DO NOT buy oysters this place. Bought a case of oysters that were spoiled we had to throw them away. Called this establishment and got into an argument with the owner where he pretty much called me a liar because it was hard for him to believe that the entire case of oysters were bad. He asked me what I did with them and I told him I threw it away and he was like "well why did you do that?" And I'm like "sir they were bad, why would I keep oysters after they have spoiled?" And he was like "well it's just hard to believe that the entire case was bad." I was like "Sir, I have been eating oysters for the last 30 years, I know when an oyster is bad." He then proceeds to tell me "Well if you have eaten oysters for 30 years, then you should know that those were not bad!" Needless to say, I will not do business with them. I was able to purchase 10lbs of fresh red snapper and several other things. The prices were reasonable. There is plenty of parking. For our anniversary I ordered two pound and a half lobster's. They arrived on time at York Fish and Oyster, the price was quite reasonable. The best part is they were delicious. York Fish & Oyster Co. is unique and amazing. They offer fresh and frozen seafood of many varieties, such as alligator tail, frog legs, whole squids and octopus, escargot, crabs and so much more. The place is nice, clean and smells like a fresh market. In the summer, they set up a little tent outside next to the York Fairgrounds and sell fair food such as fried oyster sandwiches and other fair style fried foods and soups. This is a great place to find good seafood while supporting a local family business. read more

5 star service!!! We called in advance to order oysters and actually changed or order several times as our party size shrunk (1 week pre-covid). We never got any attitude or grief about changing our order. Oysters were fresh and delicious, prices were very reasonable. This review is for the fish stand they do outside in the parking lot during certain times of the year. I love it! Prices are very reasonable. The fish sandwiches are big and fresh. They prices on the shucked oysters are the cheapest in York when they are open, and the best tasting. Oyster sandwiches are great. Shrimp jammers are worth a try, they are breaded shrimp with cheese and jalapeño. My girl loves the clam chowder. Try them out if you are in the area and they are open. So good read more

I read an earlier review of York Fish and Oyster that describes their outdoor stand as "nasty." This could not be farther from the truth. While I don't think that they have the best crab cakes or fried shrimp in town, it's still damn good. I look forward to when they open up their food stand in the parking lot out back, and I always stop by YF&O when they're at the York Fair. You really cannot beat the prices, and personally, I stock up for a couple lunches throughout the week. I may be a bit biased on this review because I love to support local businesses, but it genuinely is a nice surprise when I drive past the location and they're outside selling that fried fish. I cannot review the fish market aspect of the business, because I have never visited the location for anything other than the aforementioned food stand. read more

I am giving only 2 stars to this shop because of the low level of customer service. I called in an order to be picked up later in the day, and the woman on the phone was not very helpful. I told her I wanted to broil tuna steaks and asked her how thick they should be for broiling. Her response? "I don't know. I don't make tuna," delivered in a very brusque, unfriendly tone of voice. Now, back when I lived in NY, my ex and I owned a meat, produce, and vegetable shop. I never cooked (or ate!) liver, but believe me, if someone called or came in and wanted to know how to cook it, I would be able to tell them. It comes with the territory! Anyway, that was strike one. That evening, my husband and I picked up our order, which, by the way, came to $90. I'm not complaining about the price - I don't mind paying for what I want. The next day, Christmas Eve, my daughter came over to help me cook our fish dinner (clams, calamari, shrimp, and the aforementioned tuna). When we unwrapped the tuna steaks each one had a 3/4 - 1" border of black running around the outside of the steak. We had never seen anything like that before and didn't know what it was. Should we eat it? Cut it off? Throw out the whole batch? Luckily, one of my sons is a chef, so we called him and described the tuna. He told us the black part is the "blood line" and is not edible, to cut it off. While I was relieved that the tuna was still good, I was upset that I paid for about half a pound of fish that I had to throw out! I decided to put it in a baggie and return it to the store. Today, my husband and I brought the ugly fish back and was told that that part of the fish is edible, it just "tastes stronger." Well, considering it's full of blood I would imagine so. The saleswoman also told me that since they pay for that part of the fish I had to also. She said they would have cut it off if we had asked. I told her the order had been called in and I never got to see the fish. I said I should have been asked if I wanted it cut off. Her reply was that they can't know what every customer wants. Are you kidding me?! I drop almost $100 in your store and this is how I get treated? I am a huge proponent of shopping locally and supporting "the little guy," but you can bet one thing - I'll be going back to the fish department at the grocery store; at least there if something isn't right you get your money back - and usually an apology along with it. I purchased Jumbo Texas Gulf Shrimp, 12 Maryland "Blue" Oysters and 12 clams, and I just moved from the DC/MD/VA area so I know fresh seafood. I shucked the oysters myself. Can I say how impressed I am with not only the quality of their seafood, but the service and the attention to detail. These people know what the hell they're doing. I'm blessed to live across the street and I will...be back. I've never visited the stand, but I can recommend going inside to make your purchase. Ron J. read more

I stopped by for the first time yesterday. When I walked in i was asked if I needed help. I told them I was never inside before. I did stop by the outdoor stand around the fair prices are cheap. And the stand food is good for the price. The lady showed me around in the store I bought veggie crab soup. Before I left I asked about oysters if the clean them and shuck. They do with a small price. I already placed my order to pick up next Saturday. I will become a regular. Awesome friendly service. read more

Wow. What an overpriced market for not so fresh fish. Went in to buy a salmon for dinner. Filets looked old so asked for a whole fish. 11 pounds $115 So I asked them to filet it. Took some time but then came back and said it was now$220. $105 to filet a fish??? They explained they already have filets out so premium is for fresh. Lol. Never heard of that. Then as I walked out the guy that cut up the fish opened the back foot with a cigarette in his mouth flipped me off and told me to F*** myself because I didn't take it. Lol. No wonder this place is going out of business and has such old product in coolers. Horrible Service. Hard to support small business that acts like this. read more

Worst customer service I have ever experienced. First time visit with plans to indulge. We were looking at the selection to see what was available. A woman asked if she could help and I answered ' we are looking around '. She replied it was nice of us to acknowledge her this time. ?? Never heard any greeting from any one ?? Initially we thought she was joking. But the nasty look and tone and the way she turned and walked abruptly away from us let us know not. First and last time here. read more
