Great experience in the Hatha class. The facility was very clean and with showers and a locker room with programmable locks. First visit they provided us free towel usage. Just came back from a late night yin session at Modo on the west side at Jericho Village. I've frequented the Modo in the East Van location many times but this one felt cozier, and I thoroughly enjoyed the class. My instructor, Haley, this evening was communicative, calming, reassuring, and provided assistance if asked. The yin class wasn't too hot, and my whole body feels relaxed but like my muscles got a good stretch too. There was ample parking, granted it was an 8pm class on a Sunday evening. Not sure how 5PM would look, as I imagine the parking lot is quite full. The whole registering and checking in was a breeze and the walk through of the place was helpful. Now I'm excited to go back and take one of their hot Modo classes. PS. Their website says if you bike to the studio, you get a free mat rental ;) read more

Modo yoga is one of my favourite yoga studios in the west side of Vancouver. I love feeling my body melt in the heated studio. I also love feeling my flexibility progress over time. I would go there everyday, if I could. I like seeing the same people every practice, and progressing as a group. The facilities and teachers at Modo are world-class. I'm so excited for outdoor classes this summer! I highly recommend buying a monthly unlimited membership. Namaste. read more

I love attending yoga classes at Moksha! I tried one Bikram class, and upon recommendation of my friend Evan, I tried a class here and I love it. I have been going ever since for their Friday Karma class regularly over the last couple of months. I have also attended a few of their regular classes, through the Birthday promotion and the Groupon they had on last year. I really enjoy their style of yoga. The staff are always friendly, nice, and welcoming, which is great because it can be daunting for new guests. Their change rooms and the studio itself is very clean. Shoes are not allowed past the front reception, which I had to get used to. Mats, towels, and bottles can be rented for $2 per use. For beginners, I would invest in a cheap mat and you can even get away with using a beach towel on top (although not recommended). I like the liquid soap they have in the bathrooms, and can appreciate the eco-friendliness of the studio as they use hand towels instead of paper towels. They have lockers and can provide you a lock, but most people just store their items on the hooks or cubbies. When class is in session, they do lock the front door. If you're new to hot yoga or the Moksha studio in general, I highly recommend attending their Friday Karma class. It is every Friday at 9 pm, and costs a minimum donation of $5 that goes to the charity of their choice. Laura is usually the instructor and she is great. The class could be challenging for a beginner but Laura will pay special attention to them to ensure that they can handle it. She also offers variations of the poses to suit skill levels for everyone in the class. I have also attended Moksha with live music and Moksha Flow with music. All instructors were super nice, although some run a less difficult class compared to others. I do love the feel of practicing with live music - the guitar and soothing singing is just perfect. Moksha Flow was definitely a challenge for me, but as always, a great workout. I might say I am even addicted. I hate missing my weekly hot yoga class - although I really should be going more often. This is my favorite yoga studio in Vancouver. They only offer hot yoga classes, so be prepared to sweat and sweat a lot! Though it's a small studio, they make the most of the space they have. Their yoga room has enough room for about 20 people. I've always found the studio to be immacutely clean at the start of each class - you can see they take pride in their facilities. The mens' changing room is cozy, but has everything you might need. There are little nooks and crannies along one of the walls for you to stash your towel and change of clothes, as well as a couple benches on either side. They have two showers and I've found other yogis are quite considerate when using them. You never have to wait long nor will you find them filthy dirty. I've also never had a problem with my valuables going missing during a class, but would advise that you leave these in your car just in case. They have really nice smelling liquid soap and shampoo in the showers which just make the experience that much better after a long class. Speaking of parking, there's more than enough, but you should park on the No Frills level or lower as they have 2-3 hour spots. On the same level as Moksha there are numerous signs warning that your car could be towed if you overstay your welcome. Better safe than sorry. Lots of street parking in the neighborhood as well if you prefer. As for the classes themselves, my go-to is the Karma class. It's an entry by donation class(min $5) held on Friday evenings. Mat/towel rental is an extra $1 or $2 each. Money raised goes towards a charity of their choice. This class is almost always full, but the instructors are always excellent, and it's a really good way to unwind after a stressful week at work. For a lot of the poses they provide several alternatives - if you want to take it easier or challenge yourself etc. The instructors are gentle and caring and will adjust you with your permission to the correct posture. Regular classes will run you around $20 unless you purchase a monthly or multi-visit pass. Yes it's a little steep, but it is comparable to other yoga studios in Vancouver. Overall, I would highly recommend paying Moksha a visit. read more

This studio is amazing! I have tried "other" forms of hot yoga and found them militant and not relaxing at all. Moksha can be both gentle and powerful at the same time...which is amazing. The teachers are both instructive (which was good when I was a beginner) and challenging to those who have become regulars. If you have tried hot yoga before and did not like...TRY THIS! Start off with a Moksha Mild class, and then experiment with others. If you have never tried hot yoga or yoga in general...do not be afraid...it really is for everyone!! read more

I've been going here for a year now and it is great! We came for the first time using a living social deal, after we had been a little pissed off by Bikrams class card expiry date policy. From out first class, we felt at home. The instructors are all great, and while still a great workout, it's not as 'hardcore' as Bikrams... A truly positive pace of warmth, encouragement, and top quality teaching. Moksha Van offers an extensive collection of classes, paced nicely throughout the day, in a clean, comfortable studio. Although the environs are superb, what most impressed me about this studio were the teaching staff: they truly are amongst the most technically observant instructors I have ever worked with. Instructors learned my name quickly, were extremely considerate to me (I'm transgender), and I quickly found myself purchasing a regular membership. In a city of come and go yoga experts, Moksha is a truly precious and reliable studio. I highly recommend it. I really appreciate the very diverse group of people here -- from professional athletes, to older women looking to create balance and energy in their later years, to the more typical Kits yoga-girls full of big smiles and healthy recipes. It's a friendly, non-judgmental space. I also especially like the excellent balance between athleticism and spirituality in the moksha style. Some studios I've been to -- in my opinion -- were too 'mystical' (read, sanctimonious), and placed a heavy-handed emphasis on sermonising and preaching, with a very soft sort of yoga technique. Others were far too boot-camp militant: yelling, shouting, aggressive flows, with no acknowledgment of yoga's deeper dimensions. Moksha provides a vigorous, challenging mix of styles, while still bringing a very unpretentious spiritual outlook. With no pressure or condescension, I naturally found myself making significant changes in my life (waking up early, going vegetarian, laughing a great more) without being lectured at. The practice cultivated at moksha brought it out naturally. It's really an amazing studio: tasteful. clean, and eco-friendly in every possible way. read more

I first limped in there at age 50 with zero experience of yoga and a real disliking for heat. Hell, I thought my hot flashes where bad enough! My good friend insisted that I'd like it and she was so right. I LOVED it! After the first class I was hooked. It was so hard not to bolt from the heat of the room but with encouragement just to breathe and return to a relaxing pose like sleeping baby or savasana, I found over time I was building a solid practice. Two years later my chronic foot pain is gone, I've lost 30 weight, I'm stronger, more flexible and I've learned to pay attention to my breathe on and off the mat. The studio has ample parking (make sure you park on the lower level as there is an one hour time limit on the upper level) and though the mail reception area and changing room can get crowding, the hot room is beautiful with bamboo flooring, floor to ceiling mirrors, and gorgeous tiled wall with ambient lighting. Tip: the right side of the room is cooler. The classes vary from the relaxing yin to kick-ass power flow and they start from 6:00 am finishing as late as 10:30 pm. With the Moksha Yoga app you not only have the schedule and class type at your fingertips but you can book a class, too. The staff create a welcoming environment and are around before and after classes to answer any questions. Of the dozen or so teachers I've had, almost all have created a class with detailed verbal cues, suggested modifications and provided the oh so loved hands on adjustments. Sigh....... I'm so glad that I worked through my discomfort of the heat to become part of this amazing community. read more

Best hot yoga experience thus far in my exploration of hot yoga destinations around Vancouver! Friday by donation classes at 8pm are the greatest, but it's best to show up early because it fills up quickly... Maybe I shouldn't have shared that hehe! The classroom wasn't stanky like Bikram class was, in my experience, which makes for a better atmosphere. The approach was different than Bikram, in that the instructors were calm and encouraging, rather than being forceful and frankly, obnoxious. I like how with this Moksha, the series of poses have a nice flow. Despite dripping with sweat, the transitions felt right and the quality of guidance was super. They allow for alternatives for beginners to more advanced poses which is nice, too. After these classes, I definitely feel accomplished and healthy. Great place! read more

Moksha makes me happy. Moksha makes me zen. The only thing that Moksha doesn't do is make me painfully count to ten! ("Please let this pose be over! Just ten more seconds! Please let this pose be over!") I have done other hot yoga classes elsewhere, and for some reason - and I'm not sure exactly why - Moksha classes feel more relaxed, peaceful, and 'comfortable'. I have liked all the instructors, the space is nice, and although the change room really is rather small, I quite like the 'smallness' of this place. It feels comfortable....homey, maybe. Even though the 'Groupon' influx has caused slightly bigger classes, that won't last forever. Moksha, well done with the happy zen-y encouragement to 'glisten' (yeah right!) myself to a higher place. read more

Moksha was the first hot studio I tried and now it seems like when I try anything else it's a total bummer. The instructors are top notch. I didn't get one I didn't like. Karlito is one of the best yoga instructors I've ever had. He gets to know so many of the students and manages to go around and help plenty of people tweak their postures. Rose knew my name the second time I had a class with her! She also helped me with questions plenty of times after class. The women's change room's a little small for the amount of women that are in a busy class, but it's really well maintained. The style of yoga is great. It's not hostile like Bikram but it's a good way to push yourself if that's the kind of day you're having. The Hot Flow classes are fun but pretty tough if you've got any wrist issues like I do. read more

Recently renovated! This space is gorgeous with tons of parking and also near a bus stop. Mat and towel rentals are $2 for each but they offer really nice mats. They cram you in the studio so make sure you keep your mat in your taped off area. They told me the right side was a little cooler but its a hot class. Class pushed me and the instructor had plenty of modifications to stay steady or go further into practice. The dressing rooms are huge. No hair ties in the bathrooms- just rubber bands. read more

Great yoga studio if you want to come out drenched in sweat!!! Everytime I come to Vancouver, I always go to this studio because it's so close to my moms house. Their prices are normal priced for yoga studio (expensive lol) I think the mooksha class is a fake name made up for the series that bikram does. My favorite is the power flow because they play music and it's only an hour long (any longer in that hot room and you will melt) they also have kangen water which is always nice, the showers are great too. The only downside is it always smells like sweaty feet so hard to breathe in and out deep with that smell going up your nostrils. Oh and they are Canadian yogis so they're even nicer lol. read more

Finally a great hot yoga studio in kits! My type of yoga studio= relaxing atmosphere, friendly and helpful instructors during and after class, clean studio, and a good workout/meditative practice. The tendency to let my mind wander in yoga can be a challenge and I often find if the studio doesn't provide a good balance of meditation/breathing and a challenge, I can drift and leave feeling the same as going in. This studio has great instructors and my mind and body felt relaxed and energized(if that makes sense) after class. A $20 intro week and student prices too. read more

LOVE Moksha! I've done yoga lots of places, especially hot yoga, and Moksha is one of the best out there. The studio rarely smells bad (Bikram, take note!), and the instructors are really great. Moksha is more true to the concept of yoga than Bikram, in my opinion, much more about following the breath, and doing what YOUR body needs, rather than just struggling to get as far into every pose as possible. They always give modifications, and encourage you to stay within your own practice, to let go of competition and comparisons, and to take the yoga ideals into your life off the mat as well. I always leave class feeling so refreshed, a mental break as well as a physical challenge. read more

I love this place. I am not a yoga-gal. I am unfit, unco-ordinated and sweaty and yet the instructors make me feel like I am at home. The other participants are at all levels and the instructors are able to challenge them all. Even the truly bendy yogis seem to get a good workout by the end of class! I have been to other hot yoga places and liked the "hot" aspect of the exercise but disliked the militaristic poser-ville energy. I have been going to Moksha for a few weeks now and I am feeling better and healthier. This is a hidden gem in the world of yoga in Vancouver. read more

This is a little nice hot yoga place near UBC. The studio is clean, and the staff are very friendly. They offer their own style of yoga (Moksha) as well as some general classes. They also have lots of nice initiatives that I haven't seen in other studios, like in studio parties, offering free fruits after the classes, etc. read more

as a UBC student, this studio has been my fave for the past year!! they are in the Jericho village, just a short bus ride away from campus. i love that they offer a wide range of classes throughout the day!! i am able to practice yoga early morning or late at night so it doesn't interfere with my class schedule. very clean space as the yoga room gets mopped after each class. staff are always friendly too! read more

The top 5 reasons I love Moksha studio: 1. The amazing instructors who each bring their own unique flair to the classes and who create challenging yet gentle classes. 2. The mind and body focus. Moksha is different from other forms of hot yoga in that it focuses much more on your breath and the 'inner' aspects of one's practice 3. The studio space and location. Moksha is ideally located at the corner of West 4th Ave and Alma St. and is a beautiful little space with clean changerooms, reasonably priced towel and mat service, filtered water, complimentary apples as snacks, and a couch area for congregating after class. 4. The heat. I'm not normally a big hot yoga fan, but I find the heat at Moksha enjoyable, especially on cold days. It's so nice to come into the warm studio and sweat everything out. 5. The wonderful community of people who go to Moksha. There's a really lovely group of people who attend classes at Moksha and I'm so glad to have met some of them.
