On an extremely hot day, this ice creamery can get busy, and I really mean that. I tried their hazelnut and pistachio gelato, and I was struggling to eat it quickly; yet bits of cream was starting to flow down my hands. The serving sizes are extremely generous. I am not trying to deter you from spending less money at this establishment (you will be spoilt for choice, and sticking to one flavour will prove to be quite difficult anyway) however if your normally the type of ice cream fanatic that normally buys two scoops of ice cream; do yourself a favour and just try one scoop as a result. This business does close sometime during winter, and you are pre-warned about this. It is chic, stylish and contemporary, and you are allowed to sample one or two of their flavours before purchasing. And the staff are so friendly; a real joy to come to this establishment to buy my ice cream treat instead of nearby Trampoline on Acland Street. You will want to come back for more. When (and if) you do come back for more; do yourself a favour and be adventurous: buy another completely different flavour ice cream altogether.

7 Apples was found by Mark Mariotti. He lived in Tuscany for a while to learn the perfect craft of gelato making. Lucky him, one of the country most famous artisans Gelateria named Eugenio in Marina Di Massa willingly taught him the skills he needed. one of the best gelato around

Amazing gelato + sorbet = 7 Apples Last time I dropped by 7 Apples it was a cool Wednesday night and there was still a line, in summer make sure you bring your patience with you when you head here. So this time I was in a sorbet sort kind of mood and went for the lemon and raspberry flavours. How do they get it so creamy? The raspberry rocked my world and while I loved the lemon I found it lacked a certain zing. I also sampled the Red Bull flavour but decided it defiantly belongs in a can not a cone. In the past I have enjoyed the generous servings of creamy classic gelato and they are all made from high quality ingredients. The staff are friendly and fast and will happily steer you towards a small serve ($4.70) if your not really hungry! The main problem, choosing from the great range!

Picture this: A hot summers day in Melbourne. You walk up from the sun drenched St Kilda beach to get yourself a cool treat, and stumble across an oasis in the desert ( read: Gelato shop in Acland st) .You wait patiently in the crowd, and then finally step up to the counter. You sample both creamy and fruit based gelatos....Your heart starts to quicken and your mouth starts to salivate at the thought of what coming....and then you step back from the counter with your cookies and cream scoop, and your Mango Sorbet and its then you realise - you have heaven in your hands.

I needed some type of dessert after a salt filled dinner. Most places were already closed but I…read moreremembered Pidapipo is always open late. After all, their motto is " gelato eight days a week". They have a second location in Carlton. We dropped in on a late Tuesday evening (around 10:00pm) and the place was bumping. There's only four stools to sit inside at but another three tables outside. There's always a lineup but it moves fairly quickly. We waited and were able to time a lull that let us sample several flavours. There's 17 gelato (7 specials) and 6 sorbetti flavours. There's also the option of affogato ($7.00 AUD), gelato in brioches ($9.00 AUD), frappe ($8.00 AUD) and cakes made to order. Prices are pretty standard ($4.50 AUD for 1 scoop, $6.50 AUD for 2 and $7.50 AUD for 3). - 500 mL ($12.00 AUD) - a half tub always seems to be the best deal. The unfortunate thing at Pidapipò is that you can only choose two flavours. We ended up going with mint with white chocolate and blood plum. You get tiny chunks of white chocolate mixed with refreshing mint. Blood plum was just as good with bits and pieces of the plum skin mixed in. This is real deal gelato and sorbetti. The guys working here all were speaking Italian. Definitely worth a visit.

Great little gelato place along Chapel St. They also serve…read morecakes. Got myself a vegan chocolate ice cream cone and my friend got Honey Comb and Vanilla Bean and we loved it.

It's finally happened. Melbourne gets another Gelato Messina. Anyone that has ever been to the…read moreFitzroy store knows this couldn't have come soon enough! Same format here - rows and rows of unique and delicious freshly made gelato in both ice-cream and sorbet varieties. Staff will let you try whatever flavour you like which may ease the choice anxiety, or make it worse! It's cash only, so come prepared. Recent price changes have a Tiny (baby scoop) at $4 and Single Scoop $4.80. I typically avoid the Fitzroy store due to the crushing crowds and didn't really get caught up in the hype of it all until last month. I wound up addicted to Messina after a short stint in Bondi. Here I learnt the trick to the optimum Gelato Messina experience. Always go for the specials board. Rotating regularly, the specials board always has the most out there combinations that will rock your world. In Sydney I had ones like the Momofuku 'crack pie' with hunks of caramelly biscuit in cereal milk gelato, or cream cheese gelato packed full of red velvet cake. Today at the new Richmond store, I had the "You Make My Day', which featured Toasted Milk Gelato with Oreo cookies and Dulce de Leche. It only just beat out the Coconut special filled with passionfruit curd & pineapple cake...which I kinda want to go back for before it goes away! I can't imagine the Richmond store being any less popular than Fitzroy, but at least many of us won't need to cross town anymore!

Best gelato ice cream in Melbourne. Definitely worth a try and there are so many great chioces…read more Love the pistachio flavour best.

Organic coconut -- with its lovely bits of coconutty goodness -- and the terrifically tart original flavour are both top notch. I also enjoyed the chocolate, but skip the strawberry, it's flavour is fake. The only thing missing for me at Story In A Cup were mochi bits to top off my yoghurt. Luckily nuts and mini chocolate chips served as a fine substitute.

(Gee, that was a mouthful) Situated in quiet Yarra lane which is just off Darling Street, the new self-serve concept has yet to pick up but we're sure it will soon enough. How it works is you are the master of your own yoghurt cup experience. It's a clever system, I think because you decide how much yoghurt you want (perfect for small or very large eaters) and then you choose your toppings and everything is calculated by weight. This means, if you're in a huge yoghurt mood and you fill your bowl with yoghurt and toppings, you pay the price. Likewise, if you're just in the mood for a quick slither of a taste, you pay for the small portion. It's the perfect equation and one where you can never again blame the service staff for under or over portioning. My advice however is to try the flavours you're interested in before your swirl your cup under the yoghurt machine. Once you're set on your choice (you can choose as many flavours as you like), then you start the DIY part. We've been here on two occasions now and it's always empty because the apartments nearby are still quite vacant but we're sure once word gets round, this place will pack up so get in before everybody else.
