are always nice and you never feel rushed by them. Kin is the best sushi Chef here, he can make amazing dishes like a poki bowl that is executed perfectly or sushi and sashimi. Service is friendly and the seafood is very fresh, items like live shrimp and uni (sea urchin) are available here when most sushi places don't have these items. Japanese food has become so marginalized these days. You can get sushi or Japanese food anywhere made by WTH knows. But it is becoming increasingly harder to find quality joints where the owners, chefs and staff are Japanese. I prefer to go high quality places on occasion and spend good $ vs just getting a weekly sushi fix and eating marginal food. Kasen, Kitayama and Angotei are all places I frequent by HB. However, I was pleasantly surprised that Yosuke met my def of a high quality joint despite being located in a strip mall in a residential hood. I Yelped a couple of places close by after a golf game that were reviewed by a couple of my Yelp friends. We ordered primarily from the daily special menu. Fresh tako (octopus) sashimi, amaebi (sweet shrimp), bluefin tuna ($hit I hope we didn't eat a radioactive batch-lmao), kumamoto oysters, hamachi kama (yellowtail collar) and the piece de resistance - fried amaebi heads! (all pictured) We also ordered some basic stuff (my friend is haole-lol) tempura appetizer, unagi and salmon skin handroll. However, I took the liberty of ordering dessert - uni w/ raw quail egg on top! (pic). Of course we also had a couple of large Asahis to wash it all down. The amaebi, tako, oysters and uni were super fresh. They all had a nice clean taste. The bluefin was OK, but did not taste as fresh as the others. The hamachi kama was also very good: Large portion, fresh and grilled to perfection. The meat was very tender. But the best part of the meal was the amaebi heads. OUTSTANDING! Crunchy, fresh and all that goodness you would expect from this part of the shrimp. The tab came to $145 w/ a 20% tip which I think is reasonable given the quality and amount of the food. This place is far from HB, but close to my work so I am definitely returning the next time I am in the area. read more

Came here for a birthday, they don't take reservations anymore but on a Sunday night around 6pm we didn't really have to wait for a table for 5. PARKING: It's in a random plaza so there are a good amount of spots. Its near a thai restaurant and nail salon. ATMOSPHERE: It's kind of small inside which is why there is probably a wait, with a sushi bar and then tables/booths. It's actually fairly "fancy" or nice so I could see it being a good date place or somewhere for a birthday. FOOD: I think most people get the sushi or the combination entrees, it's enough to share with 2 people and it's around $20 for the combo. You can choose 2 different "meats" and then it comes with rice, miso soup, orange, watermelon, a salad, 4 pieces of california roll and 2 deep fried imitation crab balls. We got the mixed sashimi (tuna, salmon and white fish) and the shrimp tempura. Get the shrimp tempura because they give you 4 pieces of shrimp tempura and then mixed veggies too, so if you get the mixed veggies tempura you'll only get the veggies. They had a zucchini or squash, potato, sweet potato.... Overall, plenty of food for two people. I also got to try some other dishes... Spider roll - pretty big and also fresh/good. Sashimi - a little tough and not as buttery as some sashimi i've had but it wasn't bad. Cold Udon - an interesting concept, the udon was fairly chewy - not quite as chewy as I was hoping but it's just soba with udon. The dipping sauce is slightly bland though. Tempura - it's not overly flaky and oily like most places, it's a smoother tempura with a good crunch. I really enjoyed it, and usually I don't use tempura sauce but this time I was. Chicken - kind of dry and it's served cool/not piping hot. Definitely worth the try if you're willing to spend a little more! But if you share with someone, it's only around $10 per person for the combo and you still leave pretty full. read more
