Wanted to try this coffee shop for a while now, heard great things about it. I was around the area so I decided to stop by. Parking is scarce, but that's not being taken in consideration as part of the rating, just wanted to make it aware for others. I ordered a Oaxacan Mocha latte with coconut milk. I give a 3/5. I like the dark chocolatey taste of it, and I loved the hint of canela, but it tasted water based. I also ordered their horchata matcha latte, 3/5 as well. Same thing, tasted water based, ordered it with almond milk. I'm not much of a sweet person, so if you like sweet drinks then this is it for you and your rating will be probably higher than mines. The place is very aesthetic, kind of gives off the vibe like you're in a tree house haha. Overall, it's an aesthetic coffee shop with decent coffee. Yia Caffe is an absolute gem located in Boyle Heights. You order and pay at the front window, then pick up your coffee at a separate window to the left. There is a cute little courtyard filled with picnic tables that's perfect for communal seating. Between the colorful murals and the abundance of plants and trees, you feel like you've been transported to a hidden oasis. It's a very relaxing spot to get some work done or study for a final. Plus, they're dog-friendly, with treats and water readily available. I originally planned on ordering the Mazapán latte since I love anything nut-related, but upon arriving, the Horchata Latte ($6.50) was recommended to me. It had a lovely creamy texture, and the cinnamon stick inside provided a fantastic boost of flavor. While it's definitely on the sweet side, it was the perfect pick-me-up. This establishment is on a corner, almost missed drove right past it, it was a little challenging finding street parking. I did visit on a weekend which didn't help the parking situation. You Walk up and order to go or eat there in the cute outside eating area. Oaxacan tamales de pollo con mole are only served on the weekends. I was curious to compare with the Oaxacan Tamales that I had a few weeks ago in Oaxaca. I was impressed, a pretty good balance of sweet and spicy and rich and smoky. 8 out of 10. It was a little bit on the smaller side than the ones in Oaxaca, but that's to be expected. Rose butterfly matcha is really good. There's no parking lot and drinks do take awhile. I always park around the corner it's really hard to find parking so I always take the drink to go but the outdoor patio is cute. read more

Best thing about this place is the location/setup! It's super easy to stop by when you're walking your dog, or on the move in general. Ordering & pickup are outside at the windows, and there's outdoor seating as well. The drinks were good, but there was a bit of a wait. I assume its because they only had one barista working at the time, but I didn't mind. Through the window, I could see the barista measuring out the syrups on a scale, and doing their due diligence of putting (looked homemade!) cold foams back into the fridge after every drink. If you like coffee shops that dedicate extra time & care into their drinks, this is definitely a spot to visit. read more

Came across this spot on Yelp while working in a different neighborhood and in desperate need of caffeine. Now they have no parking lot and the streets they are on are not necessarily street parking friendly. However I was able to get a spot for a quick to go order. I went with their iced horchata latte. Prices are ok. The coffee was robust on espresso flavor and the horchata flavor profile took a back seat. Still good though! They have a patio you can sit at as well. read more

They only have them on the weekend too. I must say it's a must try the mole is sweet but the spicy overwhelms the sweetness. Great flavor. The masa was nice and firm. A must try when you visit Yia Caffe. I'm not a coffee connoisseur but I tried the oaxacan mocha which was good. Little bitter for those of you who like your coffee sweet. Dog friendly patio. There are even treats for dogs on the pick up counter. Not too bad of a wait after we ordered just took in the ambiance of the patio with plenty of seating to enjoy your coffee. This coffee shop is tucked away on the corner of a moderately busy street, but once inside, it feels like a quiet escape. The outdoor patio is very charming, creating a green, oasis like atmosphere that makes you forget the surrounding traffic. The customer service was excellent, and the menu offers somewhat authentic Oaxacan inspired food. During my visit, I ordered an iced vanilla latte with oat milk and requested cinnamon powder on top. I was pleasantly surprised by both the presentation and the color of my coffee. It was just right for me, as someone who likes to see visually the coffee strength of a drink, the color of my drink made a great first impression. They also added a cinnamon stick and anise at no extra charge, which enhanced the drink and made it feel very cozy. This place would definitely be 5 stars if the wait wasn't so long, we waited at least 20 minutes to get our coffee and it's hard to hear your name if you're sitting next to the music. Staff is so friendly, there's a bell right at the window you can ring if you need attendance by staff. Tons of seating in rear shaded by a beautiful Wisteria Plant. Dog friendly with treats by the pick up window! I will and want to come back to try their Mazapan Latte, they unfortunately ran out when I visited today. Oaxacan Mocha -you really get shaving chunks of Oaxacan chocolate that settles at the bottom when you sip the drink. Bitterness from the chocolate pairs well and makes it perfectly sweet. Matcha Horchata -matcha shines through the horchata. You can taste both. Not too sweet either! Strawberry Matcha -a bit sweet from the strawberry syrup. I would ask for it to be less sweet next time. I'm genuinely cheering for this place and want to see it thrive. The atmosphere and heart behind it are great, and I keep coming back hoping the drinks will reach that same level. I haven't quite found one that wows me yet, though they do seem to be improving. I've learned to ask for things a little sweeter since some of the flavors have felt a bit mid & flavorless for my taste. My kids used to love getting smoothies here, but lately they've been passing on them, which made me a little sad. They said they aren't flavorful enough. I remember how convenient it was at Mugs to order ahead on their website and grab a horchata latte, especially on busy days, and I think something like that could really help this place too. Weekends and mornings can get pretty backed up and a few times I left, so a little extra staffing might make the experience smoother. I don't mind waiting when a drink tastes amazing, but it's harder when it lands just okay. I'll keep supporting because I believe in what they're trying to build, but I hope they'll take customer feedback as gentle encouragement. The prices are a bit high, similar to Starbucks tho so I don't mind. Maybe a loyalty card perk like buy-10-get-1 free would make it feel more rewarding, similar to why so many of us stick with Starbucks for the points. Found this place on TikTok and decided to stop by on the way downtown. I tried the Matcha Horchata and Spanish Latte and both were delicious. The matcha horchata was well balanced and I appreciated it not being overly sweet. I went on a Sunday afternoon and had to wait a bit for our drinks but they have a cute little outdoor seating area to wait in. I look forward to coming back to try more of their drinks. read more

Mazapan latte - probably good to know it's made of de la Rosa mazapan, which is made from peanuts. Marzapan is the one made with almonds. So I found out there was a different when my peanut-allergic friend swore she could have a sip and then immediately had a reaction. She's fine though, just thinks of it as an assassination attempt Service had me waiting for a bit, but the seating area is dope & the trellis is beautiful. Found this cute little coffee shop when in the area for an event. The menu is very unique and the sweet man at the window was so helpful. They even let me try the peanut butter foam before ordering and it was delish. We got the oaxacan chocolate latte and a cold brew with the peanut butter foam, and they were so yummy! The cherry on top was the mole chicken tamale we got as well. The gentleman who gave us our drinks at a different window was also so friendly.
