Hot Pot with Spicy Miso base and loads of proteins and veggies. Gotta have your customized dipping sauce too!
Sung N.

Here's a tighter, more polished version that keeps your voice: Cool, authentic Chinese hot pot spot. I've been to their Cerritos location and didn't realize they had one in Chino Hills. The concept is pretty fun--grab a bowl, load it up with your choice of proteins and veggies, pick your soup base (spicy miso, bone broth, miso, etc.), and they weigh it out for you before you pay. You'll get a number, find a seat, and hit the sauce bar to customize your dips. I've definitely had better hot pot, but this place is great for a quick, casual experience and still enjoyable overall.

I loved the food. We went on a cold day after a rainy day, so it was the ultimate comfort meal. It wasn't crowded on a Wednesday night, so we were easily able to grab a bowl and start building. Unfortunately, it took 30 minutes for the food to arrive after we gave it to them, which was a bit odd to me since I thought all they had to do was boil the food in the broth. My favorite ingredients were the original beef (so tender), fern root vermicelli, and tendon. I intentionally packed my bowl full to the brim so that I could make two meals out of it. I chose the classic herbal beef bone broth with mild spice, but I would make it medium next time since I didn't taste any spiciness at all. There's a build-your-own sauce bar if you want to add additional flavor and I appreciate that you also can get fried entrees or desserts from the kitchen. As for drinks, there's a fridge near the cashier where you can take out a drink yourself.

Herbal beef bone broth - medium spicy.

Great little spot for malatang with broth options that include tom yum, herbal beef bone, herbal, sweet & sour tomato, and spicy dry mix. You can choose your spice level. The meat, seafood, and vegetable selection is not huge, but does offer everything I would want. There's also a variety of noodles including packaged ones. The self-serve condiment bar has all your essentials, such as green onion, garlic, chili oil, sesame oil, bbq... I will definitely be coming again!

My current hyperfixation and with the cold rainy days this spot hits extra hard! The staff here is so sweet. They're a bit short staffed, seems like there's only 2 staff at a time. There are huge dinner rushes but they try their best. I haven't had any issues with items running out and sauce bar is always refilled. Minimum one pound per bowl. I like to weigh my bowl and add as needed. One pound is just enough for myself but I know others may grab around 2 pounds. Classic Herbal Beef Bone Broth -doesn't come non spicy, mild isn't too spicy if you can't handle heat. I love the herbal taste mixed in with the creamy bone broth. Has been one of my favorites. Grind Pleasant Spicy Dry Mix -sooo good! So flavorful, tons of spices added into it. I think they cook your food in broth then stir fry it after. Also one of my favorites if I'm not feeling like having soup. Tom Yum Broth -very tangy, which I personally prefer. I feel like this broth isn't as easy to down as the bone broth maybe it's because of the tanginess. But still very good. Lemongrass shines throughout.

So YGF is another build your own hotpot restaurant where you can choose your own ingredients and choose whether you want the beef broth in mild, medium, or spicy, or tomato, or dry style. So between all of the YGF in the area, it's not the biggest one but not the smallest one either. The selection of ingredients aren't all there either compared to the others. For example taro and nagaimo root isn't there, which are like two of my favorites. The food quality itself is good. A mild here is like a medium in spicy elsewhere. It's a bit on the salty side too. But it was really flavorful and I didn't really need a dipping sauce. Service is a bit slow. There was only 1 person doing cashier work and bringing the food to the customers/refilling water. Parking for this place is pretty good. It's a big lot and it's shared with multiple businesses. Overall, decent YGF, some slight differences on what's available compared to other YGF. It's just a bit on the salty side. Solid 4/5.

I feel like this place is going down hill. They're rated B now for health inspections. I couldn't finish my food because their beef tendon and quail egg tasted spoiled like it had a sour taste and I feel bit paranoid now if im going to get food poisoning. Hopefully it just ends with bad stomache. I could see why they dont do proper food item rotations probably. I can see the food not being chilled properly and see mixed items in another for cross contamination. I dont think I'll be back

Took the homie here to try malatang for the first time. It was my first time at specifically YGF too. We both got the Tom Yum broth. My only issues were that the seasonings get dusty as you get to the bottom of the soup, as well as the options are a lil more limited than other spots. However overall the soup was bold and tasty and the ingredients themselves were fresh as can be when it comes to build-your-owns. The format is mostly self service for the food. The most I gotta say about the service was that our bowls came out fast and they were on top of refilling our waters lol The restaurant is bright, simplistic, and smaller than other similar spots. It's also not as crowded so no wait times for us. Overall a solid place to start your beginner friends onto some malatang

My go to malatang spot! There's a minimum of 1lb of food and it's a lot of food but they have containers to take any leftovers home! They have a self service sauce bar so you can make any combo for sauces! They also have a card to keep track of how many pounds of malatang you get and every 10lbs is 1lb free! Great service and lots of seating inside but they do get busy during dinner time

Went after lunch on a weekday and the place was 3/4 full. Probably roughly 30 people could eat inside comfortably.... You basically get a bowl and get all the ingredients you want. You then go to the counter and they weigh it for you. A soda is 2 dollars and a cup of rice is 2 dollars as well. They have a sauce bar and some free fortune cookie. Options wise, they have all the basic. From lamb, beef, etc. to balls, veggies, noodles as well. I tried the tomato based broth and it was not bad. Compared to other places, like in Irvine... this one is okay. Options aren't as plenty and the sauce bar was just okay. Would I come back? I probably will just because it's closer to my place. I paid 16 for the bowl, 2 for soda , 2 for cup of rice. + tip = i paid around 24usd.

The taste is average, everything is prepared ahead of time then heated up for you. Good for a quick bite.

First time trying this place. Yelp has a good review. But here's mine. I gave 4 stars because it wasn't cleared and the staff wasn't seem friendly to explain anything. Assuming we knew what to do, which we don't. Food takes a little bit to be cooked. However, it looks great and it's delicious. I think the broth is fairly salty before I even used any of the sauces and condiment choices. Two bowls of food cost us basically $50, which if I knew how the ordering system works I may not pile in as much food. That being said I would come back again and be more thoughtful of the amount of food I put in and try different item combinations. Place is bright and roomy.

They updated their menu and finally have the tom yum broth! It was so flavorful. My go-to is the medium spicy beef broth but the tom yum broth is a very close second.

This place feels like cheating. It's a simple-looking place with cheap tables and seats, but the food it serves really hits the spot when you're looking for hot pot. Service is fast and polite. Instead of all you can eat, here you grab a bowl and fill it with hot pot ingredients, and at the end you pay based on weight. It's very cheap, I only spent $25 and ate way too much, I could probably comfortably eat here for $20. The soup base is also delicious, the mild bone broth is exactly what you want in a soup base, and of course you can make your own custom sauce (which I always mess up by adding too much vinegar, don't be like me). The only downside of this method is that it's hard to gauge how much you can eat, and so you usually will get more than you can to be safe. For the sake of science, and of course for all the lovely readers of this review, I have come to the conclusion that about 25 rolls of meat is a good amount for me, plus plenty of veggies. For most men about 1.7 lbs of food is good.

I wish there was a better way of seeing that list because I really had no clue and waited in line for nothing. The wait time honestly needs better attention. We probably waited around 20-25 minutes. It was very busy that day, and I'm not sure if it's because it's the weekend and/or due to Chinese New Year. Staff members are shuffling back and forth and are quite rude to be honest. I get that they are stressed running around, but still.... Anyways, we ordered the following via online (scan the QR Code on the table, that is probably better since they are too busy to take your order): - 1 shrimp siu mai (4 pieces) = $5.99 - 1 shrimp dumplings (we got 4 pieces instead of 3 per menu): $5.99 - 1 steamed BBQ pork buns (3 pieces) = $5.99 - 2 sticky rice wrapped with lotus leaf (4 total) = $13.98 - 1 yang chow fried rice = $15.99 - 1 seafood with pan fried crispy noodle = $17.99 SUBTOTAL = $65.93 TAX = $5.11 TOTAL = $71.04 ** Place $10 tip via cash ** We received our yang chow fried rice and crispy noodle timely, however it took a REALLY LONG TIME for us to receive the rest of the orders (the dim sum aka yum cha order); I had to ask the front how long the wait will be, otherwise we will cancel - the lady ended up checking and we got some of our orders. If I didn't ask, the wait time would be wayyyyy longer. Overall, we all enjoyed the food. Very authentic (Hong Kong Style). Management needs to improve and the wait time. Very small inside, this place needs to expand. There is another location in El Monte.

I did not expect a plate full sides stuffed next to each other, was a bit messy at first but overall the taste of everything was refreshing. We ordered the seaweed salad, the bean curd salad, and the spicy pig ears. The dish that I ordered was the spicy Szechuan noodles which blew me away. The consistency of the noodles and the beef slices were exceptional. The bok choy was also very well prepared and added a nice crunch texture. This is also a sauced dish (although my initial thought was that I was going to be a soup) which to me didn't matter. The chili oil was very well prepared and flavor packed. Not only that, the portions were enormous. Some other dishes we ordered were the braised beef noodle soup which was hearty, rich, and comforting. We ordered the A10 as well, but that will take me a couple tries since the flavor was unfamiliar to me. Willing to come back and try more things as many times as it takes! This restaurant, like most of the reviews claim, is indeed a gem and I highly recommend it!
