You say gelati, I say gelato. Whatever, it's all good at Il Dolce Freddo. I visited Il Dolce Freddo on a Saturday night at around 9pm and it was truly hectic. It took a bit of shoving to get to the front and get served, but it was well worth it. The pistachio gelati is TO DIE FOR. So creamy and light, all at once. Words can't do it justice. They've got a huge array of flavours at Il Dolce Freddo, including Snickers, which I'd never seen before. I didn't try them all, but it's not due to a lack of desire. This place is clearly a favourite of the masses on Lygon Street, and it's well deserved.

How I didn't know this place exsisted before yesterday is beyond me, walked past a million times…read morebut never been in. This is close to my biggest mistake so far, what a cool place!!! I loved how they were all dressed in white coats with goggles & beakers. The experience in watching your ice cream get made is so much fun & just really really cool! I like that they are just a full fat, full sugar, full everything bad for you & not trying to make a healthier version for the amazingness coma you go into (don't get me wrong I like going to "healthier" versions, makes me feel better about my indulgance) I have been told the one in fitzroy is a must go to, so that will be next on my list.

It is the not-super power that found me at Nitro Lab on a 16 degree and raining Melbourne day. There aren't that many flavours at Nitro Lab but they all look cool and are made in front of your eyes with Nitrogen from a giant tank. I don't know the scientific explanation, but ICE MADE IT GOOOOD. I can't go past Salted Caramel so that's what I got (with popcorn). My mum went for the waffle and coffee combo. The caramel was good. I tried the waffle. I have never been a fan and the chocolate sauce isn't great. But according to the girl behind the counter these are the best waffles in the city and she has been to lots of waffle places and started rattling off numerous waffle places I have never heard of as if to support her story. I think I'm more inclined to go to Messina for the flavours but this was nice for a change.

If things aren't too busy they'll deliver to your table, otherwise just listen for your name. Unfortunately they weren't serving crepes or waffles when we arrived. We ordered the "death by chocolate" nitrogen ice cream which was topped with a dense fudge brownie. It was uber decadent. We also had the "mist in the woods" which is a hot chocolate set served with rose flavored nitrogen, salted caramel nitrogen Gelato, and marshmallows which you can self roast. Everything was made in house with love. I don't think you can go wrong ordering anything here. Every item is very expensive though.

Tucked in a quiet alley in Melbourne's walkway, one could easily pass this spot without noticing its presence (just look for the rustic green door and you are at the right place). The interior was quite spacious with dark and industrial vibes, but I guess it's part of their charms. Their menu, however, was creative and presentation was very Instagramable. I had the Matcha Crepe Mille cake with white chocolate gelato. The crepe cakes are made from layers upon layers of velvety paper thin crepes and light cream in between. The cake was heavenly delicious and won my heart on the very first bites! The presentation was also equally orgasmic to the eye - the cake was drizzle generously with green tea ganache, garnished with edible flowers, popcorn crumbles and fresh fruits. YUM~ Truly exceptional and if you are a sweet tooth person, this dessert shop should not be missed!

The best value can be gained by choosing the sundaes where you select 3 flavours and get warm chocolaty fudge with nuts and whipped cream. I can feel my thighs growing just thinking about it. An equally good idea is the Little Tacker version which replaces the cream and nuts with smarties in a slightly smaller cup. The flavours are diverse and often incorporate seasonal favourites such as Easter Egg and Christmas Pudding. There are also Aussie icons like Lamington. My long time favourite is the spotty dog. Gluten free options are also available as are birthday cakes, shakes and take home tins of gelato/sorbet. The store at this location is a bit hectic and the seating area is often in disarray, not great feng shui. My tip is to take your treat to the side of the Yarra and enjoy it there as you watch the world go by. Or even better yet take a stroll along the river and eat as you go, in an attempt to burn off some calories at the same time!
