It's a nice studio with nice ambiance, but I found it a little difficult to see what the instructor was doing since I wasn't up front. I think I still prefer yoga studios with mirrors. In addition, I prefer "hot" yoga. The instructor I had that taught yin yoga with sound bath is really nice and attentive, but she said it was her last class that day and will be teaching at other y yoga locations further from me. So this review is based on the studio itself.

I could do without the carpet...but the room is still very airy and roomy. And most importantly...peaceful. One of the things that sets Semperviva apart from other yoga studios is the instructors - they really understand the practice, and make yoga fun! There are many instructors for my varying moods. I live in Yaletown and it would be so easy to just walk to one of the many studios in my hood, but the drive across the bridge is worth it! Namaste.

Applause to their sale and marketing team for this deal it really draws people In. I already have convinced numerous friends to join because I am so impressed by everything this studio has to offer So far I have been to about 25 classes at the sea centre and kits beach location. Every class I have been to, is different- I have been to mostly Hatha classes and every session, even with the same teacher is totally unique! This is fabulous because it keeps my body guessing, works new muscle groups, and allows me to always be challenged. I have been a member at other more corporate yoga studios in vancouver before and I find their classes are all the same of each type of yoga. Sea Centre is by far the most gorgeous location- 180 degree views of the harbour in Granville island. So relaxing and rejuvenating- I always leave feeling like I just went on vacation. It's addictive. The studios themselves are non pretentious- I have found visiting other more corporate yoga companies in vancouver (not naming names!) that they can be TOO corporate.. Not very authentic or welcoming. I am happy to say I am now a semperviva client for life! Great job guys :)

The staff was friendly. They seemed to be a little lax on people not arriving the ten minutes early as people were filing in up to the start of the class. I have been a member of Oxygen in other cities so I am comparing my experience at this location to Victoria and Kelowna. The good first: the instructor was clear and had a plan for the class. She adjusted on the fly to the time remaining. She also made sure to only have exercises that worked with the room and equipment. All equipment is included at the studio except for yoga mats: weights, bands, knee pads, disinfectant spray, face towels. Staff was nice. There are showers. Not sure if there are amenities in the showers but I did see some spray deodorants. Sound system worked well. Studio is mirrored to check your form and view the instructor. There are lockers and hooks in the change room for storage. Members seem to know each other and chat. Location is good. The bad: studio is super tiny. The studio is therefore incredibly crowded and there is no way you would be able to do a lot of the moves that other Oxygen locations do in the HIT class and other cardio classes. There is a pillar in the middle of the studio obstructing view of the instructor. Likewise, I think it's difficult for the instructor to view everyone, which means it's hard for them to see incorrect forms. Perhaps due the studio being tiny and everyone being crammed together, you can smell more odors than at other locations. I guess there was ok air conditioning because the room was not very hot? during the class. The layout to the equipment room is weird and there isn't good traffic flow. There are no cubbies to store belongings in the studio room. The entryway/lobby is also very small so you really are forced to wait outside, potentially in the cold and rain. The change room is small and a bit weird with plastic doors for the toilets and showers. I appreciate they are trying to maximize the space, but the quality of the finishes is very cheap. Beyond this, the studio floor was extremely hard, so much so that I realized when I went home that I had visible scrapes and road rash on my elbows from doing commandos. I see now why they have kneepads available, but I'm not sure why they wouldn't just redo the floor or put a layer of padding on it. It was very strange. Overall, although I love Oxygen, I would probably want to shop around and try the west end location as well as other general fitness studios before committing to a membership here.

I e mailed the studio yesterday and got a respond immediately(!!!) , yes i can drop in , it's 25$ cash or check only and Matt rental would be 2$, Saturday7.30 to 9am. Great my hotel is one mile down the road so here I go. Veronica opened the door at about 7.15 am and welcomed me warmly, all the other students seemed nice also. At the beginning of the practice she just sat us down and let is close our eyes told us to reflect on our physical, emotional and mental body, this is not traditional and I loved it , for me it took away this competition feeling Ashtanga can sometimes have. Then we started moving through primary , count in Sanskrit in a very even pace , it was just what it should be , moving with breath! Veronica frequently reminded us to watch our knees and breath and also where the drishti is. Quite a few people stopped at their personal point of Primary and went to the back of the room to do finishing. Veronica led us also through rest , that's not traditionally done in Ashtanga either , I appreciated it so much it was so much easier to not have the mind go wander with her guidance. I would love to do a Mysore class with her because the assists that i got during LED were very good. If you like Ashtanga Yoga you should treat yourself, I hope I can come back one day!

We're all quite familiar with many of the upsetting aspects of our planet, I prefer to leave them at the door while hoping to relax and restore my faculties. Swearing, phone use and reading mystical sayings from a laptop during a facilitation were things I have not experienced before from a teacher and I do not prefer them. Tiaga Prem barely moved himself as he dictated our movements, the dismissive 'and keep doing that for a bit,' before picking up his phone again There were times when music was being chosen and changed, I understand, perhaps even time checking, but I think we can all identify at this point what it looks like when someone is reading an email, an article, text message or fb post vs. quickly checking the time or swiping and changing a song. This inattention did not have me feeling safe to enter a vulnerable, meditative state during this class and I will not return. A person gets much better guidance from a free youtube video.

I just tried a Dharma class and it was intense in ways that I didn't expect from a Hatha class. The teachers are wonderful and it's a great way for me to get out of my head by being in class. There is chanting and for me, this is a different way for me to express myself and release. Thank you for a great experience!

Change rooms do have showers and many benches and coat hooks. There are two studios here, one for yoga and one for aerial silk classes. The yoga one is actually quite large for downtown and has wooden beams and can be heated with infrared. I took the lunchtime class with Victoria who is a legit yogi! The class was more on the serious yoga side rather than yoga for fitness sake. We started with a couple breathing exercises and then we moved into poses, which were performed in sets of two. Even though this wasn't "flow", it was actually fairly challenging to hold the poses in this sequence and there were many I had never tried. Victoria came around and corrected people's form, which was super helpful. She also demonstrated every move. I would like to come back and try the aerial yoga class.
