    Apple pie signature ice cream
    Khaled A.

Really cool place for weird combinations of ice cream. I went with their signature ice cream "not your typical granny apple pie". You order at the counter. I went there on a Saturday around 5pm and it was quite empty which was nice not to wait for any line. The portion is really big given it's both a cone and a cup. They also had another ice cream that seemed really good which is the chocolate but decided to go with their signature.

Tucked away down a lane off Little Bourke, Dex2rose awaits.

A friend invited me here while I was visiting Melbourne. Tucked away down a lane off Little Bourke, Dex2rose is super chill, and that's not just a joke because it's a nitrogen gelateria. Milk crates strewn outside the large entrance, with university students occupying most of them, this would be an ideal place for group assignment meet ups that require sustenance of the sweetened kind. Here I was thinking all those times I used 'Nutella-bomb' as my word in a game of Empire, I had created the most unique word combination ever. Recite it here and you'll be getting a cup of delightfully hazel-nutty frozen goodness. If you're after super cool frozen dessert and N2 is a little too 'been there done that', be sure to pop into Dex2rose!

Hidden in the laneway, we stumbled into Dex2rose curiously with caution as the name doesn't give much away from afar. Little did we know that it was a place of goodies: Nitrogen Gelato, fresh juices, and super duper cool staff! We ordered the passionfruit cheesecake and oreo gelato and scoffed it down in no time. I really enjoyed the visit and will be bringing more people here soon to sit on the lovely couch or chill outside on the crates on a nice night.

Salted caramel and popcorn. Yes. Amazing.

This is our place to go for a delightful, naughty treat. The quirky flavours are always different, always slightly weird, and always delicious. I love how they play around with the names and new flavour combinations and experiences. I've tried all kinds of things here over my many visits, but the one I remember best was a peanut butter and jam flavoured gelato. I almost cried when I returned and they'd changed the menu, but because the new menu wasn't great, but because I want to eat PB&J ice cream ALL of the time. So I had a salted caramel and popcorn gelato to help me feel better. It did. Also, also, don't forget the cold press coffee. The concept of creating and serving coffee similar to a beer appeals deeply to my coffee-addicted self. It's also a really interesting, satisfying way to experience coffee. I love everything about Dex2rose, including how hard it is to find (I can never remember exactly which alley it's in until I try each one off Little Bourke) and the atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed, and the staff are friendly and fun.

Well this was a surprise! Just a random visit prompted by promises of toasted marshmallows in the middle of winter. This place is the perfect example of the wonders you can find down a random alleyway in Melbourne. We purchased the Hot Chocolate Set and a Mal-Teaser (both pictured). While the gelato was yummy, it was the toasted marshmallows that had us both grinning like little kids. It brought back fond memories!

I am so disappointed with Dex2rose. I tried their Thai Milk Tea gelato (without grass jelly) and it does not take like Thai Milk Tea at all. It just tasted like milk and licorice. The "wafer" cracker is like those water crackers you eat cheese with. I had about three spoonfuls and gave up. My friend's salted caramel gelato was way better. Decorated with cute popcorn, it had a nice balance of saltiness and sweetness. Overall for $6.9 for a small scoop I ain't gonna come back for more that's for sure.

Randomly came across this place while walking the lane ways of Melbourne. What a happy surprise! I actually thought there was nothing down this lane way because of the random milk crates (thought it was just mess, lol) but I later realised they were sitting areas for people! (I'm not hipster enough unfortunately :P) I had the salted caramel gelato and it was incredible. Cutely adorned with popcorn on the top, it finished off my evening in the best possible way!

Let your imagination go wild here - some of the ice cream combos are just out of this world ...they have a really imaginative menu and you can get milkshakes and crepes too! The menu is super user friendly - this is great because you can have any kind of sauce or toppings and the step by step menu makes ordering was easier when you get to the till and have a dozen things to say yes or no to! I had a chocolate milkshake with mixed berries sauce and Oreo soil and cream on top! It was so so delicious and satisfying!

Definitely the top nitrogen ice cream! Entrance hidden in the little lane way. Never upset me every of my visit.

Such a creative place to have coffee and dessert. The location is off the main flow of foot traffic, but this location is worth finding. There is a wide array of gelato and coffees. The best gelato has to be the Birthday Cake. Staff are friendly and helpful. This location does not offer table service, however after you order at the counter the staff will bring it out to your table. If you enjoy green tea, try the Matcha Crepe!!

Amazing selections of unique desserts. Tried their 'mist in the woods' hot chocolate and I love how interactive and customizable the whole experience was. The charred marshmallow, salted caramel gelato and the raspberry druplets are great when mixed with the hot chocolate. I've also tried the sugar mountain and salted camel. Loving them both and I can't wait to get back to try their other flavours. The Charcoal Chocolate Chip Belgian Waffle is all Instagrammers dream and the aesthetic is just another new level. Delicious and best to be shared (huge portion).Great place to hang out with your friends to chill and dessert.

Kaya and pandan gelato covered w matcha powder, shot of peanut butter ganache and baguette toasts. Yum.

There aren't that many flavours at Nitro Lab but they all look cool and are made in front of your eyes with Nitrogen from a giant tank. I don't know the scientific explanation, but ICE MADE IT GOOOOD. I can't go past Salted Caramel so that's what I got (with popcorn). My mum went for the waffle and coffee combo. The caramel was good. I tried the waffle. I have never been a fan and the chocolate sauce isn't great. But according to the girl behind the counter these are the best waffles in the city and she has been to lots of waffle places and started rattling off numerous waffle places I have never heard of as if to support her story. I think I'm more inclined to go to Messina for the flavours but this was nice for a change.

I was thrilled when Frozen took over a section of what was once an unreasonably enormous pharmacy to bring the tart goodness of fro yo to South Yarra. It's a familiar formula: choose a small, medium or large cup. Fill it with your favorite flavors (natural, coconut and chocolate are my picks), then load on your toppings from the self serve bar and pay by weight. These aren't just any toppings though. They rotate... a lot... which is obviously a clever ploy to keep customers coming back for more. It works. I fall for it. Because they're interesting: halva (halawa), banana bread, green tea and red bean mochi, passionfruit pearls, super ripe and fresh mango, kiwi and more, PB cups, toasted nuts, muesli, shredded coconut... You can be as virtuous or indulgent as you like, moving from the right side of the bar (fruit, nuts etc) to the left (sex, er, chocolate). You can taste any flavor you want before paying. ... An equally good idea is the Little Tacker version which replaces the cream and nuts with smarties in a slightly smaller cup. The flavours are diverse and often incorporate seasonal favourites such as Easter Egg and Christmas Pudding. There are also Aussie icons like Lamington. My long time favourite is the spotty dog. Gluten free options are also available as are birthday cakes, shakes and take home tins of gelato/sorbet. The store at this location is a bit hectic and the seating area is often in disarray, not great feng shui. My tip is to take your treat to the side of the Yarra and enjoy it there as you watch the world go by. Or even better yet take a stroll along the river and eat as you go, in an attempt to burn off some calories at the same time!

(Gee, that was a mouthful) Situated in quiet Yarra lane which is just off Darling Street, the new self-serve concept has yet to pick up but we're sure it will soon enough. How it works is you are the master of your own yoghurt cup experience. It's a clever system, I think because you decide how much yoghurt you want (perfect for small or very large eaters) and then you choose your toppings and everything is calculated by weight. This means, if you're in a huge yoghurt mood and you fill your bowl with yoghurt and toppings, you pay the price. Likewise, if you're just in the mood for a quick slither of a taste, you pay for the small portion. It's the perfect equation and one where you can never again blame the service staff for under or over portioning. My advice however is to try the flavours you're interested in before your swirl your cup under the yoghurt machine. Once you're set on your choice (you can choose as many flavours as you like), then you start the DIY part. We've been here on two occasions now and it's always empty because the apartments nearby are still quite vacant but we're sure once word gets round, this place will pack up so get in before everybody else.
