There was only one waitress who seated, took orders, brought food to everyone during the lunch rush. There wasn't many tables, probably 4 total. She was extremely friendly, but the service was just SO SLOW! We came right when the restaurant opened, so 2nd table seated and it took 30 minutes for her to bring our drinks and take our order. The total lunch took 2 hours for something we thought would be a quick work lunch. It was so slow that even the sushi chef started helping her and brought us our drinks because he saw us sitting there for so long being ignored. I don't blame her, I think more people need to be working if she's not able to tend to that many tables. I will never come back here due to how slow the service was. FOOD (4/5): We got the omakase lunch. It came with a lot of food and the salad and clam soup appetizer were HUGE! It came with 10 pieces of nigiri sushi's and a maki roll. The food was delicious! Same experience with some earlier reviews: We went here on weekday, at least 5+ tables were empty. But it took the little Asian hostess 10 min to talk to us, said you have to wait for 40 min to be seated. Come on! the restaurant is empty! Is this place even still in business? I've tried eating here multiple times since covid and have been unable to even eat here at all. First time, I called and I heard them say they were closed even though it was about 2 hours before their listed closing hours. Second time, I walked in on a friday night and I heard them say they were only doing reservations. I've been here many times and, compared to many other Japanese restaurants, their food feels very fresh and authentic. For example, their salads which comes with your meal is always light, crispy, and fresh, while their soba noodles are refreshing. Although the wait for food can take awhile (usually not more than 40 minutes), I believe it's worth it since the atmosphere is great for taking with your group or even with the friendly waitresses. It's not the type of customer service where you're a guest, but more like you somehow ended up eating dinner with your friend's family. They're also always polite, not because you're a guest but because of Japan's polite culture. The people there work pretty much all day since it's very much like a family business, so they're very passionate about what they do. I would recommend making reservations since it is a small restaurant and there's only one person working in the front - serving/ packaging to-go and answering phone calls. The service was amazing and she was constantly checking up on us and refilling my hot tea. I ordered a variety of sushi and yellow tail cheek. Everything was delicious and I love the size proportion of the sushi. The fish was fresh, I definitely would recommend the halibut/ albacore/ tuna sushi and negitoro roll. Very good small Japanese restaurant. The Maguro Don was amazing. The maguro was fresh and the rice was perfect temperature. As for service goes, they don't have many working, so expect service to slow down when there are a lot of customers. We had no issue during lunch when there's 4-5 tables filled. Ever since my first review about Maguroya- I have been back numerous times. More so during the pandemic as working from home was the norm. For Friday date night - I was eager to order the scallop roll, crunchy roll, and of course, the spicy calamari. This has got to be my favorite Japanese restaurant ever. Everything is just so fresh and tasty and clean. Their rolls don't really use imitation crab which I am thankful for. It's just not really sushi if they add that (I'll still eat it though!) During covid, the packaging is neat and they are very sweet with bringing the food to your car if you still need to wait for your order. I appreciate the staff (the waitress and Kaz are seriously so hospitable) and everytime I come in - it's such a treat. You seriously can order anything you want on the menu and it will be a HIT. For almost being put out of business by the COVID epidemic, the restaurant had to downsize and reservations are a must. Though the service may seem slow, the waitresses are attentive and very polite. All of the menu items we ordered were on Point. Immaculately clean dining area which with good seating options. Sushi hand-rolls were very good. Teriyaki chicken/beef/pork/mixed tempura/pork cutlet (Katsu) items were delicious. Also the cut rolls were very high quality. The quality of the meat and seafood (sushi) is very apparent. Today, I ordered the salmon bowl. I was initially hesitant since the lady said it was cooked salmon on sushi rice. The food has been good there so I gave it a try. Glad I did. I do agree with some of these reviews that they could maybe hire a few more people to speed up the pace of seating and putting out food, but the staff that is already there is so welcoming and sweet, especially the lady that is always up front. Food is spectacular every time I get it, all the lunch/dinner combo items are delicious. My favorite dishes are their Salmon Skin Salad (seriously so good) and their Negi Toro. The food and experience is VERY authentic. The ownership is Japanese which is actually rare to find with sushi restaurants these days. That's how you know it's good. The prices are also very reasonable. Every part of my experience was perfect. The miso soup is great. The sushi itself is 10/10. The natto is very good. The service staff is wonderful and very friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the interior looks straight out of Japan. I spoke with the owners while I was dining. It's a family business and they have been doing this for 25 years! I'm not exaggerating when I say that this is the best sushi restaurant I have ever experienced. Yorba Linda is 30 minutes away from my house and I will be going back soon just for this restaurant. I cannot emphasize enough that this is the best sushi restaurant at least in all of Southern California. I eat at Nobu and Roku often and this place has them beat. I have to agree with all the latest reviews written. I have been going here for years and even a few times during COVID to show support. On our last visit it was just after opening and the restaurant was empty. We went early to a pod the crowds. Even though only one table was being used were were told we couldn't be seated without a reservation. We stood there SHOCKED. I felt very disappointed and unappreciated as we have gone there even during the pandemic to support their business. Now that things are looking better they choose to implement a reservation only policy with no regards to the actual current status of the crowd? How disrespectful is that? Located in a strip mall across a big Japanese market this Japanese owned/run sushi joint is a good option for sushi in the area. I have frequented this place before and after COVID and the place has pretty much been the same in food quality, service, and timing. Have ordered a variety of dishes like ankimo (ie fish liver) that is similar to Foie gras, their omakase sushi, chirashi, and hot plates like sukiyaki, chicken teriyaki, and grilled salmon. All their entrees taste good and decent for the price. Most of their dishes are accompanied with either miso soup or small salad. The appetizers are great but I recommend the soft shell crab without panko crust. The Panko can get a bit thick and oily. Also, they have an option for calamari that can be sautéed but I recommend the fried as the sautéed is overpowered by sauce. If you are in the area this place is a great option for authentic Japanese cuisine. read more

Their agedashi tofu is a refreshing starter before diving into the main menu or rolls. What's up with the serving size??!!! It's been years since we've been here because this place is just plain stingy and you don't get your money's worth. Well, nothing's changed. For a $20 combination, we got a very petitte overcooked chicken breast, 5 tiny pieces of sashimi (I'm guessing each piece is a thin one square inch), and a decent bowl of sukiyaki. We also ordered the hamachi kama, which received raive reviews from some, and it was, what else, small. Not tiny, but nevertheless small. Because we weren't satisfied, we ordered a couple of salmon and hamachi sushi. Surprise surprise that the sashimi is generously described as petitte. The fish barely covers the sushi rice, which is finger wide to begin with. I don't get how they manage to do pretty good business. For the money and quality, I'll take Oishi any day. read more

Maguroya is one of my favorite sushi restaurants! My favorites are the yellowtail, red snapper, fatty tuna (toro), salmon, and Unagi (eel). Their sushi always tastes clean and bright and is smooth on the tongue. The people who work there are also very nice :) When I've had a long day like today -- up at 5 am, worked late, went to the gym, and still not home after 8 pm -- this is a meal that makes the day better! Every friend I've taken here has liked what they've ordered. I usually just get sushi but my friends have gotten rolls and liked those too. My only wish is that they were open more hours!
