And we got a hole in one on one of the hard holes so got a coupon for a free game! They sell soda, seltzers and candy in the shack. This was some retro fun and we really enjoyed it. Super laid back. Our family has enjoyed mini golf at Red Putter ever since we moved to Wisconsin in 2003 and we still like to go when we are visiting. Still a bargain at $5 per person (think it used to be $4) but cash only. You know you are going to have a good time when the tshirt worn by the guy giving you your putter and scorecard says "silently judging your mini golf skills"! Challenging but fun 18 holes of fun. Years ago there used to be a giant checker board but at least the giant rocker is still there. read more

My family and I went to this place over 5 years ago and the experience was so fun and memorable that my brother and I decided to come back a few weeks ago. The family who runs it were very kind to us and both my brother and I guessed the number of M&M's in a jar as part of one of their deals they have around the place. Absolutely outstanding mini-golf: a beautiful synthesis of thoughtful architecture and decorative whimsy, at the perfect level of challenge to accommodate both serious players and dilettantes. Furthermore, it is obviously lovingly maintained, old-school without looking old. All this delight for a mere four bucks per round. Best dollar-per-minute value in Door County, period. The guy who runs this place is the best. He let us start on the back nine since a gaggle of teenage girls had arrived just ahead of us. Then later after we wrapped up, he gave us some hints for the "guess the M&Ms" game, AND told us a hilarious joke. My sister and I loved this old school novelty type golf course. It's challenging and fun and has some tough puts, but most of all the family that owns it is friendly and funny and makes the whole experience worthwhile. Fun old-school course. Don't expect a lot of ridiculous over-the-top frills, but you do get the ball drawbridge over the water, a few multi-level holes, etc. Our kids had a blast and everyone we encountered was helpful and kind. I hate regular golf but love mini golf. Something about that token rotating windmill on the last hole pulls at my heart strings. I had an extreme desire for mini golf while in Door County on 4th of July weekend and this place happened to be across from our hotel. The owner is so nice, I wish he was my grandpa and he would open a mini golf course in my backyard. It was $4 a person to golf and he tipped us off and let us know our hotel had coupons - so it was $2 a person. They are practically paying you to play on their course. And if you play a second game - which we did, its a dollar off. The place was well maintained, the owner (who is their entire staff) is the sweetest, and its definitely worth the money. I would go as far as to say if I was shrunken down to munchen size ala Honey I Shrunk the kids, I would live on this mini golf course. Its that adorable. read more

This old man knows how to run a mini golf course, its "where the pros play". Each hole has a classic theme and every hole is fun (especially when ur brother's ball gets hit 5 times by the swinging log). Best 4 bucks I ever spent! The Red Putter - an institution! I just experienced Red Putter last week. As others have said, the price is right ($4 per game), the owner is so nice and the M&M guessing (one jar given away per week) is a challenge. My boyfriend's family has an annual Red Putter tournament where the winner gets bragging rights and gets to keep the M&M jar if someone wins it (they won one last year). I gotta say that the props are somewhat corny (the old lady in the shoe is "losing" her makeup and the badger on the 3rd hole is downright ugly) but it's still tons of fun. read more

Simply amazing putt putt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Owned and operated by the same gentleman for over 40 years, this is THE place to mini-golf in Door County. He is REALLY nice and open late- until 11pm I think. Friendly, CHEAP ($4) a round, and still challenging, you will NOT be disappointed. He offers candy for .50 and soda. He allows beer to be carried in. This is where the locals go, why pay more for crowded, crappy courses? You'll find it on the highway (42) north of Ephraim. We were staying next door at High Point Inn and heard people having a great time all weekend. Finally on our last night at 10:45pm, well past their close time, we stopped by just to see if we could squeeze in a quick 18. The owner was incredibly kind and welcoming. She allowed us a last play through even though they were closed, and we had a blast. Challenging course, fast greens, charming hole design, and a welcoming atmosphere. From the outside it doesn't have the flash and grandeur of Pirates Cove, but it has more charm, challenge, and fun by a long shot. Must stop spot for a trip in Door County. read more

This is the top attraction in Door County! The course was fun and just challenging enough. The layout was great as well. The golf course has a cute rustic feel, and each hole has a different little challenge & obstacle. The price was very competitive with anything else in the area. We relish the Red Putter so much that we are now taking a May vacation for "opening day" at the Red Putter! We play hooky from school to get up to Door County on May 1. No feelings of guilt--only opening day exhilaration! My son's birthday is a few days before opening day, and this vacation is his preferred birthday gift. He won the first-jar-of-the-year M & M s last May 1st. Not only is it a quaint and adorable throw-back to the 70s, but Bob and company are throwbacks to good ole fashioned fun and consideration. A couple of seasons ago, I found a $20 bill, lost on one of the holes. I brought it to Bob, and he found the owner and gave us a couple of free games! That is how it is at the Red Putter. Best mini golf in the area. We've tried them all and the red putter always ends up on top. The price is right, there are chances for free games and the owner is very nice. If you shoot under par you qualify for the pro tournament in August. This should be on everyone's list for Door County. read more

Of course I have a very special place in my heart for the Red Putter, considering my great aunt and uncle designed and built this place from scratch back in '74. It's no longer owned by my family but the new owner is wonderful (every review refers to him) and my grandmother worked for him for many years. The Red Putter is quaint and adorable like everyone says. It represents everything that is just great about Ephraim and "old school" door County. I loved coming as a grown up with my two sons. I know they will start to remember it just as fondly as I remember my times going there as a kid. You could see so many families having fun there. Just great. Yes, the greens are a bit worn and the whole place could use a good coat of paint and some weeding, but we had a great time! This is definitely an old-school mini golf experience, without any crazy pirate ships or rapids, but it's still challenging. It's larger and cooler than it appears from the road. There are several holes that are up a few steps and the trees and flower pots make for some nice scenery. It's not really stroller friendly because of the steps, but it's doable if you can haul your stroller up and down. It didn't stop us from wheeling our little ones around in the well-worn grass. Cash only, but there's an ATM right by the parking lot. The owner has a little basket of toys for kids at the end of the game - like at a dentist's office. Our five-year-old was beyond thrilled to get a little plastic slinky on top of playing mini-golf. We won two free games by getting a hole-in-one on holes 3 and 6, and received our coupons at the end of the game. I asked when they expire, and the old man said "Oh, I don't know, 40 or 50 years." Something tells me the Red Putter will indeed still be there 50 years from now. We'll definitely be back! read more

I don't even know where to start. This place is beyond adorable. When we got to Red Putter, and I asked if he accepted credit card, the owner chuckled and said, "No, but I take cash, or check, or you pay me later, or IOUs..." And so without even paying the ridiculously low price of $4 for a game, my girlfriend and I started playing. Shortly after we had started, the owner saw us taking pictures of each other on all the great little parts of the course (a badger, a wolf, a giant rocking chair) and actually came out of the booth to ask us if we wanted him to take our picture. He took several pictures and headed back in, but not before reminding us to try our best to get a hole-in-one on either hole 3 or 6, because if we did, we'd get a free game and wouldn't have to pay him at all. The course itself is sweet and simple. There are little rhymes on signs to tell you how to play each hole, and they're all pretty straightforward, but with little twists here and there. After we were done, we returned our clubs and balls to the owner, who told us he had one last job for him. We had to guess how many M&Ms were in the jar on the counter. Whoever gets closest gets the jar mailed to him. He told us he does it every week and has mailed it as far as Germany. Pretty much everything about this place can be summed up in this: when I was asking the owner about the course, he interrupted himself for a second and looked off into the parking lot. He said, "Sorry, one second, I have to wave. Those are my friends. They're all my friends." This place is excellent. read more

THIS is the BEST mini golf in Door County! It is the most creative! The place is run by this elfish, twinkly guy who was wearing a bowler's hat today! If you get a hole-in-one on either the third OR sixth hole, you get a FREE GAME! When I got a hole-in-one on the third hole, my husband and I were reallly loud and high-fived and it was like the manager just magically appeared out of nowhere with the bright red free game pass RIGHT AWAY and then disappeared suddenly too... I reallly loved the waterfalls and the little "elf village" and this tea party-type thing that was going on with the dolls and lady mannequin in the house by the front--there is also this GIGANTIC rocking horse towards the front of the establishment--he also has over-sized checker and chess games set up outside so you can hang out--at one point on the course you will find crayons on a stand and then on the next stand later on, there is chalk and a little board to draw on--perfect for kids that are waiting their turn (or me!) -- and the poems/riddles at each hole give you hints on how to play that hole--truly adorable - I have never laughed so much at a mini golf course!!! read more

The course is well worn, but has a thoughtful layout that elevates the amateur to professional (if there are any) players. Every year, they hold an annual mini golf championship that is a lot of fun to behold. The owner is a staple of friendliness and even offers up holes 3+6 that give you a free game if you get a hole-in-one. This isn't a commercial endeavor, but an excellent example of great mini golf in the area with a one-of-a-kind owner. It does get a little crowded sometimes, but well worth the wait. Every time my friends and I go to DC, we end up at Red Putter. The course is whimsical in the most adorable way, from the riddles at every hole to the props that accompany them. Don't let whimsy fool you though, because this is a course that will keep you guessing. It's 4 dollars a round, and you can win a free game if you get a hole in one on a couple of the holes. The man in the cute hat is always there and always friendly. They've got a tournament every year which includes some serious prize money and impressive scoring. This is technically a "pro mini golf course." The owner is very kind and offers rewards for different hole in ones and things like that. There are pro tournaments here, so don't be too hard on yourself you don't do too well. All the holes are relatively simple, buy still challenging. They sell lots of little snacks and refreshments of you feel snacky on the course. read more
