    Turtle Sunday

We visited the UP over the long Labor Day weekend and stopped by this adorable ice cream shop & miniature golf establishment. I ordered a turtle sunday that days later I cannot get out of my head. The ice cream was the best I've ever had, the toppings were super fresh. I would 10/10 go back again!

How have I never reviewed "pirate golf"?! We played here as kids when we'd come on family…read morevacations, and always had fun. We played a round on a recent trip here, and somehow our middle aged selves did much better than our tween to teen selves...either we acquired more mini golf skill over the years or the holes are easier...I'll go with the former! We had fun and enjoyed the nostalgia. This course does involve some stairs, so not an accessible course for anyone with mobility challenges. Pro tip...there is a hole where your ball can roll right off the edge into the water..,if it does that you'll need to walk back to the shop to get a new ball...there is no net or anything to catch the balls at the end of the little stream....so....have a buddy stand there to grab your ball out of the water quickly before it hits the big pond...part of the "adventure"!

We actually tried to go to a non-chain spot but alas, they were cash only and we didn't have cash. So, off to Pirate's Cove we went. What's not to love? Pirate's Cove offers a fun, challenging, and well maintained miniature golf course. We were there on a Friday and it was busy but not annoyingly so. We had to wait a short time at each hole for the folks in front of us (as did the folks behind us). But, again, nothing too lengthy and overall everything flowed rather well. The prices are pretty average in my experience and the service was friendly. Get to it!

What a blast! My friend came up to visit from downstate Michigan, and we were looking for something…read morefun and something outdoors to do. We decided to book an ATV adventure with Big Bear. It was money well spent. Big Bear provided sanitized helmets, goggles and bandanas to wear. We brought our own bandanas because we wanted to wear pink but I appreciated the extra effort on their behalf. They were very on top of COVID precautions. While we were waiting for our ride, the staff running the tubing adventures, were so efficient. They were unloading passengers and sanitizing the vans before loading another group, they were still moving quickly and intentionally. Our guide, Raph, was excellent, he explained everything very well, was kind and patient. It was very much appreciated because I had never driven a side by side before. Raph took us on some amazing trails, we stopped at Weber Lake and enjoyed the water and scenery. We made memories we'll never forget. I have a girls weekend planned in July and we have already reserved our spot for another adventure. Thanks Raph!

It was the most chaotic, stressful, dangerous thing we've done as a group. Do not do a rafting trip if you think you're going to have any time to enjoy the scenery, talk, or enjoy a family activity. The river was extra fast due to high water levels and there are constant obstacles to avoid. We are all lucky to have made it with only minor injuries. Way too many close calls. It was not just us that were not enjoying our time on the river. Every kayaker and tuber we encountered felt exactly the same way. Several said they'd been crying at times, it was so chaotic.

So I guess you could say the best part of the place is that it wasn't as busy as the other 2 nearby competitors. They also have go-karts, batting cages, etc which we did not try.

One of the strangest customer service experiences I've ever had. We went to the batting cage, and…read moreafter the machines ate our quarters, the medium speed cage worked outta nowhere for another guy. That machine then never stopped feeding baseballs, so we stepped in and started hitting. Shortly after that, a young guy who is apparently the batting attendant started being antagonistic towards us, saying he needed "to cut us off" and "you've had more than your fair share." We thought he was joking at first... nope. Keep in mind, 3 of his 5 other cages didn't work, and no one else was in line. We were the only ones there. We told him it's your problem your machine didn't stop - and better that someone actually hit them rather than the balls not getting used at all. He then blamed us for "draining the whole dang thing." He then demanded we leave two quarters on top of the machine and he came back around and approached us and took our two quarters saying "I think you guys owe me." and then walked off. Just an incredibly perplexing and angering experience. Kid thinks he's the county sheriff or something. Honestly just hilarious that he was on a power trip over 50 cents and due to his machines functioning like absolute crap. Maybe fix your batting machines before you start being extremely rude and condescending towards already paying customers. Guy was actually insane. Will never go back.
