Fuji Hiro…read morehasn't been on my radar at all over the past few years, and suggestions to eat here elicited all my skeptical and let's go somewhere else reactions. I wasn't even sure where it was, and when I realised we were heading towards the Merrion Centre I was less inclined to jump aboard the Japanese food train. If looks were everything this place wouldn't be too busy. It looks kinda dingy from the outside, and whilst the inside has a certain charm about it, it's not the Ritz but doesn't profess itself to be so. Think of it as a Japanese eatery version of the local cafe. I was looking over the menu, contemplating what to order, and being particularly hungry, did my unusual thing of looking at starters. My friend just shook her all knowing head at me and pointed straight to the mains. Huh? Well what was cloudy became clear within about ten minutes, as my hearty noodle dish came, steaming and smelling divine, and flippin huge. Seriously, I was pleasantly surprised at this. Considering how quick our orders came, I was more than pleased to take in the taste and how fresh everything was. It didnt have that 'been stewing all day in a pot waiting to be warmed up and served' taste, nor did it have quick food microwaved crunchy in some places and soggy in parts texture either. Being a dork with coordination, but feeling self conscious at the people opting for the chop sticks, I was relieved when a fork was provided for me. There's a good hustle bustle vibe about Fuji Hiro's and whilst the staff are not rude, far from it, there's an efficient business like approach to providing awesome food to their hungry clients, even the ones who are yet to walk through the door. Easy on the budget, good in the belly.

Tried something new last night and was well impressed with our decision…read more Again, taking advantage of a 'livingsocial' voucher which always encourages me to try something for a taster and see if I would pay full price- on this occasion, just that happened. We booked in for 6pm but due to the awful weather I didn't get there until 6.20 but my Mr was having a beer and chilling in the very calming 'bar' area. The entrance is a bit daunting and the door needs a firm hand to open but then you are transported into a Japanese paradise! Across the bridge you go, beautiful fish swimming underneath, to be greeted by a very 'traditional' waitress and seated for drinks. The drinks menu is ok, couple of beers and a wine list and also spirits etc so something for everyone. We had a few minutes to browse the menu before they came to take our order. I'm glad we were limited to the 'early bird' choice with the voucher we had as I was over faced with the choice available and would have taken ages to choose had I had to use the full menu! We were seated around the table and waited for our starters - Zensai - A mixture of Japanese Appetisers Yasai Tempura - Vegetables Both dishes were well presented, nice and hot and a pleasure to eat! We polished them off quite quickly. The vege tempura was lovely and light and we had a nice selection of mini Japanese nibbles on the 'Zensai'. We then had another couple come and be seated right next to us which we found a bit strange! They also were then served their starters. Another couple then were sat opposite us which added to our confusion a little more but then the neighbouring couple filled us in! This is the traditional seating pattern of Japanese, all sit together no matter who & around one table/hot plate to all enjoy the show! Ahhh, I get it now! Maybe I should have done more thorough research! The third couple got their starters which the 'hostess' attended to more drinks for us and the chef set up for his 'show'. We were then treated to a very entertaining dining experience while our main courses were cooked. A dazzling array of skills with the cooking utensils and a flash of fire! We had chosen- Fillet of Beef with Oriental Mushrooms & Chicken Teriyaki with leeks but all the food was cooked on the one hot plate- even the other couples fish which I wasn't overly impressed with as I'm not a big fish fan. The beef was lovely and tender and the only criticism we'd have was there didn't appear to be a lot! The chicken was also very tender and a slightly bigger portion! Even though we thought there wasn't enough, by the time we had ate the fried rice and stir fried veg we were too stuffed to even consider the dessert. As we had somewhere to be we paid quickly and rushed out- a shame really but totally our own fault- we should have allowed longer to appreciate the experience. This place is very entertaining and the food is super Very fresh and filling and totally worth a return visit. Best to go with more than 2 to make the most of the 'experience'.

Mind-blowingly good, wallet-achingly expensive Japanese food-theatre…read more After trawling through reviews for dinner in Leeds we finally stumbled upon Teppanyaki where we could use our taste card to good effect. Our table was booked for 9, they took our food and drinks orders whilst we waited, our attention distracted briefly from our rumbling stomachs by the koi carp pond. We had to wait about half an hour until we were seated, but goodness was it worth the wait! The starter of beef sashimi was melt-in-the-mouth tender and served with a tasty dipping sauce, absolutely faultless! Appetites truly whetted, the real drama begins. The chef enters centre stage and proceeds to prepare our meals and six others with a pyrotechnic display of culinary stagecraft. Dazzled by the bright lights and flashing knives, I had King prawns and jumbo scallops in a Tokyo butter, which is as exciting and delicious as it sounds. Just one star off for the long wait and for priceyness (even with the taste card). This is Japanese food-wizardry at its finest!

A flick of the wrist found me this place ...good.ol yelp…read more We were greeted immediately and led us to the nearest table. The decor was simplistic laden with Square tables with crockery to match . Impulsively we scanned through the menu, purely with sushi in mind. It's always easy for me to choose what I want. Tuna and salmon maki and sashimi yes please. Everything was reasonably priced, and the sake was was of good quality. While sipping on this warmed up beverage we decided on a spicy ramen each. I requested that the ramen noodles were replaced with udon, this was granted. The sushi itself was good, however the ramen was a little bit of a let down. The broth was flavoursome and contained the usual half egg, sweetcorn, beansprouts etc. But I couldn't understand how my epic sized salmon was so drY despite it was submerged in a spicy pond. The shredded beef in my partners ramen dish was shredded so much that it had a "already chewed consistency" and seasoned oddly..so for the £8.50 it was...okay but I have had so much better for the price. Overall definitely give this place a go, pricing was reasonable..but I would try a non soupy dish for the main...

The ETA was for about 45 mins after I placed the order. An hour after I placed the order I tried calling, to find that the phone number wouldn't ring and would immediately say 'user busy'. I tried 105 more times just pressing redial, which took me up to an hour and a half after ordering. That's when I spoke to Deliveroo and they just offered to cancel it and refund - which is so infuriating when you're so hungry and have waited this long for food?! Then we ordered a huge McDonald's order. 2 hours and 20 minutes after I ordered the food, it showed up. 2 minutes after this my maccies showed up. I have no idea why they delivered the freezing cold food. And the delivery driver mumbled 'sorry for your wait' and walked off. Don't bother ordering delivery.

And I'm SO glad she took us to this place...I haven't been back yet but definitely intend to take my friends there to sample the cuisine. The seating remnded me a lot of my dinner hall at school which wasn't exactly the image I would have liked whilst going out for dinner. However, we got sat down and settled and didn't really pay no mind to anybody else sat around. The service was extremely quick and I liked how friendly the staff were. I have a severe nut allergy and the staff were so hepful in giving me information about what I could and couldn't eat and reassuring me that I would be catered for. I ate a lovely Miso Soup and also tried their white chocolate cheesecake which was extremely naughty....The price was fantastic for the food quality and quantity. Although I think it would be nice to have smaller tales and booths, I think the seating adds to the ambience of the place and really gives it that something different.

Wagamama diners are popping up all over the place but are yet to hit the big time with those that love to eat out! This is lucky for me as there is always choice of where to sit when I want to eat there! (Seating is the only downside in the noddle bar. There are only 6 tables which are the width of the large room that can take up to 4/5 parties at a time...sometime it can feel a little crowded) Wagamamas won the retailers award in 2008 and most popular London restaurant not only in 2005 but in '06, '07 and '08, Woweeeee! I personally feel these awards were very much deserved. Don't be afraid to try something a little different. It feels quite liberating to leave the knives and forks and eat with chop sticks to nibble on pickles and sauces I never new existed! All the Raman dishes are yummy scrummy and like nothing you would order off your standard menu. Not feeling very creative, have the Cha-han, a prawn and rice dish that is just divine.

The waitress that attended to us seems like she doesn't really care about serving us. And each time I tried to make a request to nearby waiters and waitresses, I got ignored multiple times. Besides that, when we sat down, the music volume went up and it was loud to a point I have to raise my voice to talk to my friends. Even more, the waitress who attended us had to shout as she called out the drinks. I mean, why did you increase the music volume and resorted to shouting to get your voice heart. Anyways, I asked kindly "twice" if she could lower the volume so my friends could talk to each other; I am here for them and drinks not for your tasteless music. Both request ignored and despite the good atmosphere and drinks, the service was poor and lacking etiquette and professionalism. Deeply disappointing.
