True Performance Training came as recommendation from a friend, and Filipe Cotas (the owner and…read moretrainer) did not disappoint! I was looking for someone who would work with my 14 year-old brother on the 5x5 program that his school had assigned for the upcoming soccer session. Filipe was fantastic. He modified the program to better fit my brother's soccer needs and was incredibly patient and down-to-earth. My brother worked with him for about 8 weeks (roughly 3x a week)and felt huge difference during tryouts. The facility is brand new and well equipped plus Filipe's pricing is incredibly reasonable. You pay as you go and there is no need to sign up for an annoying gym membership. Here is what my brother has to say about his time with Filipe: Filipe not only helped me to become a stronger person but a more determined one, as his deep knowledge of fitness combined with his welcoming personality and unending patience created an environment of hard work and perseverance. His emphasis on proper form taught me the importance of not only the weight of what I was lifting but the technique I was using to lift that weight. Additionally, Filipe did not judge me but rather encouraged me to keep going when I made mistakes, giving me pointers to do so, all leading me to not only obtaining the strength I needed but the knowledge and work ethic to continue to develop. So in closing, Filipe's knowledge and understanding of fitness not only create a friendly environment to work out in but a mindset centered on hard work and dedication. P.S. - I recommend arriving 5 minutes early for sessions to accommodate yourself before Filipe starts working with you. Also, do not be afraid to speak up if you are not certain about something, at any point during your work out. Finally, push yourself -- no matter how exhausting it may be, Filipe will be right be your side to encourage you the whole way. I'm home for the holidays and stopped by for a quick class on Christmas Eve (this morning). I got there a bit early because, in my experience, you'll need to spend a few minutes signing liability waivers and chatting. The coaches, Dino and Perry, were great! Friendly and made sure I was well informed about what was going on for day and where the equipment was. The prior class was finishing up, and they were willing to share their mini white boards for me to us! As I was getting ready, many people helped me find or share equipment as needed, and there was more than enough space for a class of 15-20. Perry led the class and watched everyone, offering advise and making sure everyone was maintained good form through a rough workout. Drop in prices were average for most CrossFit gyms: $20, or buy a $20 shirt/tank and the class is free! I will definitely be back if I'm in the area again!

I come here mainly on weekends, when my home Y closes way the heck too early (4pm vs 7pm here)…read more I'd say that about 70-80% of their equipment is fine. Lots of free weights and strength machines. The highlight is the huge, high-ceilinged (30-40ft?) functional fitness space that features a turf area, a sled, kettlebells, plyo boxes, plyo smash balls, a do-it-all calisthenics multi-station that includes weighted pulleys, dip and pullup and monkey bars, a free hanging real boxing bag (nice angled uppercut bag that's just the right weight to make you "dance" to avoid the swing back, yet forgiving enough that you can punch it without gloves without risking a broken wrist or bruised knuckles), a pair of Assault bikes and treadmills, a Concept rower, some meh Schwinn stationary bikes (more on that later), and two full squat cages with plenty of plates and barbells. So, what about the other 20-30%, you ask? Well, their cardio machines range from so-so to unusably lousy. All the treadmills are Precor, which are a clear step down from the Life Fitness TMs most Ys have: smaller uglier fuzzy screens with spotty internet connection that can freeze up in the middle of a workout, noisier and less stable platform. The stationary bikes are a mix of Precor (typical mediocre gym bike with crap ergonomics where you feel like you're on a creaky toy bike pedaling against some barbaric pad not magnetic resistance) and Espresso (video-gaming type bike clearly designed to seduce ADD teenagers or lazy af adults) and the horrible Schwinn bikes (just as bad as most home exercise bikes, you can understand why people mostly use them as clothes hangers). Please please please can you guys get at least a few KEISER bikes? We know you can have decent taste in cardio machines because you kept your CONCEPT rowers instead of choosing some oversized gym-brand rowers which look impressive but have similarly lousy ergonomics. Oh and they have non-mechanical Assault brand treadmills which nobody uses because they are brutal on the knees, too narrow and unstable. I don't know who was in charge of choosing the cardio equipment, but that person needs to be put to work cleaning the bathrooms or something more appropriate! The other major gripe I have is their sauna --- it's spacious and new and pretty, but who in the hell decided to have only ONE row of seating? Completely idiotic, folks: did you not pass seventh grade Life Science, where they teach you that heat RISES, and that's why all real saunas have TWO levels of seating, with the 2nd one being a good 4-5 feet off the ground so that you get the full benefit of the heat in the room? Here you have to STAND on the damned low benches if you want to get a decent sweat in ... the sauna thermometer reads 170F but if you're sitting down you'd be lucky to get 140-150F, which is useless. (The sauna of the Melrose YMCA has the same idiotic mistake.) So, while I'm grateful that this Y offers me decent hours to work out on weekends making the long drive out there worthwhile, their cardio machines selection and sauna design really really need a rethink.

I started to pick him up and only then did I start smelling bleach or sanitizer when i picked him up. The teachers in Ms Brittany's class are young so I asked what certifications they had or do they have children of their own which I never got an answer. I'm still finding new rooms and amenities that make my membership really worthwhile. Most recently, I discovered the 18+ women's locker room, which is separate from the regular women's locker room and it is absolutely wonderful! It's pretty quiet in there, and it includes vanities, hairdryers, a pumping lounge, a sauna, changing rooms, and lockers. It's a very comfortable space for women, which I can really appreciate! I'm also a big fan of the yoga classes here. Tuesday night's "gentle yoga" is a great class with a fantastic instructor. I always look forward to going! There is a little bit of the spiritual aspect of yoga thrown in, but it is not too much. It is mostly focused on the yoga itself. And while it is a slower-paced class, the instructor will suggest ways to make a pose more challenging. Thursday night yoga is also a good time, and a great workout. It feels more like a fitness class, but it still retains that zen yoga energy. There are also day-use lockers that do not require a separate lock - just entering your own code - next to the yoga studio, which makes storing all my stuff really easy. There is also a lot of workout equipment! There is a good variety of machines for cardio (I love the cardio mezzanine, it's such a nice space overlooking the weight room) as well as for weights. When I do not want to workout in the weight room, I can go into one of their gymnasiums and use the free weights in there as long as there are no classes going on. In general, the Y is pretty clean and updated. The only exception is the regular woman's locker room. The staff have always been kind to me and very helpful when I need something. As for parking, the lot gets pretty hectic. It's on a somewhat busy side street off of a busy main road. The lot itself is tight and strict about the use of the parking pass. Overall, there is a lot offered here and I have always been pleased with my experience here.

I am unqualified to comment on the yoga facilities, the Fun Zone, or even 90% of the men's locker room. But lifting there I enjoy. The weights go "thud," the benches, plates, and so forth are clean, the staff is friendly, and the other weight-pile people are courteous and just do their thing. The North Attleboro Y gym doesn't seem to have as many "characters" as, say, the Attleboro Y does (which I went to for years when I lived in Attleboro). On the plus side, that means there are fewer guys who grunt "HRRUUHH!" after every rep of every set - loudly enough to startle even the swimmers downstairs. But there also seem to fewer true-blue gym rats - who often make for good spotters and "lifting buddies" in general. It's a trade-off. My only gripe: There are too many cardio machines for my taste. They take up too much of the gym, relative to the free weights. I declare a weight-room Reconquista. You want cardio? After you're done lifting (see what I did there?), jog across the street to WWI Memorial Park and run the hills for 15-20 minutes. Take advantage of the Y's location.

Overall, a very solid experience. The gym was clean and well cared for, the locker room was in good shape, and the showers were better than what I have experienced at a lot of gyms over the years; strong water pressure and consistent temperature, which is not something I take for granted. The staff really stood out. Friendly, approachable, and genuinely funny in a way that makes the place feel relaxed rather than corporate. At one point I was trying a piece of equipment I do not normally use and heard a dreaded "thunk." For a moment, I worried the infamous Lunk alarm would sound! I flagged down a staff member, who watched me for a moment, reassured me that my form was fine, joked that he hears the same thing at his own gym, and said he would make sure the machine got lubricated. Low-key, helpful, and exactly how that situation should be handled. My only frustration is less about this specific club and more about Planet Fitness as a brand. If you follow a structured routine and are used to certain machines, it can be frustrating to discover mid-workout that a specific piece of equipment simply is not available at a particular location. You end up wandering the floor trying to confirm whether it is missing or just hidden somewhere. I do not blame the franchisee; space is limited and equipment choices are real business decisions. But given how much Planet Fitness already leans into technology, it feels like a missed opportunity. A simple, up-to-date inventory of machines by location, accessible in the app or via QR code, would make life much easier for members who move between clubs. Despite that quibble, this was a strong visit, and I would absolutely work out here again when I am in the area.
