First time here on a Friday during Lent... what was I thinking? Ha! We were told the wait would be 25-30 mins for our order, but it turned out to be closer to 35-40 minutes. This was around 5:45. It looks to be mostly a take out place, but there are a few tables. We grabbed one and waited it out. It was pretty good! I'd say the price was high for fried fish and a few sides, but that's what you get in most all types of eating establishments these days. The fries had these strange tiny crispy things underneath that we are still wondering about. The green beans were mushy, and are served with chopped bacon. Since we abstain from meat on Fridays we had to take those home for later. The coleslaw was liquid-y and too sweet. Not deal breakers, but we may skip those options next time and try something different. Back to the fish and fries: crispy, well cooked, and hot. Service was quick and polite. It was busy and crowded and really hot inside, so I commend them on their timing at which they worked to get food out, and their positive attitudes. I ordered a cup of clam chowder to start. On the first taste, it was slightly on the salty side, but overall I enjoyed it. The flavor of the clams and potatoes came through nicely, and the soup was satisfying. I only wish there had been pepper available on the table to enhance it further. I also sampled a piece of the chicken. It arrived extremely hot, impressively flaky, and generously portioned. It was well-prepared and enjoyable. The fish itself was good, though slightly fishy, with an underlying flavor I couldn't quite identify. It wasn't unpleasant, just noticeable. The accompanying sauce tasted like mayonnaise with a hint of dill but lacked depth and overall flavor. A lemon wedge would have helped brighten the dish. The meal, however, left me feeling quite heavy from the amount of oil. While I appreciated the quality and preparation, it is not something I see myself returning for due to how rich it felt afterward. As for the restaurant itself, the building looks worn, like it has been here a long time. The doors appear in need of a fresh coat of paint--gray and visibly dirty--and the floor felt oily underfoot. While I was there, the tables were being cleaned and sports were playing on the TV overhead, giving the space a casual, local feel. That said, the service was good--friendly, welcoming, and attentive. I did get the impression they could use more business, which is unfortunate because the staff clearly cares about the experience. We have been going here for years now so I think we know the good and bad. Always order the fish and chips and its always a treat. Mustards hotdog fries are better than the chips here, but the fish and chip combo is still a winner. If you call ahead before they open, it seems like they wont start your order until almost opening time, so thats a drag but it is what it is. Will still come back though read more

My fav fish spot so far in Denver when Im craving fried fish. Its a quaint spot on Pecos with enough seating to please those with some time to sit and eat freshly cooked seafood. The also have shrimp, oysters and more but the fried cod is my fav. The batter is light but firm and the fish fresh and tender. You can ask for salt, malt vinegar and tarter sauce. Orders come with fries and the portions are ample. You can also just get the seafood. If you call ahead you can avoid the 5-7 minute wait to get your to-go order made. A rare gem of a fish & chips shop. I drove by a few months ago and checked Google. They are not a chain and have been in business since 1971. This is a bare bones diner. No touristy wall art, just simple tables with wood chairs and a good AC system. I got 2 pieces of fried Icelandic cod with chips (French fries) for $ 19.90; It seemed to be a high price until my order was ready. Two large pieces, about 6 oz each. The fish was not pre-battered because I could see an uneven amount on 1 piece. The fish was hot. They gave me 2 tubs of tartar sauce and malt vinegar was available at the table. Underneath the fish was 12 fries and batter crumbs. I added a cup of clam Chowder and a Mexican Fanta Orange soda. The Chowder was excellent. Equal parts of clams and potatoes with a creamy sauce. It was not oversalted. The Fanta was the true Mexican version, just sugar. No high fructose corn syrup. You order at the counter and Shaun called my ticket number about 10 minutes later. They accept cash and debit/credit cards. Other fish includes shrimp, clams, oysters and scallops. Plenty of sides. They have soft drinks, beers and mini bottles of wine. They also have desserts. You can get family packs of fish & shrimp. So my total was $ 27.35 + tip. A very good deal. Note: They fry in peanut oil. read more

I've had a lot of fish and chips in my life. This was the best I've ever had. The fish tasted fresh, it was freshly fried and the flavor of the breading was amazing. This is by far the best fish and chips I've ever had. Better than what I've had in California, Florida, North Carolina, or Virginia. The service was great and the team was very informative and patient with us or making our first time order! It's a little pricey, but it's definitely worth it. I highly recommend you get there when they open because as soon as we got there there was probably 20 people behind us shortly after the place has been around for over 50 years and once you taste the fish you'll know why the only reason why I gave this place four stars instead of five is because I wish they gave you bigger plates to eat your meal and suggested they get better french fries. These fries reminded me of high school cafeteria fries, not the best but the fish was amazing and the clam chowder was delicious. I highly recommend you give them a try. read more

We came to Denver for a friend's wedding. Our habit is to eat local. Yorkshire was less than a mile from where we are staying. I enjoy fish & chips greatly. But to be honest my fish is usually fresh water ( Striped Bass, Catfish...) My dad has a breading recipe that was good enough for a local cookbook back in VA. My wife is from the Atlantic shore of VA. She is very opinionated about FRESH seafood. All of that to say...YUMM!! the portions are big, I for one was thrilled with the bed of 'crunchies' the fish came on. The bits of batter/ breading that come off in the fryer. This was a favorite spot growing up. Haven't been in years but was craving good fish n chips and remembered this place. Imagine how disappointed i was with this. The 3 guys working weren't friendly and the one actually assrmbling the orders just stood there zoned out. Plenty of greasy over cooked fish to put orders together with. The smell in the resturant was just old grease and the fish reflected it. Just terrible and the fries tasted like they were cooked in that old fish oil. Limp and greasy and no salt. I review this place every time we visit Denver. We keep coming back because it is the best fish and chips in the west. It's the same ownership for the past 30-40 years. The Hansons have had it in their family for ever. Crispy, hot, cooked to perfection the fish is fantastic. This time I got the combination. So good. As a person who has been to the UK/Ireland, I had my fair share of delicious fish and chips. I can say for Colorado this is one of my new favorite joints to get fish. The chips are rather plain, but I'm not there for the potatoes. I do wish they had more traditional condiments though like garlic Mayo or just plain Mayo would make this perfect and I'd give 5 stars! the tater sauce is overly sweet and tasted like "Kraft" brand which I absolutely find disgusting. Today is MY Birthday. Actually Hubs wants to go some other place to celebrate MY Birthday, but I told him, I would like to try to eat at this establishment just to compare some notes... When we arrived, sometime like about 1615hrs, there are quite a number of patrons dining in this establishment. There are a couple of patrons requesting for to go orders too. So we made our order, and take a seat while waiting for our order to be ready. Many more patrons, came while we wait for our order. About 15 to 20 mins, then our order was ready. These were what we order for this evening : * Fish & Chips * 1/2 order of Fish & Chips * 1/2 order of Shrimp * 1/2 order of Mushrooms * A small bowl of Clam Chowder * 2 beverages... Hubs had the full order of Fish & Chips while I had the 1/2 order of Fish & Chips. I did not know that the 1/2 order shrimp comes with fries, so there are plenty fries shared among the two of us. We even have plenty leftovers and I like the fries too since its the Not so skinny version of fries, NOT the CHUNKY one kind of fries..., the normal kind of fries, just the way I like my fries to be... Hubs like his order of Clam Chowder. The dish that stood out for me this evening was the Mushroom. I am still trying to figure out, what they put in the batter to fry their mushroom. I LIKE IT! Another good part about this establishment is, that they provide extra sauce without us asking for it. Its good when you are hungry. Its worth to eat here, coz to Hubs its cheap. The total bill for us was $30.12! But Hubs prefers the other establishment of Fish & Chips that we ever went before. All in all its an OK experience eating here. Nothing fancy, just good...Its a toss of 3 to 3.25 stars... The establishment is kept clean. This place reminds me of a "old-school" cottage, but Hubs told me perhaps this establishment was from a Mexican restaurant in their previous life. The rest room for the ladies is kept clean too. My man has been talking about this place for a looooong time & we finally went in this past weekend. I absolutely had to get the mushrooms because of all the reviews (& because I knew I'd have them all to myself... he's not a fan of mushrooms). I tried them first with the ranch they provided. That was a mistake... the ranch was very peppery & just not what I was looking for. But the mushrooms by themselves were fabulous. Very crunchy, well flavored exterior gives way to juicy deliciousness inside. Then it was time for the fish. These look more like massive fishsticks than filets but they all have PLENTY of quality fish inside. Pair them with a splash of vinegar & a dab of slightly sweet tarter sauce, and you're in business. The fries were good though I guess I prefer the steak cut with my fish... These soak up the vinegar with no problem though & paired very well with everything. It won't be a frequent stop (I felt a bit gnarly about eating a fully "brown meal"... no health food here, but that's obviously not expected) but it's on my short junk food list for sure. read more
