Yay smoothies
Danny B.

What a great store! Layout is massive! Soo much in here!! All the flavours! Staff were really friendly, have me lots of testers to try! I had the classic vanilla being my favourites and all of the condiments! I'm a big fan of frozen yoghurt, although it can sometimes be a little pricey , however play it smart and you won't spend that much !! It cost me under $5 tonight and it was more than I needed (ok eating all the testers helped)!! Will be back here again and it's nice place, staff are friendly and new flavours always come into play! So glad to finally have a yo chi open closer to city as traveling out st kila way for one was a bit far for me!

Get the salted butterscotch or chai flavour yoghurt #swoon

Brave move Yo Chi. Brave move opening a frozen yoghurt store in the heart of gelati land. But thanks for doing so. Thanks for bringing a stylishly minimalist interior, all the favourite flavours from Balaclava plus some new ones (licorice!) and the endless array of toppings to tempt. Your new space is bigger here as well, which is handy as I anticipate it's going to go off shortly. I can't go past the salted butterscotch and chai flavours myself - it's my smack. And everything tastes better when it's covered in mini M&Ms, white chocolate and crumble mix, so thanks for being an enabler here as well. If you're looking for a refreshing dessert in Carlton - and not in the mood to jostle with the tourists of Brunettis - turn left at Faraday Street and get swirling with the best frozen yoghurt in Melbourne.

Delicious frozen creation

Melbourne might be in the midst of a icy Arctic vortex but that has not stopped lovers of Yo-Chi from getting their frozen yogurt fix. Yo-Chi Carlton is my favourite of the stores because of the huge venue size - it's full of light, colour and of course delicious healthy treats. This is a self-serve deal, just choose your cup, sample a few natural flavours (coffee, salted butterscotch, vanilla, chai and coconut are my go to choices) then add whatever toppings you think will work best. The yoghurt all tastes fresh and natural (because it is). I love that no matter which flavour you choose from you know that there's not going to be any nasty chemical or artificial flavouring. The selection of toppings are really good too. If you want to try and be healthy there is plenty of things to choose from including fresh berries, fruits and so on. If you are like me though and have a dangerous sweet tooth then sink your teeth into chocolate peanut butter cups, honeycomb, caramel syrups, sprinkles or countless other extras. I was pleasantly surprised to find that winter is well catered for with three different warm toppings to add to your frozen dream. Homemade warm butterscotch pudding was excellent, fantastic pastry and molten insides of the pie worked perfectly with chai yoghurt. I also loved the white chocolate and apple crumble - I would recommend having this one with the salted caramel butterscotch yoghurt! In summer there is a seperate smoothie stand which looks pretty exciting. I recommend sitting outside on the communal seating if it's a warm day otherwise the prized window seats looking out on the street make for amazing people watching. This is a shrine to frozen yoghurt - keep doing what you are doing Yo-Chi!

Big space, clean and there are quite a few flavours of the yoghurt. What I am not impressed is the selection of toppings.

Music was very loud and mid taste. Vegan options were honestly bad flavors but that's subjective. But love the topping options

Much better than Skinny Dippa down the road, and you feel better about yourself than if you'd gone to Baskin Robbins next door.

I like that they are just a full fat, full sugar, full everything bad for you & not trying to make a healthier version for the amazingness coma you go into (don't get me wrong I like going to "healthier" versions, makes me feel better about my indulgance) I have been told the one in fitzroy is a must go to, so that will be next on my list.

It is the not-super power that found me at Nitro Lab on a 16 degree and raining Melbourne day. There aren't that many flavours at Nitro Lab but they all look cool and are made in front of your eyes with Nitrogen from a giant tank. I don't know the scientific explanation, but ICE MADE IT GOOOOD. I can't go past Salted Caramel so that's what I got (with popcorn). My mum went for the waffle and coffee combo. The caramel was good. I tried the waffle. I have never been a fan and the chocolate sauce isn't great. But according to the girl behind the counter these are the best waffles in the city and she has been to lots of waffle places and started rattling off numerous waffle places I have never heard of as if to support her story. I think I'm more inclined to go to Messina for the flavours but this was nice for a change.

All I felt 933 of them and i feel cheated, as for the frozen part, the product was only part frozen. Another disappointment. I also did not appreciate the sheer amount of choice of flavour available in store. 6 choices? It sent my anxiety into overdrive and I felt on the verge of a panic attack. Why not just one flavour: plain, coupled with a daily rotating flavour of the week. And also just out of curiosity, why don't you sell/do pizza? There's clearly a gap in the market there

I was thrilled when Frozen took over a section of what was once an unreasonably enormous pharmacy to bring the tart goodness of fro yo to South Yarra. It's a familiar formula: choose a small, medium or large cup. Fill it with your favorite flavors (natural, coconut and chocolate are my picks), then load on your toppings from the self serve bar and pay by weight. These aren't just any toppings though. They rotate... a lot... which is obviously a clever ploy to keep customers coming back for more. It works. I fall for it. Because they're interesting: halva (halawa), banana bread, green tea and red bean mochi, passionfruit pearls, super ripe and fresh mango, kiwi and more, PB cups, toasted nuts, muesli, shredded coconut... You can be as virtuous or indulgent as you like, moving from the right side of the bar (fruit, nuts etc) to the left (sex, er, chocolate). You can taste any flavor you want before paying. ... See you there?

The best value can be gained by choosing the sundaes where you select 3 flavours and get warm chocolaty fudge with nuts and whipped cream. I can feel my thighs growing just thinking about it. An equally good idea is the Little Tacker version which replaces the cream and nuts with smarties in a slightly smaller cup. The flavours are diverse and often incorporate seasonal favourites such as Easter Egg and Christmas Pudding. There are also Aussie icons like Lamington. My long time favourite is the spotty dog. Gluten free options are also available as are birthday cakes, shakes and take home tins of gelato/sorbet. The store at this location is a bit hectic and the seating area is often in disarray, not great feng shui. My tip is to take your treat to the side of the Yarra and enjoy it there as you watch the world go by. Or even better yet take a stroll along the river and eat as you go, in an attempt to burn off some calories at the same time!

There's no actual sign up but just look for the hipster neon signs (either the red grocer or aqua gelati). We dropped in on a Thursday evening (around 9:15pm) and it was busy. There was a queue but it moves fairly quickly. The flavours are up on a sheet to the side; gelati, specials and sorbet. They also have smoothies and juices available. There were 16 flavours, all very traditional. - 2x mango & passionfruit ($5.00 AUD) - it's more mango than passionfruit. It won't blow you away but it's still good. The cone itself is dinky and flavourless. - Coconut pandan ($5.00 AUD) - B's choice which I had a taste of. It's coconut prominent. Could barely taste any pandan. Good but there's better gelato shops. Cash only. 3.5 stars.

(Gee, that was a mouthful) Situated in quiet Yarra lane which is just off Darling Street, the new self-serve concept has yet to pick up but we're sure it will soon enough. How it works is you are the master of your own yoghurt cup experience. It's a clever system, I think because you decide how much yoghurt you want (perfect for small or very large eaters) and then you choose your toppings and everything is calculated by weight. This means, if you're in a huge yoghurt mood and you fill your bowl with yoghurt and toppings, you pay the price. Likewise, if you're just in the mood for a quick slither of a taste, you pay for the small portion. It's the perfect equation and one where you can never again blame the service staff for under or over portioning. My advice however is to try the flavours you're interested in before your swirl your cup under the yoghurt machine. Once you're set on your choice (you can choose as many flavours as you like), then you start the DIY part. We've been here on two occasions now and it's always empty because the apartments nearby are still quite vacant but we're sure once word gets round, this place will pack up so get in before everybody else.
