So good. The fruit is always fresh and delicious, none of the toppings ever look sad or wilted. The Hawthorn store is so pretty, a huge space with a gorgeous fit out and fun neon lights that makes it a great place to catch up with friends and actually hang out with your dessert rather than an in-and-out take away place. A friend noted that the large communal table seems to have been designed so that if you spill your froyo, it doesn't drip off the sides - clever! Hawthorn seems to be going through quite an invigoration at the moment and Yo-Chi fits in perfectly with that. My daughter got their macha cake and was loving that as well. I was in New Zealand a few weeks prior and was told that pavlova is a dessert that New Zealand also claimed to be its own, but I only found it in one place, in donut form. Once I got to Australia, I was able to get pavlova everywhere, but this place has it down to a science. It's a familiar formula: choose a small, medium or large cup. Fill it with your favorite flavors (natural, coconut and chocolate are my picks), then load on your toppings from the self serve bar and pay by weight. These aren't just any toppings though. They rotate... a lot... which is obviously a clever ploy to keep customers coming back for more. It works. I fall for it. Because they're interesting: halva (halawa), banana bread, green tea and red bean mochi, passionfruit pearls, super ripe and fresh mango, kiwi and more, PB cups, toasted nuts, muesli, shredded coconut... You can be as virtuous or indulgent as you like, moving from the right side of the bar (fruit, nuts etc) to the left (sex, er, chocolate). You can taste any flavor you want before paying. ...
