If you're going to charge $18.25 for 3 pieces of Cod, they should at least include the fries and/or make the Cod pieces a bit bigger. I could easily eat 6 pieces - which would cost me $34. So I have to decide between 1) paying $18.25 and still being hungry or 2) spending $34 to be fully satisfied. Multiply these numbers by anyone you bring here (significant other, kids, family)... there are plenty of alternatives that provide more value at this price point. My partner and I went a little overboard at GB. I hadn't been to either location but know it's one of his favorite things to eat, so I suggested coming here one weeknight. There was plenty of parking and the place was empty so we had a ton of time to contemplate at the front counter. The outdoor patio quickly filled up over time. Customer service is fantastic. We ended up ordering Haddock, Cod, and Pollock because we couldn't decide which one or two to get. We liked the fishes in that order! The fries weren't great, don't get those. Loved the clam chowder. Order at the counter and receive your table buzzer. Pick up at the kitchen window and sit wherever your heart desires. Onto the fish n' chips. They claim they batter and fry the fish to order. It must be true, because it's some of the lightest and flakiest fish you'll find. I went with the classic cod last time. The batter was crisp and enjoyable. I felt like the pieces of fish could've been a little heftier, but that's just me. With lemon and tartar, it makes for a satisfying bite! The fries were good, just a bit under seasoned. GB is a solid local chain sticking to what they know and delivering a delicious dining experience. I'll need to pop in here more often and not wait as long to visit as I did last time. This place is wheel chair accessible. If wanting to sit outside, please go out by the front. Food: Fried Cod 5/5 -- the batter was perfectly crispy and light. It was not thick. It was fried to perfection! Coleslaw 5/5 -- the coleslaw had the perfect balance to the heaviness of the fried cod. Very refreshing and not overly drenched with the sauce. Clam Chowder 5/5 -- super creamy and good balance of thickness to it. Loved every aspect of the soul! I've been here a number of times and this is the only fish and chips place (+ their Denver location) in the state of Colorado so far that never fails to please. They somehow fry the batter extra crispy without drying out the inside AND not "feel" greasy as I'm eating it. The batter is simple yet it doesn't taste boring. They're also generous with nice big portions. No complaints on the fries/chips but I'm mainly here for the fried fish. Also, I usually prefer skinny fries versus the chunkier style fries anyways. Other: -Scallops and squid - texture is pleasant and not too firm and chewy. They know how to fry food here in general it seems. -Shepherd's pie - tastes good but personal preference, I'm not into this type of dish. -Clam chowder - this is average. It'll satisfy a craving for new England style but set your expectations low. Drinks: Decent beer/wine selections to choose from as well as fountain drinks. Nothing too fancy here. This location of GB Fish Chips is the newest of the four locations in the Denver area. I had a $5 off birthday reward after joining their rewards program a few years ago. They converted a house into a cute dining space. The back yard became a parking lot for 3 cars + parking for Mini's and a handicap space. The side was converted into a grassy shaded area with picnic tables, a shaded raised deck, two fire pits and a "beach" for the kiddos. The location is on Ralston Rd two blocks west of Wadsworth Bypass near Olde Town Arvada. Inside is counter seating and 2 large community tables. I noticed their prices have not increased. I was served by Brennan M doubling as cashier. I got the full meal of 6 pieces of fried cod with Chips (steak fries) and curry sauce for dipping + Iced tea with free refills. Lots of English royalty memorabilia featuring Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana. I asked Brennan and the owners have not embraced the new King. The inside had a pub vibe. I wanted to like GB Fish & Chips. I gave them at least four tries before deciding to leave a poor review. On the fish and chips front, I think my dislike of GB's fish (and chips) is based more on preference than poor food. I prefer "Picadilly Square" fried fish which has a lighter, crispier breading than the heavy, often oily breading which I don't have a London reference for but dislike. (Eat at Yorkshire Fish & Chips in Pecos in Westminster CO to taste the difference). So I had written off GB Fish & Chips for a place to eat fish & chips, but was excited to try their meat pies when I saw a banner out front. Mistake! I have eaten delicious meat pies in England, Australia, and the U.S. that were gooey inside, not too much gravy (a handheld food) which were unctuous, satisfying, and delicious in every way. GB Fish & Chips' meat pies were not only small but also dried out, not gooey, not delicious... nothing "yum" about them. They were obviously worse for the wear from reheating... in short NOT good, not yummy, not satisfying in any way! And now onto GB's so-called "sausage rolls": after having had the opportunity to travel a large swath of the world, I have never met a worst sausage roll in my life. I think that GB wrapped whatever "sausage" was inside in puff pastry, which completely flaked off on first (or second bite) leaving me holding this wierd hard "sausage". I have never, in dozens of trips to places where sausage rolls are a "thing", ever seen anything like this "food" paraded as a sausage roll. It was a mess and disgusting! And so, as much as I would like for this Olde Town Arvada restaurant to succeed in the interest of our community, I WILL NEVER EAT AT GB FISH AND CHIPS AGAIN. read more

Only giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 because the fish and chips are good. Everything else about our experience was very disappointing. We arrived with no one in line and no one waiting for food. We were told our food would be ready in 15 minutes. 45 minutes later we didn't have a single thing (including our meat pie that sits in a warmer at the front or our clam chowder that can be scooped out of a vat). 5 groups of people who came after us had their food. We asked and they said "it's coming next". 2 more groups later and our food finally came 1 hour after we ordered. Originally they told us it would be 15 minutes because the shepherds pie takes a bit. The shepherds pie looked like a tv dinner - in a black plastic container that is obviously just reheated in the microwave. I don't often write reviews but this was absurd. Everything was mediocre at best besides the fish and chips - if you go here, don't consider anything else, and be prepared to wait way too long for your counter service food. read more

I moved here from Wisconsin and have been searching high and low for a decent fish fry. All of the varieties are made fresh to order. Just the right amount of breading. Most other places I've tried make a beer battered version where there is more batter than fish. I had a few PBR's and was all set. You order at a counter and eat either inside or on their huge yard area with picnic tables. The kids liked being able to run around a bit. The staff had great recommendations and were very cheerful. This place is really good! The staff was super nice and the host at the front had a giant smile that was super comforting. The wait for food wasn't long at all. The food came out really hot. Both the cod and scallops were very crispy! The fries and chips were good as well, they just needed a little salt which you can add. What a delicious meal. Man o man I will be back ASAP. The prices were reasonably low and the ambiance was adorable. The cutest lit up patio adorned with picnic tables out back, perfect for a summer day. I had the Shepard's pie which was amazing, it's pretty heavy on the mashed potatoes and I would have liked a little more meat but I'm not complaining at all. The cod was TO DIE FOR. It was the freshest batter I have ever had. OH MY GOODNESS. Best fish and chips I've ever had hands down. The clam chowder was also delicious. The place was roped off for covid standards. It's the most covid friendly I have ever seen any establishment. They made a one way aisle for you to walk into. Lastly, the staff was so nice. Huge patio for outdoor seating so great for these COVID times. Great spot if you have your bike too. Was easy to ride up and park at the patio. Order at the counter inside and they'll bring your food out too. Half meal was a good size, but someone looking for more fish may want a full meal or some extra fish. Plenty of chips to share. We went pretty simple with fried cod and chips. Thought it was great and really hit the spot. The outdoor seating and sunshine was great on a nice fall afternoon. Clean bathroom too. I don't know what happened with staffing but we used to always come and see the same guy taking orders and he had the best customer service we ever received. Went today and it was completely different. The lady took our order to where we ordered two bowls of clam chowder and then ever went back to confirm right after to make sure it was two bowls. Came out as two cups and I told them it was supposed to be two bowls and another employee shoved the ticket in my face saying "this ticket says cups" went back to pay for the bowls instead and the lady then tried to charge us for the cups and bowls. In all my years I have never had such bad fish and chips in my life. Maybe I have been spoiled with actually having been around good fish / seafood more than the average person, but what I was served cannot be called "fish". Long John Silvers wouldn't even call this fish. The fish was so incredibly overcooked the texture bordered on overcooked chicken. It also was so overwhelmingly greasy / oily that whatever fish flavor could have been was cooked out of existence. Batter was wet and sloppy, slipped off the fish upon touching. Where the fish was overcooked, the chips made up for in being horrifically undercooked. mmmm yum, chewy fries. Any fry that managed to not be chewy was wet and sad. read more
