Oh my flippin' manga daydream. Right. I'm not a sushi fan, traditionally. I've really tried. I've masticated many a salmon skin roll, and seriously tried to enjoy the odd texture, seaside flavour and salty taste. But I've always failed- there was just something about the seaweed and moist pink pulpous flesh that I couldn't abide. Apparently, until now. After a meet up with a new friend I realised it was almost criminally past lunch time and I'd not yet eaten a thing. He was headed out to Yo! Sushi and so invited me along - my first sentence being, "Mmmkay, do they do things NOT sushi?!" Well, that they do. So we arrived and we greeted and seated really nicely, wandering around a full half of the venue, which is possibly the most exciting place I've ever been. Maybe that's an exaggeration. I don't know. I was giddy as a school kid on their first ever sugar rush from snorting sherbert twizzlers. (Or similar.) The conveyor belts of delightful little dishes! On a constant rotation before you! The fibre optic poles! The televisions with Japanese Russian-doll like characters! The little personal water taps! The mini dishes for soy and wasabi! The tiny tiny pepper pots! Literally, I was high on life. Everything needed looking into. It was way too exciting. So, once our other dining companion came to join us, we began taking our treats off the ever-kinetic shelf. We started with those green beans that you pop out between your teeth and a really light sushi dish. Being so ignorant, I'll explain what it looked like. Black something holding together rice with a mini bit of prawn/tuna/salmon inside. Anyway, I loved it. Yes it was a little fishy, yes it was a little seaweedy, but with some soy and wasabi I was happy as Larry. Who ever he is, anyway. I didn't try the caviar dappled one, which was practically luminous, but I did enjoy a few other lightly fish-ed bits. I also had some mini duck pancake affair, a dish of their Yakisoba (which was nice, but not nearly as tasty as Fuji Hiro) and some kind of Japanese pancake situation to finish. Everything was amazing. The staff, the setting, the seats. Oh the excitement! My green tea was refilled 3 times, all for free, as was my companions' miso soup. And with dishes for as little as a couple of quid, with three or four depending on which you choose coming in at around the ten-fifteen pound mark, it's well worth it on a lunchtime. I really like that place, the most recent I've been it was with the Lolitas of Leeds group. We were taking advantage of an offer that recently ended on 40% off belt food. With that I had the choice of trying more new things and I was happy with all of them. Unfortunately can't remember everything because we were more: "oh i like that" or "that looks yummy" and we just grabbed it off the belt. But I still got my all time favorite chicken katsu and chocolate mochi. If i found myself on Mondays in the city center and i'm hungry i pop in for a quick bite since they have the blue Mondays offer which is a massive part of their menu is being charged for the price of the blue plates which is £2.40. The only thing I've tried and not big fan of is the miso soup but that's just me i think because i never had it before and haven't been somewhere else that do it in order to compare. My next plan is to get a friend that likes that type of food and abuse the Super! Sumo! Sundays! offer which is all-you-can-eat off the belt for £19.50. The staff is always friendly, the atmosphere is very lively and I love the open kitchen. If you going without reservation and you are quite a few people be careful the time you go especially on an offer day. It can be quite busy. read more

If you were rating this place on the quality of food alone, it wouldn't score this highly, but visiting Yo! Sushi is more than just eating, it's experience. Everything is so cute. From the little dishes for your soy and wasabi, to the cute little dishes trundling along the conveyor belt, to the little pencils and colouring sheet they bought out for my daughter. And sushi is just the perfect choice for me. I much prefer to have a little bit of lots of different dishes rather than one big plate of one thing. I love to try new things and I'm determined that one day I'll be able to tick off everything on the menu at Yo! and say yep! I've tried the lot! And I must say I had a pretty good stab at ticking a lot of dishes off on Sunday.... I most recently visited Yo! during their 'Sumo Sundays' promotion - all you can eat from the belt for £19.50. And boy did I make my money count! I never find sushi particularly filling, but man I was waddling down the escalators out of Harvey Nicks feeling glad of my stretchy pants!! It was very busy, there was a queue in front of me & 6 year old Mini MacDoo number 1 when we arrived, but it didn't take long for us to get seated at the belt. My daughter wasn't hungry and isn't adventurous enough to try any of the dishes (much to her foodie mum's disappointment!) so I was a bit worried about her getting bored, but the waiter who served us brought her a a little packet of pencil crayons and a colouring and activity sheet to keep her occupied, which included a fab game where you have to spot six different dishes going round on the belt - I got as excited as she did when we ticked the last couple off! So, daughter happily occupied, I began my assault on the belt. I scoffed hairy prawns, salmon skin iso, tuna nigiri, chicken gyoza, crunchy prawn iso, tempura prawns, chicken tsukune, Yo! Rolls and the totally amazing spicy pepper squid. And more. Yes, I'm a greedy pig, but hey, gotta get your money's worth in an 'all you can eat' promotion. In fact I take it as a personal challenge! I'm determined to take Mr MacDoo to Yo! at some point too. He's one of these folk who think they won't like sushi because they're put off by the thought of raw fish. Or even fish! But I know he'll love the yaki soba and the chicken katsu and the tsukune balls and the gyoza. Even if you're not a fish lover there's still loads to choose from so don't let it put you off. We love eating here especially on a Sunday when they do all you can eat for £20 a head. The dishes available are just as fantastic as on week days.We would have spent £165 if we hadn't gone for that option as they still tot up all the plates as normal.There were 4 of us and we went in very hungry!! I must admit to feeling slightly embarrassed by the mountains of coloured plates on our table but not enough to stop eating. After the monstrous trek through Harvey Nic's I finally arrived to Yo Sushi,a place I had visited only once before....extremely hung over and taking as many wooden spoons and chop sticks as possible. This time I was sober thankfully. Excellent hospitality can the front desk(reception). Seating wasn't an issue. The waiting staff are enthusiastic especially when someone wasn't been before. I did get lost in colours and prices at one point but the waitress made it clear anything I needed or any questions ring the bells! And what great fun it is too. Any dishes that are not out can be ordered and the chefs bang your dish out at an amazing rate. This is great Sushi place based on the top floor at Harvey Nichols, the food comes round on the conveyor belts and is prepared in front of you so its all fresh. You simply pick your dish off the conveyor belt (all dishes are colour coded by price) and eat as much as you want, you can try all sorts of different types of sushi here. I am familiar with the YoSushi brand but had not tried this one, on the top floor of Harvey Nics before. I was with a friend who had never been to one before. I found the staff very attentive and pleasant and the food as usual, cooked to perfection. I ate from both the belt and by order and service was efficient and quick. I decided to try Yo Sushi during a monday for the blue monday promotion (all plates on the conveyor belt costs the price of a blue plate, £2.20). You should think twice if you intend to only eat off the conveyor belt. During blue mondays, certain plates (some of the more costly ones) will not be put out, or at least very rarely. It is a different selection of plates than the ones I've seen the other times I came here. I felt disappointed and a little deceived. A really fun place to eat, its even better when they have the 50% promotion on that you get from joining the mailing list. I would say make sure that you read the rules of the promotion as some combinations make it void and you do not want to be left with a huge bill. There is plenty of choice going past on the belt and it is quite easy to rack up a big bill as its so tempting to pick up another. My favourite is the Katsu Curry that you order and the Miso soup that is refilable along with the green tea. Located on the top floor of Harvey Nichols means that it closes early on some nights of the week, i have been caught out on an early week night several times. I have heard so many good things about Yo! Sushi, one of my best friends spends an insane amount every time he goes and too be honest i dont see what all the fuss is about! The selection on the conveyor belt seemed pretty narrow or so similar it made no sense to try it. The fish wasnt what i would describe as fresh and as for the tuna..... not really sashimi! The miso soup was possibly one of the most bland and boring things iv ever tasted, the maki were virtually flavourless and again the tuna was really poor quality. I ordered firecracker chicken rice, which was pretty much the complete opposite the name suggests; iv had more heat in a prawn cracker let alone fire cracker. Also the chicken left soooooo much to be desired pre heated, over cooked, tasteless and fell apart more than a leper. I cannot stress the importance of seasoning when cooking food! The conveyor belt also needed cleaning urgently and the constant sound of people requiring help by the end of the meal did start to annoy me. However, moving swiftly on to the very few things i did like; the chicken gyoza were actually okay and one of the little cakes looked good on the conveyor belt but some other sweet toothed thief stole it before i could get my hands on it. I can use chopsticks but my lass cant, so the childrens chopsticks were perfect for her lack of skill, and also quite funny for me to mock! Also the waitress was fairly friendly about listening to my list of complaints when she made the fundamental mistake of asking my opinion, but did deal with it pretty well; unlike the man and the cash register who couldnt have cared less. In summary, if you like quite expensive little bits of tasteless fish, rice and seaweed go ahead and eat enough for both of us as i wont be going back. However, i recommend going to the market (for fresh fish) and oriental supermarket (for the other stuff) and having a bash yourself for a third of the money and in my opinion a hell of a lot more fun, not to mention taste. read more

I never expected to find a sushi bar in Harvey Nicols, but Yo! Sushi has been a very very pleasant surprise. Now I'm not the sort of person who goes to sushi bars regularly, so at first the variety and range of all the supremely delicious morsels was a bit overwhelming... I do recommend coming with a friend who knows his/her way around the menu. The decor is very space-age Japanese, with bold colours, LEDs, J-pop, the sushi conveyor belt, and, of course, the obligatory kitchen in the middle. My friends and I only ate dishes off the conveyor belt, and let me tell you, the bowls kept piling up fast! Lest you think I'm gushing , here are a few downsides: the open kitchen means it does get rather toasty, they charge £1.05 for fizzy water (although refils are unlimited, and for miso soup and green tea s well!), and, if you're a meat eater, the cheapest dishes are almost exclusively veggie. They do have a number of set menus if you're overwhelmed by the a la carte (or the a la conveyor), and the staff are nice and chatty. They also do various vouchers and deals, so unless you're swimming in ££, I'd keep an eye out for those. All in all, a very fun (and, thanks to a 40 % off voucher, cheap!) evening out! read more

The idea is simply revolutionary, maybe not to the Japanese but for the UK it beats sitting at a table and having your meal brought to you. The idea that you get the chance to grab your own plate is too fun to pass up. Situated on the forth floor of Harvey Nichols, this is the perfect stop on a shopping spree. You get to wean your way up to the fourth floor passing luxury goods and then you get welcomed by the lovely staff at Yo! Sushi and are promptly seated to your own stool area. You start eating from the get go, grab a plate, grab another and at the end they simply count up all your plates and price it. It's so easy, so fun, so Japanese. I highly recommend the salmon skin roll, the idea of eating salmon skin makes me physically sick, i didn't know i was eating it until i looked at the menu. Gross, now i just eat them and try my hardest not to think about the whole skin thing. I also recommend the chicken katsu curry, which you need to order from their hot menu, it's delish and is worth waiting about 5 minutes for, it's not as if you haven't got the whole of Japan's supply of sushi in front of you or anything! read more

have been to other YO's an also this one, but its been awhile shoppiing trip in leeds an was being treated to lunch at YO's (23/9/10) so rather happy with that, food was not as good as i remembered it? though staff as always very pleasant conveyor belt was near bare of dishes, and the state of the belt was rather off putting as there was debis in the corners an what looked like grime on the edges of the cresents. and some of the cresents where missing. not a good return experiance, as the hot food we ordered came, but it was cold around the edges, so it had been cooked but sat for awhile. this YO needs a dam good spring clean! read more

Yo Sushi is located on the top floor of Harvey Nichols and is well worth a trip. Many of the dishes available will be placed on the conveyor belt going around the central kitchen and all the tables and if there is something else on the menu you fancy the staff will knock one up for you. Instead of ordering one dish you select a number of small dishes (priced from £2 - £5 each) which is great if you are not that hungry or starving. The food is delicious (personally I like the Chicken Katsu Curry) and always seems to satisfy sushi experts and novices. The restaurant does get busy at lunch times so you may have to wait. It is worth looking out for the half price vouchers that are occasionally available (seems to be one in January and one in the summer) at these times the restaurant is usually a lot busier than usual. read more

I went to Yo Sushi for the first time on Saturday (my first experience of sushi/sashimi, too) and it was a treat from start to finish - it's just such fun sitting watching yummy dishes trundle past on the conveyor belt, and taking your pic. The sashimi is OK here, but I would steer clear of any of the sushi at all costs. For some reason, which I cannot for the life of me work out, they insist on packing every single roll and sushi piece with mayonnaise, which is unauthentic and more importantly extremely bad for you. Sure, it's fun to eat here, but the way they prepare the food really puts me off. I also had an awful meal here once where the restaurant manager was yelling at the kitchen staff, probably normal, but not good when the kitchen is open and in the middle of the restaurant! Yo! Sushi located on floor 4 of Harvey Nichols Leeds is a real hidden gem. With the demise of So Sushi off Millenium Square it is one of the only sushi restaurants and the style, with it's conveyor belt to choose from. The food is all freshly made, prices can tot up, but I have to say the quality is there so you don't really resent paying it. The staff are nice and the whole place has a good atmosphere, I would go here again but would rather it was in its own restaurant rather than being up 3 long escalators in a pretentious shop! read more
