A friend and I drove to Chloride, Arizona to see the Roy Purcell murals that were painted on a cliff side in 1966. Purcell returned in 2006 and repainted them. This was my 3rd visit to Chloride, considered a ghost town, althoiugh it really isn't. Mining and cattle raising are still evident throughout the large area albeit sparsely populated place. My last visit in 2018 was just to see the murals with friends and then back to Laughlin where the four of us were staying. On my first trip in 2008, I stopped at Yesterday's for breakfast after viewing the murals. Fast forward to 2021. A friend who had never heard of Chloride wanted to see what I had talked about a few times. We viewed the murals and then went to search for abandoned mines. Success on both pursuits as well as seeing 4 free range cattle. We drove to Yesterday's and my companion decided that we should stop there. She had been hesitant until she saw the amount of cars that were there. The place is officially Yesterday's Steakhouse and Shep's Miners Inn. The restaurant and inn were constructed in the mid to late 1800s of adobe from mud and sand from nearby washes. The walls are 12 inch thick blocks. When you enter, it's like stepping back in time. The interior has some murals and is very western rustic. Wood floors, wood tables and chairs, and two hanging chandeliers. There was one table that had about 16 people eating. I think they were with the motorcycles out front. The server had a lot to do. She was working the restaurant by herself. She brought us the iced teas we ordered. Large mugs filled with good tea. We each ordered one of the day's lunch specials, fish and chips. After serving the large group, our lunch came out. I'm sure it was frozen fish merely reheated. If I were reviewing this place for just the food, it would be 3 stars. The atmosphere, the service, and the entertainment at lunch easily kick it up to four. There was an older man who sang and played his homemade bass. The microphone was taped to a walking stick--most probably a dried agave shoot. He sang in a low voice so conversation was easy. He did a Kenny Rogers song and when we clapped, he did another one. Chloride is a great place to visit. Lots of history, lots of oddities in yards, and those wonderful murals. (See the Yelp entry for the Purcell murals in Chloride.) This makes a nice day trip from Las Vegas. Or, it's close to the road that goes to Grand Canyon West and the Skywalk there.

Had a classic breakfast here. Awesome little vintage restaurant. The server was so sweet. Loved this little place.

The wine bar is on its third owner since opening around 2012. The founders sold to Diana (Diana's…read moreCellar Door Wind Bar) who was a distributor before purchasing the wine bar. She stocked wines not usually found in the local stores that were really bargains. The current owners have made further improvements, but continue to offer a fine selection of wines. With the renovation of Beale Street (Old Town Kingman), the crowds of First Friday have discovered the Wine Bar. Note that live music starts around 7pm. It gets a louder with the music, but the table within the stacks is quieter as are the patio seats. They offer a number of wines by the glass, a wide selection of bottled beers (and often one special draft provided by Black Bridge Brewery), or select a bottle from the stacks and add a minor corkage fee to cover the glasses. If you don't finish the bottle, re-cork it to go. Summer brings out the red or white sangria. Winter offers the mulled wine or other warm classics. Several local restaurants deliver to your table (e.g. Siren's & Floyd's), but check with your server for others. You can rent the facility on closed days for special events or parties.

Mattina's was a pleasant surprise and overall a very enjoyable dining experience…read more The atmosphere was nice and about what you'd expect for the area. Nothing overly fancy, but comfortable and inviting. The bread was fine--good enough, though not something I'd make a special trip for. They didn't have the wine I originally wanted, but their staff quickly recommended a comparable alternative. Their wine selection is actually quite respectable. Our server was outstanding. Attentive without being intrusive, friendly, and genuinely interested in making sure we had a good experience. My one notable complaint has nothing to do with the food. We were seated near the kitchen, which normally wouldn't bother me at all. However, one of the hostesses wore a very strong perfume. Every few minutes the scent would drift by and completely overpower the aromas from the meal. It wasn't an unpleasant fragrance, but when dining, the aroma of the food is part of the experience, and it became distracting. We started with the Caprese salad, which was excellent and properly prepared. The mozzarella was so good I actually asked if it was house-made. It wasn't, but it certainly tasted like it could have been. My wife and I split the chicken piccata. The chicken itself was perfectly cooked, and the seasonal asparagus was fantastic. If I'm being exceptionally critical, the piccata sauce was slightly thicker than I prefer and leaned a bit too heavily on the lemon. The extra acidity overshadowed the capers somewhat. Likewise, I was a little disappointed to learn the pasta was not house-made and arrived slightly past al dente. These are admittedly minor critiques and the sort of details most diners probably wouldn't notice or care about. Dessert sealed the deal. The homemade key lime pie was outstanding. The filling had a fantastic balance of tartness and sweetness with a smooth, creamy texture that was clearly made in-house. I even verified that with our server. It was a home run and easily one of the highlights of the meal. The fact that I'm discussing details like sauce balance and pasta texture should tell you that the overall meal was very good. The strengths far outweighed the shortcomings. Excellent service, several standout dishes, and a dining experience I'd happily recommend. We'll definitely return the next time we're in Kingman.

Although we were not dressed in suit and tie and formal wear, we were both dressed nicely, slacks, dress shirt and a nice summer dress. Everyone else was in shorts, jeans or picnic attire. I'm no snob, but once in a while it would be nice to dress up a little for date night out. I guess I'm from an era of the past, where once in a while you could put on a jacket and a tie and feel like a date out was a special occasion. Years ago you would never have thought to go somewhere nice and not respect that restaurant without a stylish attire. I believe it is just a time of causal everything and showing a little style is a thing of the past.
