So far, so good. Thanks to Groupon I purchased a 20-pack class card for $79. That's $3.95 a class! Which, if you're a fellow yogi, is a great deal. Or if you want to be a yogi. I first tried the whole Bikram/Hot Yoga thing last summer and liked it. But, it's so darn expensive and I am a starving artist, so I didn't keep up with it. Lo and behold, I get an e-mail with this offer and decide to go for it. I've only taken 2 classes so far, but I like this studio a lot. It's not Bikram, so don't come here expecting the 26 poses routine. I've had two different instructors and they both do similar postures/poses, some of which you will do in Bikram. The room is still hot, though I feel as though I've sweat much more at other studios. Maybe the other studios it was too hot? I'm not sure the reason. The studio space is small, which I actually prefer. I feel like yoga should be done in smaller group settings. The instructors all seem nice and welcoming (there were a few instructors in today's 9:30am class) and I enjoyed it better than Bikram. I was once yelled at for taking a water break when it wasn't an official water break time. Excuse me, it's 100 degrees in here - if I need some aqua, I'm gonna have some aqua. I didn't get that here, they encourage you to do what you need to do in order to have a good yoga practice. I am also prone to migraines, and am asthmatic so I might need to drink more water than others. If you need a break, child's pose or Shavasana are the poses you should lay in to get back to your breathing and to relax for a few moments/minutes. Sitting here still waiting for them to confirm that I can attend one of their classes from this last Saturday. Terrible customer service. If you're coming with a Groupon, they will quickly answer you to get your voucher number, but their site won't allow you to reserve a spot in their class. This leaves you with the option to call - but they never answer calls nor return voicemails, or email which will have you see the days come and go with no response from the studio. Groupon had to reimburse me because of their lack of professionalism. read more

Yoga oasis is amazing. The owners are amazing and get to know all of their clients on a personal level. The people that attend the classes are all helpful and friendly. They make everyone feel as they belong, from beginners to advanced yogis. The heat, which is usually set at around 120 feels amazing on my somewhat wounded body. Yoga oasis is my second home. I practice hot yoga seven days a week sometime twice a day! I decide to try hot yoga for just one week,best money i have ever spend on myself, I saw results before my week end,so i sign up for six month unlimited again best money i have ever spend. I've been doing ultramarathons/marathons, tris, etc. for almost 20 years and have actively professed to hate yoga through this period--every time I would be sidelined, I'd have a well-intentioned PT say "have you tried yoga?" , I would grumble, go to one or two classes, feel like every minute was torture, and then never do it again for years. I tried Bikram's hot yoga maybe 3x and found it to be similarly distasteful, maybe because I tried it in Park Slope and well, you know. Just to make the point--yoga is NOT my thing. Anyway, I decided to give Yoga Oasis a try because my sister is into yoga and there was an amazing 10 pack deal on groupon for $40. It is tucked in a corner next to Orange Crush in Woodbury. The space is small but has a calming feel. When you enter there is a small fridge of coconut water and ionized water, also some high-end yoga merch (towels, clothing). The yoga room can comfortably fit maybe 10-15 people, it has subdued, earthy tones, a small shrine-like area along the wall. Behind the yoga room is a tight dressing area, bathroom, and one shower. No towels are provided or mats--you can rent them. Our first "beginner yoga" class was with the owner, Mary Grace. This definitely was not an absolute beginner class, FYI. The people taking the class seemed to be mostly regulars and one had something like 2,000 classes under her belt. But Mary Grace was clearly very knowledgable and adept, her personality is energetic and off-beat, the class definitely went by quicker than most, she offered some individualized help for me because I was lost a few times. It is over 100 degrees so you will sweat quite a lot after 75-90 minutes, even in the less intense classes. After the 10-class pass expired and I also tried Yoga Flow 1/2 (which is very similar to beginning yoga--but I need to stay at beginning for quite some time), I realized the miraculous--that I actually started to like it and even look forward to it! I really loved Lisa's class--she was so helpful to those looking for technique tips. Long story short, they changed my mind about yoga entirely, and I signed up for 20 more classes. There seems to be a schedule to suit a variety of needs except those who like to get in a workout before their commute. Only a few 7-8 AM, no 6-7, but they do have 8-9:15PM for those getting in late. read more

I really love how this studio uses infrared heat but there class times are not great for me. I wish they would add another class between 11:30-1:30 or have some 7 o'clock classes instead of the 6 o'clocks. read more

I love this studio. I've been practicing for many years--but don't want to put off beginners who find a welcome and excellent instruction here---and I've returned to Yoga Oasis over and over again, finding the yoga the most satisfying and the owners/instructors adept/expert, professional, devotional (but not in a pious icky way), knowledgeable in nutrition, physiology, everything you used to be able to expect in a teacher, before training certificates were churned out for $, not practice hours AND capability. Yes, the classes/heat can be challenging but you can fall asleep, if you need to, or practice like an Olympian and no one will judge or bother you. read more

Yoga Oasis is a great place to practice yoga, the have many teachers and each teacher has a unique way of practicing. It is a comfortable, friendly environment for both beginners and advanced students. The classes are challenging and are great way to relive stress, heal and get in shape. I really enjoyed this yoga studio, it was very different from what I am use to. Both instructors that I took class with were great. The first one had more of a soft and gentle approach but still lead us with strength in the practice. The second one was much more intense with more advanced poses, I loved this because it challenged me to get out of my comfort zone and try new things even if I wasn't strong in that area. I wish I could have experienced more classes while I was in New York but I guess I'll have to save it for next time. If you like teachers who mix up the flows this is the place to go. Mary is the owner and has lots of positive energy encouraging the breath when we hit a stressful part of the practice. Very welcoming people with a very clean studio. I go to the Saturday classes and Laura is just great! I'm not too much of a yoga buff, but after 90 minutes, feels like I got a deep tissue massage. My only complaint is I wish it was a bigger studio. It wasn't too close feeling like a can of sardines...but you get the picture. read more

OK, went here last night and I had Nicole as my instructor. She was really sweet, kinda let us do our own thing, would adjust as necessary (mainly me lol) but mostly remained upbeat, positive and forced me to take to practice to a different level. I love taking classes with different instructors, you get a different experience and insight into practice every time. I didn't feel like this was as good of a workout, not sure if the room wasn't as hot or what but I didn't feel as flexible and engergized afterwards. Still, place is great. It's very close to my work so I can get there in a jiff. They are having a holiday promo right now- $600 for 6months and $1,000 for the year- which is a great deal. Did a week intro, but only went twice. Nice studio, very clean. Wood floors which was a first for me. You have to walk through the studio to get to the changing area. They should not call it Bikram since they do not follow the dialogue, the teachers know yoga, and they seem to care about what they are doing. This is a great yoga studio - I've been going on and off for years, and the instructors here are really the high point. They're extremely helpful to newcomers that need assistance and create a judgement free atmosphere. I came one busy sunday when there was no room and the teacher came in and made everyone adjust to make room. It's typically not too crowded though, especially evenings during the week. You may get some more spirituality here than other studios - it's decorated very Eastern themed and some instructors sprinkle it into classes. Depending on your taste you can enjoy or ignore that part, because at the end of the day the classes are a great workout (I do always feel uplifted and "spiritually refreshed" after classes too though!). One thing to keep in mind is that this is hot yoga with elements of the Bikram program, but is not the Bikram system - each class has variations. read more

I understood the asanas and how they contribute to better overall health, not just in a muscular fitness perspective. Best of all, I have learned how to pass this great knowledge onto others. A challenging yoga class in a heated room. It was a little boring, with a lot of repeating of the holding poses. I am used to California studios that do a lot of vinyasa flow. I think I took a class with the owner and another guy. It seemed like they were trying to show off all of the poses they knew that were impossible for us to do. And they kept telling us that we were doing it all wrong. That is not supposed to happen in yoga . I was very disappointed in the instruction in this studio. Although the lady at the front desk was very nice, these classes do not follow the spirit of yoga. read more

I lovethis studio. THey do not do traditional Bikram yoga but they have many poses which ar based on Bikram and they throw alot of Vinyasa type poses . It is a good change if you do a strict Bikram practice. The room is very well heated and you definitely get a good workout with all the teachers. I have learned a great deal while at this studio. All teachers are warm and friendly. The place is clean . The yoga room is on the smaller side but since I have been there it was never overly crowded. Parking is plentiful.
