The water park was closed, and the batting cages and the arcade weren't things we did this time, so I have no idea about those. But we had a good time racing and putt-putting and play-playing. The mini golf course is actually really cool. You go over bridges, into caves, under water falls, and up and down stairs. It took us a good half hour to complete. The go-karts go around a small race track, and they can be kind of loud, but my older kid said he had lots of fun. He went around at least four times! It seems more fun to race when there's more people there. The playground is nothing spectacular. In fact, it's a little run down and janky. But that mattered not to my youngest, who played on the playground the whole time his older brother was racing on the go-kart track. I liked Adventure Island for my own reasons: Because there are old, hand-lettered signs everywhere. You don't see hand-lettering much anymore! But it's here, and it's spectacular. Got to love old-fashioned, handmade signs.

Our first impression was the park was on the smaller side. The layout is basically a circle so you can easily get from point A to point B. They do have a good amount of thrill rides but the waits were long. The loading process felt like it was longer than normal. There is not a lot of options for food and what we could find was your basic theme park food. It's fine but not anything extraordinary. It's a theme park so it can be expensive but I felt like what we paid for wasn't worth what we got out of the park. Not much touristy things to do if you plan to come to this park.... downtown is cool but there isn't really shopping... back to the park: this park is tucked behind some buildings and easy to miss if you are driving through. The structure is completely wooden and connected completely through bridges, tunnels, and monkey bars. There's a sign with rules and restrictions and beyond guardians and parents the playground is meant for 12 and under in age. I brought my sister in law and nephew after we grabbed lunch at the up north grill in town (only 5 minutes away so highly recommend for lunch) my nephew is almost 2 years old but there was still tons of interactive stuff for him to do which was unexpected based on the size of this huge castle themed park. There's about 5 different slides so age shouldn't restrict enjoying. The structure is very well built and laid out so, as adults we were for the most part able to maneuver it with our little guy. A bouncy tire contraption that reminded us of a bull was a win as well as a swing that allows an adult to swing with your baby which was SOOOO COOL. Better that just pushing because it adds safety and gives you a chance to do something enjoyable with your baby while making eye contact. Wyatt was all giggles. The park was busy when we visited but it never felt crowded because how it's designed. It's both 40 minutes from my sisters house in grayling but left enoug of an impression that she plans to take Wyatt with my brother this weekend again!

Thunderhawk Tuah! You know what - don't even spit on this thing!…read more Not as thrilling or as smooth as Raptor at Cedar Point or any number of B and M inverts but this Vekoma SLC (suspended looping coaster) wasn't the painful ordeal it's reputation led me to believe it would be. Thunderhawk looks great, especially reflected against the pond (Lake Michigan's Adventure? What is the name of this body of water?) and coasters are pretty slim pickings at this park so I'd rank it second best after the mighty Shivering Timbers. Fortunately for me I used my old trick of not putting my head on the headrest on the restraints I learned riding Corkscrew at Cedar Point years ago. I've since employed it on Rougarou, Kumba down at Busch Gardens Tampa and now Thunderhawk. If you have a steady enough neck it'll save you a lot of unnecessary headbanging on coasters with a reputation for it. With this defensive strategy I found Thunderhawk herky jerky but generally not painful. It only seemed especially rough to me in the barrel rolls - the double in line twists that take you upside down twice in a row. Thunderhawk was actually decently fun. The jerkiness took away from the sensation of speed. At less than 50 mph it doesn't feel like you're flying through the course anyway but the jerkiness takes away something of that wonderful whooshing sensation you can get from a coaster. I only rode Thunderhawk once but I wouldn't minded another ride or two.

It was honestly a little jerky for a roller coaster of its size and thrill. But considering the amusement park it was at, it's not that surprising. It was definitely one of the most intense roller coasters I've ever been on. I've been on roller coasters like it but I think the jerkiness probably made it more intense. But it would like spin us left but jerk us in the right direction and the do an upside down turn all within a couple seconds and I'm not sure if it was because of all the twists and turns or the jerkiness but it was hard to pace my neck for what was coming next. My dads neck was hurt afterwards. He didn't like it and he likes roller coasters. He looked horrified in the picture it took of us.

Verlander punched his ticket out of purgatory to win a title with the cheatin' Astros. But poor old Miguel Cabrera was stuck being a future Hall of Famer languishing with the damn Bad News Bears. That's kind of how it seems having a roller coaster like Shivering Timbers at a park like Michigan's Adventure. This ride is a masterpiece! Hill after hill after hill with each crest delivering delicious, diabolical airtime. There's a bad pothole at the bottom of the second hill but beyond that it's not that rough for a wooden coaster of its size. It's big and long, cutting an imposing figure over the parking lot. The logo might even be more handsome than the coaster itself. No other ride in the park had guests so hyped. One little girl returning to the station was absolutely shook by its intensity. Like her whole body was vibrating and it seemed like she was trying to decide if she really liked what she had just experienced or if it was just too much. Then there was the dude in the Holiday World hat, Six Flags Great America shirt and Kings Island fanny pack shamelessly reveling in coaster freak nerdiness, no doubt marathoning this airtime machine. When Corkscrew returned to the station and the ride mc gave the classic "Welcome back, riders! How was your ride on Corkscrew?" my trainload barely managed a peep. The same call and response routine on Shivering Timbers brought some serious decibels and enthusiasm. I knew ST delivered plenty of airtime but I was taken a bit by surprise by how intense the helix is at the end. Absolutely wild! I rode Shivering Timbers twice on my recent trip to MA, once near the back and once in the front row and it delivered thrilling, intense rides both times. I kept my hands up the whole time in the front row and I don't know if I'd do that again. My noggin did get a bit rattled from that; hands up in the front row was rougher than hands down near the rear of the train. After some time in the water park I returned to Shivering Timbers hoping to ride at least two or three more times. Unfortunately this park's signature attraction (for coaster lovers at least) was experiencing some downtime so I hopped on some lame midway ride and hightailed it out of the park as I had a long way north to drive to join some friends for camping before sunset. (Can't miss those Lake Michigan sunsets!) As I drove my way out of the Michigan's Adventure parking lot I saw the mighty Shivering Timbers thundering its way through its course packed with riders again. D'oh! Can't win em all, I guess. I'm at least glad I got to ride ST twice. If Michigan's Adventure didn't have this ride I probably wouldn't have even bothered with this park, and that's coming from a lifelong Michigander with a soft spot for his home state.

I've loved roller coasters since I was tall enough to ride them. This is the ONLY coaster I have hated. We rode every ride in the park then rode shivering timbers before riding the others a second time. Well, it ended up being our last ride. All of us including our 13 year old had to leave and went straight home after this one. It isnt scary. It doesn't do anything more than most wooden coasters by way of thrill..what it does do, though, is slam your body all over the place, whip your head and neck around while providing no neck support. It comes off the tracks and comes back down with a spine cracking thud over and over and over. Had I been able to, I would have gotten off halfway through. This is poorly engineered and I am shocked the park hasn't been sued by someone more litigious than I for back and neck injuries over this ride.

Everything looks like it's falling apart. The go-karts are slow and sputter along like old jalopies. They must have had the same ones for over 40 years, they definitely appear as such. The batting cages don't work anymore, either. It just isn't what it was in the 90's or 00's...the owners have apparently just been running the place into the ground over the last 10 years trying to soak every dollar out of it before retiring and selling it off. It has really taken a dive over the last few. It's not worth coming here until new management takes over and revamps everything. Anyone giving a 3-star or higher review of this park is either a bot or completely clueless.
