    Turtle Sunday

We visited the UP over the long Labor Day weekend and stopped by this adorable ice cream shop & miniature golf establishment. I ordered a turtle sunday that days later I cannot get out of my head. The ice cream was the best I've ever had, the toppings were super fresh. I would 10/10 go back again!

Not sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. The bartender was friendly. The only redeeming food star was my daughter's Chicken Alfredo. We all liked that! However the rest of the entrées were a let down. My son's penne pasta with chicken lacked pesto and chicken. My wife's Caesar salad was in her words, "nothing special." My Greek salad with lemon vinaigrette had no lemon flavor whatsoever. My chicken may have been trying to identify as croutons. Yikes! Everyone's chicken portions were so small I'm not sure if they were for a toddler or a really small bird. Most of the food was a letdown. Drinks mioght be considered a redeeming factor and encouraged my review to push from a 2 star to a 3 star: Blueberry Tart Lager - liked it, I'd order it again Manistique Lager - exactly what you'd expect in a Vienna Lager by BJCP style standards I just wasn't feelin' it. Hazy IPA - was lackluster like a dusty old surfboard Blood Orange Seltzer - my risk-it-for-the-biscuit choice ...oddly satisfying. It tasted a little like a creamsicle. My wife's blackberry cider was on point. Send it to us trolls down in the lower peninsula. Kids enjoyed "homemade" root beer. All in all, we spent around $90. I expected more for lunch at that price point especially from place where they claim everything is made from scratch except the BBQ sauce and Caesar dressing.

Where do I even start? BEWARE OF BRANDON BROWN‼ The first time i walked into Moose Du Nord (so Day…read more1 of my experience), there was a younger girl working. My friend and I got drinks, and before even touching anything, she ASKED WHAT KIND OF MILK (like normal drink making businesses usually do) & she was very sweet and reminded us they also have cold foam, i asked her for oat milk due to me having a sensitivity with dairy (i am not lactose intolerant just to be clear, but whole milk makes me NAUSEOUS) Day one went perfectly fine with no issues at all. Day 2 I go in & Brandon Brown is working. I only know of him, because it's a small town and some people tend to stand out more than others, not always in a good way...anyways, i walk in and say hi. I am immediately dismissed/ignored and stared at for five whole minutes, while we were looking at the menu, because I was honestly taken aback by the blatant ignorance, and for no reason? We order the same thing as the day before, but I was distracted by the interaction between us and this person, so I forgot to ask for oat milk. He made the drinks iced instead of a frappe, but I wasn't upset, I let him help the man in line, and then politely said "we ordered these as frappes," and he remade them very efficiently, and we waited for our other friend that was ordering. The drink itself was delicious, so I didn't notice the whole milk until over half way in, because I tend to drink my beverages rather quickly. I felt nauseous, like I was about to throw up the entire drink, because he was too ignorant to even say hi or use this thing called customer service. In my experience with businesses that make drinks like that, I have ALWAYS been asked what kind of milk I prefer, he was not interested in caring about any of that, let alone even greeting the people walking in. That is not personality, that is pure ignorance, and if that's what him and his friends want to defend, I think that says A LOT about them ALL. We went back the next day, because there was a different girl working. SHE ASKED what kind of milk we wanted, BOTH OF US. We met up with two more friends and ordered pizza later that day, again, because we thought he wasn't working, otherwise I would have CANCELED our $70 order (large cheese sticks, large dill pickle pizza, and a medium gluten free chicken bacon ranch pizza), mind you the gluten free crust is a $6 up charge and the medium pizzas are like $20 already. I put our order in, ten minutes later, he walks out, and I immediately regret my order. We wait 40 minutes (told us it would be about 25). Brandon hands us our food, so again i'm thrown off because of our last interaction, and yes this is my fault, but I forgot to ask for extra marinara (not knowing that the cheese sticks didn't even come with any) and ranch. I hope everyone knows that I tried to contact the manager and/or owners to address this issue, just to get no answer or call back; and to find out that they actually EXCUSE AND ENCOURAGE this behavior, and he will be working there with his horrible attitude and customer service in the meantime, so I definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!

The bar tenders were friendly as well. You can buy cans to go, but be sure to check the dates they were canned if it's not currently on tap, so you don't get a beer that's 6+ months old and possibly sour (we got one like that, but they happily let us swap). Driftwood next door was also great, good flatbread selections.

They have everything I look for in a brewery - outdoor seating that's dog friendly, food handily available, and a solid beer menu. Our bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. Super helpful to mama as she tried to decide which beers to get in her flight. They actually have two outdoor seating areas - a nice patio just off the bar and a rooftop deck above the patio. We arrived too late to order from their kitchen but there's a pizza joint next door that looked like it had good stuff too. Overall, good experience, and I'd be happy to drive a half hour off the beaten path to visit again. My rating scale: 1 - Just don't 2 - You'll survive, but there are better choices close by 3 - Good choice if you're in the area 4 - I'd drive 30 minutes out of my way just to come here 5 - I'd try to convince my wife to drive an hour just to come here
