Sushi (specifically salmon skin, sashimi & unagi) aside from shawarma is my favorite cuisine on the face of the planet and after not having any for quite some time, thanks to the fact that I was TRYING VERY HARD to eat local flavors, I was dying to add it back into my meal rotation (we have already planned to get sushi the instant we get off the plane in Los Angeles when we get back to the states).
I googled sushi places in York randomly out of curiosity... I was told that sushi isn't a very popular treat over here so I had to see for myself. I was shocked to see that there were only THREE Japanese restaurants that popped up on Yelp, including Yo! Sushi... A sushi restaurant that offers orders on a conveyor belt... As well as made to order offerings. I was a TINY BIT hesitant to go, and even just thought about agreeing to take fiancé to get pizza, but we wound up wandering over and giving it a go.
What I loved:
- the IMMEDIACY of getting food! The second you sit down, you can START EATING!
- the water spigot was right next to our seats, we sat at the sushi bar... So we had easy access to all you can drink water.
- I was also sitting next to the tub of ginger and wasabi you can help yourself to.... Score, because I ALWAYS find myself asking for plate after plate full of GINGER.
- The sushi bar seats were actually pretty comfortable for not having a back rest on them.
- When we ordered hot menu items, they were tackled and given to us in next to no time.
- Salmon Skin is on the menu!!!
- Modifications can be made to your orders if need be.
- The staff was very friendly.
- The sashimi I ate was super fresh, I wanted to EAT. IT. ALL. - I was told that every 48 hours they get a new shipment of seafood
- The sushi makers time stamp all the food they put on the moving bar, so they know what time to take it off if no one snatches it. I find it hard to believe that no one would!
WARNINGS:
- You can EASILY EAT TOO MUCH. Yo! sushi definitely knows this... As delicious offerings keep passing by your face like a game. Sure, I brought fiancé with me, but he honestly ate 3 of the tiny plates of food and I ate oh about 6-7... I lost count, and to be honest, my bill wasn't exactly pocket change!
- This is NOT an all you can eat restaurant. Well it is, but the only set prices on the menu are the ones denoted by the color of the plates!
With just TWO warnings and lots of POSITIVE ATTRIBUTES, eating at Yo! Sushi is a must if you crave sushi like I do... For a sushi aficionado like myself, that's saying something... Oh and I ordered my special salmon skin rolls (no rice, no sauce, no vegetables)... 6 of them, lol... And they definitely filled my crunchy salmon skin void, but would have probably been better with a little sticky rice... Again though, no serious complaints!
I'd go back today if I could... But I won't drag fiancé back, as he really didn't eat much (he had some salmon rolls and chicken katsu) and left hungry, unlike myself. read more
