Sam O.

The design of the place is very nice and the staff were very friendly. I also very much enjoyed the ice cream. My only issue with it however was that nothing either myself or my partner ordered was how we expected it to be. For instance, I ordered chocolate chip ice cream and chocolate brownie ice cream (I'm a sucker for chocolate) and received vanilla ice cream mixed with a few chocolate pieces, and a chocolate ice cream without any touch of brownie pieces of brownie flavour. Very confusing! Similarly, my partner ordered honeycomb ice cream and peanut butter ice cream, and received barely any honeycomb pieces and a peanut ice cream (not peanut butter). The ice cream was still nice, but not what we wanted or thought we would be receiving based on the menu, so because of this I can't see us returning.

Great fit out ! Unfortunately tonight the size of your gelati were very small and soft as they melted of the cone. The young gentleman behind the counter was great at trying to convince me the reason of the size and texture of the gelato was because it was all natural. I'm sorry Miss Foti not the best customer experience.

I needed some type of dessert after a salt filled dinner. Most places were already closed but I…read moreremembered Pidapipo is always open late. After all, their motto is " gelato eight days a week". They have a second location in Carlton. We dropped in on a late Tuesday evening (around 10:00pm) and the place was bumping. There's only four stools to sit inside at but another three tables outside. There's always a lineup but it moves fairly quickly. We waited and were able to time a lull that let us sample several flavours. There's 17 gelato (7 specials) and 6 sorbetti flavours. There's also the option of affogato ($7.00 AUD), gelato in brioches ($9.00 AUD), frappe ($8.00 AUD) and cakes made to order. Prices are pretty standard ($4.50 AUD for 1 scoop, $6.50 AUD for 2 and $7.50 AUD for 3). - 500 mL ($12.00 AUD) - a half tub always seems to be the best deal. The unfortunate thing at Pidapipò is that you can only choose two flavours. We ended up going with mint with white chocolate and blood plum. You get tiny chunks of white chocolate mixed with refreshing mint. Blood plum was just as good with bits and pieces of the plum skin mixed in. This is real deal gelato and sorbetti. The guys working here all were speaking Italian. Definitely worth a visit.

Great little gelato place along Chapel St. They also serve…read morecakes. Got myself a vegan chocolate ice cream cone and my friend got Honey Comb and Vanilla Bean and we loved it.

Okay.. we took off to Waverley Road, Malvern East.. yesterday afternoon.. to have a sundae at DAIRY BELL ICE-CREAM SHOP.. Well.. of course.. another one gone.. it was there last year.. but, whole building bull-dozed.. this year..!! Google came up with another place - LICK ME ICE-CREAM on Riversdale Road, Middle Camberwell.. [Incidentally.. this shop is also known as THE BIRTHDAY CAKE SHOP and GOURMET ICE-CREAM FACTORY..] Anyway, no sundaes on offer.. smoothies still all the rage.. so we ordered: -2 x Caramel Thick Shakes with added Malt - $5.95 + .50 = $6.45 each - These were TRULY DELISH..!! - Loads of Ice-cream, Full-cream Milk, Quality tasting Caramel Topping plus Malt Powder.. YUM..!! -1 x 3 scoop Large Waffle Cone - $6 - Chose a Caramel, a Chocolate and Hokey Pokey - Disappointed with the flavour.. not much there.. could hardly discriminate between the 3 scoops.. only marked difference was the colour.. -1 x 500ml take-home tub from the freezer - $8.90 - A coffee variety.. not good.. too aerated.. almost like foam rather than ice-cream.. not sure what happened here.. I asked if their ice-cream was made on premises.. she said "Yes, we make it every Wednesday".. Signage says it's "All Natural.." "Made in Melbourne.." Okay.. well.. my recommendation - A REALLY GREAT PLACE FOR A GENEROUS OLD-FASHIONED LARGE THICK SHAKE AT A VERY GOOD PRICE - $5.95....!!!! [PS. Milk Shakes - $4.95] [PSS. They take card payment - a rarity in little ice-cream shops] Visited on Saturday 26/09/2015 with my family of four.

They come in cute colourful little tubs with speech bubbles that say (surprisingly) "Lick Me"). If you have, and furthermore if you've tried said ice cream, you'll at the very least suspect that the ice cream maker should be tracked down and camped outside of. Well, ladies and gentlemen, I have found that location. The scoops are big, the cost is cheap and the fit out does not befit the numerous awards this place has won. Get the cinnamon. Trust me.

A deliciously creamy glob of stuff. Unfortunately for Australia, Cold Rock is like the dull half-cousin of Cold Stone. It simply is not good enough. My recommendations for improvement: ~ On the menu, have a list of signature, suggested combinations. Obviously, still have the option of people making their own combos, but for the people who don't really know where to start, pointing them in the right direction is a good idea. ~ Have the staff be more lively. Cold Stone in America is the epitome of a fun ice cream place. Sometimes the employees sing as they work like the little dwarfs from Snow White. It may sound silly, but it's loads of fun. Cold Rock Hawthorn just doesn't leave room for excitement. Instead, I'm greeted by a bored looking hipster, a completely quiet atmosphere, and I'm forced to eat my ice cream bored. On the plus side, Cold Rock does have some great ice cream flavours. I tried the Cinnamon and was blown away!

It's finally happened. Melbourne gets another Gelato Messina. Anyone that has ever been to the…read moreFitzroy store knows this couldn't have come soon enough! Same format here - rows and rows of unique and delicious freshly made gelato in both ice-cream and sorbet varieties. Staff will let you try whatever flavour you like which may ease the choice anxiety, or make it worse! It's cash only, so come prepared. Recent price changes have a Tiny (baby scoop) at $4 and Single Scoop $4.80. I typically avoid the Fitzroy store due to the crushing crowds and didn't really get caught up in the hype of it all until last month. I wound up addicted to Messina after a short stint in Bondi. Here I learnt the trick to the optimum Gelato Messina experience. Always go for the specials board. Rotating regularly, the specials board always has the most out there combinations that will rock your world. In Sydney I had ones like the Momofuku 'crack pie' with hunks of caramelly biscuit in cereal milk gelato, or cream cheese gelato packed full of red velvet cake. Today at the new Richmond store, I had the "You Make My Day', which featured Toasted Milk Gelato with Oreo cookies and Dulce de Leche. It only just beat out the Coconut special filled with passionfruit curd & pineapple cake...which I kinda want to go back for before it goes away! I can't imagine the Richmond store being any less popular than Fitzroy, but at least many of us won't need to cross town anymore!
