Checked out this place with friends specifically for their aerial yoga class. We were the only first timers there; everyone else has been before. Can't tell if the instructor modified the pace of the class for us or if it's typical for the class to go from one pose to another. The instructor had to help us a lot and we skipped completing some poses fully so the class could move on but it was quite intimidating to be in a full class where people could easily go into the poses and we were struggling... the tone was a lot more zen than upbeat so at times it felt inappropriate to laugh even though you can't help but let out some chuckles when you know you/your friends are being a little ridiculous and just not getting the hang of it. We ended off the session with an upside down pose. While the instructor taught us how to get into the pose, they didn't teach how to get out of it yet and I was stuck upside down for quite a while while they were helping out my friends. Ended up leaving the session feeling very sick as I was hanging upside down for longer than I had liked. I'm glad I tried it but it's probably not a sport that's for me. If you're new, be sure to let the instructor know right off so they can get you in a good spot and so they can actively watch and correct you throughout the session. read more

I recently started to come here for their Saturday TRX class using my monthly classpass subscription. It is an awesome class that is great for toning all parts of your body. The instructor, James, is attentive to all and makes sure we get our posture and positions right to get the most out of our workout. The classes are smaller for the TRX classes that I have went so far - about 5 to 7 people each class, which works out great. And a lot of the people who go there seems to be regulars and know each other quite well already and they are super friendly. A great location to workout in a neighborhood right by coquitlam center and with lots of parking. Definitely worth a try! read more

PROs - Free mats to borrow! but if you like yours with heavy padding, bring your own and arrive early to get one. - Free blocks and straps to borrow - Aerial yoga (only other one I know is at Steve Nash downtown) - Free herbal tea - Lovely lounge - Teachers that make an effort to remember your name - Great location, walking distance to Coquitlam Centre station and mall - Online schedule where you can reserve your spot - Plenty of parking - Near food outlets, in case you need to grab a bite before or after class CONs - Two washrooms are the same two change rooms. This is rarely a problem. The teachers are understanding and will wait if it gets busy. One of the washrooms is inside the studio and the teachers do encourage you to use it if you need to so you can stay present for the rest of the practice. And for the details... This is one of my favourite yoga studios and it's really because of the people and teachers. I say that confidently because I have tried several studios around the Lower Mainland and am grateful to my company's health benefits for paying for a fix number of drop-in classes a week. So far it's the only studio that I keep coming back to, but I continue to exploring others still for my curiosity. The teachers all really make an effort to learn your name and actually do continue to remember you after been to several classes. The herbal tea is a great socializer, encouraging students to stay for a few minutes to enjoy a brew and chat. Because of this extra little touch, this studio feels more like a community than any other studio I've been to so far. It's one of the big reasons I keep coming back. Some of my favourite teachers are Kathleen Smith and Nicole Whitman, who is also a lululemon ambassador. I have not had a chance to take classes with all the teachers at the studio yet, so there are probably other great teachers. The free mats to borrow is really awesome. It's not the top mat on the market, but on the days where you forget your mat and you get angry at yourself for doing so, you can still come to class and find a stress relief because of the free mat to borrow. It has saved me a few times from getting mad at myself from forgetting a mat, and saved me from missing classes. Aerial yoga is a unique style of yoga that I love. Gentle and Level I is very akin to a Yin type class where you hold poses for several breaths and gives you a deeper stretch in some typical asanas than on a mat. The Aerial silk hammock is not a gimmick, pretty much every pose I was shown has a equivalent mat pose that I recognize. The silk (at least in a beginner's class) really aids a beginner like a stretching strap can, but also better because I can really push myself on some balancing pose, but feel confident that I can catch myself on the silk if I go too far. Hanging upside down gives you a good spinal decompression as well. I recommend other yogis to give this Aerial yoga a try if they have done at least 5 yoga classes. It challenged me because it actually scared me for the first time going upside down. Now having done 5 classes now, I'm starting to relax into it and learning to trust myself. I don't know how long they will have it. The studio uses the Mind&Body scheduler. Pro tip is to reserve a hammock if you're taking an Aerial class to make sure there's space. Please remember to cancel it if you end up bailing so others can attend. The location is convenient because it's walking distance from Coquitlam Station since I don't drive. It's nice that it's near restaurants so I can get food before or after a class. It's dangerously close to the mall because I'll walk by the Lululemon store on the way to class; however there's a T&T in there so it's convenient to pick up groceries on the way home after class. read more

Amazing Teachers in a variety of difficulties, I love the soft aerial classes to improve my intense back pain and the more difficult 2/3 classes are great to improve upper body strength, but with the safety of the hammock I am able to push myself further without feeling uncomfortable or unsafe. If you are curious I HEARTILY recommend it. read more

They are a wonderful studio that offers a really great selection of teaching styles and classes. Their times are also really good. I also think, as far as studios go, they have really reasonable prices. I wish they had more classes in the early morning, but I know that's not for everyone. read more

I have tried out several yoga studios in the Coquitlam area and Yoga Generation is by far my favourite. The owners are friendly, the studio is clean and inviting, and the teachers are skilled and fun (try out a class with Leo - his classes are playful, challenging, and different every time!). I like the aerial yoga classes - it's really neat to do savasana while cocooned in fabric! I prefer the more challenging poses that the teachers introduce in aerial, but I would imagine that this type of yoga would be great for people with back issues, as the hammock supports you as you move! It seems like the studio caters to yogis of all experience levels, as I've seen first time yoga students all the way up to advanced yogis. Its been a year since I was forced to find a new yoga studio 'home' in Coquitlam. After some initial adjustments to a new space, I would now say that Prestonne and Nicole are two of the best yoga teachers I have ever had (and there've been MANY). They both keep things fresh, interesting and challenging for those of us who do 3-5 classes a week. Of course the other practitioners there are also very good. The studio is clean, comfortable and I LOVE that I don't need to constantly pre-book my classes to be able to attend. Very convenient! :) read more

Not a positive experience overall unfortunately. Had a Groupon deal for a particular Yoga that is only offered for 2 or 3 single sessions every week, so I ended up missing out on almost half of what I had paid for. Spoke to the owner Nicole explaining my university courses coincided with all of those days and asked if she could honour the ones left now that school term was over. She chose to turn me down and I was left feeling like I was asking for a favour. This is after I also got my brother his first Yoga membership and having officially referred them a new customer. The whole thing left a bitter taste in my mouth though I it could have easily been handled better. Not Recommended. read more

Yoga Generation is the place to be if you're looking to improve your flexibility, have a more zen-like state of mind, or get in a great workout. They have a multitude of classes for those who want to explore yoga with a hammock or you can stick with the more traditional style using simply your body and a mat. I love the energy and positive attitude all the teachers bring. You walk into the studio and there is always a new message on the chalkboard and ready-made tea to get you in the mood before your practice. The studio offers a warm, comforting feel and I really can't complain about the changes in my body...who doesn't want to be more toned and flexible? I've been to many yoga places and this is the best. The classes are fun, never too crowded and the instructors takes time to help correct your poses when anyone needs help. The studio is clean and the atomsphere is welcoming. Highly recommend it! read more
