Lots of dents, scratches, and missing pieces on the bumper.

Overall, I would highly recommend renting from Yes Car Rental given that it was hassle-free. I'm a frequent business traveler and used to renting cars throughout US and Canada. Normally, I rent from Avis or Hertz. We did a lot of research online about renting cars in Mexico and were a little apprehensive initially especially when it came to dealing with insurance. We were seeing other companies about $50 less for the rental, but online you read about the headaches of dealing with these other car rental places. Specifically, hassles with being upsold costly a la carte insurance or having to deal with a damaged car claim. We ended up renting a car at Yes because the reviews were great and overall very happy with the experience. I made a reservation about 5 hours before arriving at Cancun Airport. I communicated via text messaging and calling them through WhatsApp. They were incredibly fast in responding. They picked us in a Shuttle Van directly from the Cancun Airport and took us to their offsite office (5-10 minutes away). From there, they kindly gave us bottled water after hour 5+ hour flight. We filled out paperwork and had to leave a $300 deposit hold on the credit card. When we returned the car, the hold was released. In total, I paid $330 for 6 full days for an automatic economy car. They provided us with a VW Jetta. The car definitely was NOT new and had it's fair share of body damage from prior renters, but the car was absolutely safe to drive. Tip #1: Take a video and pictures of the entire car before leaving the lot since our vehicle had several scratches, dings, and dents. The attendant reviewed our call in detail when we returned it, but overall no hassle on the return. Tip #2: Ask for a full tank of gas at time of booking, so they have time do this before you arrive. This makes it easy to to determine how much gas to put in when you return. Otherwise, you'll get less than a full tank and have to do your best to guess when returning the vehicle and likely return it with more than when you rented the car. Tip #3: There is a GoMart / PeMex gas station just off the 307 Freeway heading North towards the Car Rental return. They take credit cards, but I got rid of some Pesos to avoid taking them back to the US.

I meant to do a review of this place last December 2020 when I was down in Mexico but forgot. Even though it's on my timeline to review so here it is. This is my first time going to a car rental place outside of the US and it's not much different then anywhere else. It was 5 of us and we was going to be using the vehicle for at least 4-days. At first they gave us a really small SUV mind you we all had luggage and it wouldn't have been able to fit regardless of how we maneuvered the luggage...please believe we tried! Lol. So they did give us an up grade for a little extra price which I thought we should have gotten for free (hint the 3-stars). So other than that they made sure we was good afterwards so I would recommend them, but just make sure that you over state how many people is coming so you know for sure that there will be enough room in the vehicle. Nobody wants to have to go back into their pockets to upgrade after you thought all was already paid for before you got in the country.

Good evening. I'm reaching out because of an extremely poor experience I had with the manager at…read moreHertz rental at the Cancún international airport location. My reservation L50305859C7, was booked to be picked up on April 2. While I was on my flight to the destination, our plane had to make an emergency landing which caused us to miss our connecting flight outside of my control. I called hertz corporate number and informed them of the situation and they informed me that they would notate it on my account so that my reservation would remain the same and I would just pick up at the airport 1 day late. When I arrived in Cancun on the morning of April 3rd, I explained the above information to the receptionist. They called the manager who said they would resolve it and just said to get on the shuttle and come to the hertz office. When I got there, I explained the above-mentioned details to the clerk who stated my reservation was in the process of cancelling and I could only start a new reservation: at 7 times the original booked rate. I asked to speak to a manager; a taller gentleman in his early 40s. He became immediately dismissive and said there was nothing he could do for me and began acting extremely rude and unprofessional. He then became rude and dismissive to my pregnant wife who was standing there with my 6 and 8 year old children. When I called him out on that he immediately became PHYSICALLY defensive and walked around the counter getting in my face in a manner as if he wanted to FIGHT me. All of this was in front of my pregnant wife who was sobbing and my children who were also crying at this point. He then had to be PHYSICALLY RESTRAINED by his co-workers. When I asked for his name he covered his badge and refused to show me. He was a larger Hispanic male with short hair in his 40s. My wife and children and I then left on foot to walk to find a different rental car company. I am absolutely disgusted with the lack of professionalism demonstrated by this "MANAGER". As a professional who works in law enforcement, I was appalled by his behavior. Stay away from this company.

Having finally given up any hope of a positive resolution, I'm posting online about my experience…read morebeing scammed at this Hertz location in the hopes that it will at least help steer others away from here. Here's how it works. You make your reservation online (in our case, we were pleased to reserve an SUV for 15 days for under $800, which seemed like an amazing deal). I had read on various forums that we should book directly with a local company, but I ended up deciding that it was worth it to go with one of the bigger name companies in case anything went wrong. It was a mistake. Once you show up to pick up your rental, one of two things happen. If you're lucky (like my Dad was, who was picking up at the same time as me), everything goes smoothly and you get your rental without any issue. If you're unlucky, they tell you that it is "illegal to rent a car without additional insurance" and tell you that you owe an additional $500+ on top of the $800 reservation, and that they will not give you a car unless you pay for this insurance. Not sure how you end up in one category or the other. It may be luck of the draw - maybe my Dad just ended up with an honest person checking him in, while I randomly ended up with the scammer. More likely, they saw that I was exhausted from a long day of travel with three young children and correctly recognized that I wouldn't put up too much of a fight, and also wouldn't call their bluff and just go to another rental agency. From subsequently reading about this scam on message boards, it sounds like if you really stand your ground and fight back, they will eventually give up and let you have the car for the price you reserved it for, but it can sometimes take hours and I definitely didn't have the capacity for that. Also, if you're thinking "my credit card provides rental car coverage", that's not going to help you. They just tell you that you can't have the car without paying additional money. Pointing out that my father wasn't required to pay the additional fee didn't make any difference (and honestly we didn't want to push too hard on that because we were glad he wasn't a victim of the same scam!) If this happens to you, you'll reach out immediately to Hertz customer service, but they will tell you there is nothing they can do until after the rental is completed, and to ask the Hertz staff about it when you drop the car off. You will follow instruction and ask the staff about the situation when you drop the car off. They will be very sympathetic and agree that what happened to you was wrong, but they will say they can't help you and you'll need to reach out to Hertz directly to resolve things. So, you'll reach out to Hertz. If you're like me, you will spend 4-5 months speaking to dozens of different customer service representatives trying to get someone to understand and care, but it will ultimately be for naught. Most of these reps were very kind, but they all said the same thing: "We spoke to the location, they said you agreed to the extra insurance, so there is nothing we can do". The fact that I was aggressively forced into signing for this insurance under threat of having my rental taken away did not seem to matter to any of these people. If you're thinking "but I have status with Hertz, I'm sure it will be different for me", I regret to inform you that my President's Circle status made no difference in any of this. So, five months after being scammed out of $500, I'm finally giving up and admitting defeat. My final act is to post my account of this experience on the internet in the hopes that it might save others from the same fate! I wish I had done more research in advance, as stories about this specific scam are all over the internet now that I know what to look for. I'm mostly disappointed in Hertz as a company for allowing this sort of thing to happen, and refusing to believe me or do anything to make things right despite literally dozens of emails that I've sent to different customer support members.

The total was $319.18, including $136.40 for the car rental, $61.78 in taxes, and $121.00 for rental insurance. When we arrived at the Budget counter in Cancún, the line of customers stretched out the door even though only six people were waiting to pick up vehicles. Despite having four counters open, it took nearly an hour to reach an agent. The delay was caused by constant disputes: every customer ahead of us was arguing with staff about a clear bait‑and‑switch, and many were visibly upset and raising their voices. After about 40 minutes, I asked my wife to hold our place in line and walked to a neighboring rental agency. An employee there urged us to rent from them instead, warning that Budget would try to charge us around $800. I explained that we already had a confirmed reservation for much less, so we decided to wait and see what Budget would do. When we finally reached the counter, the Budget representative told us we were required to buy their insurance or they would not release the car. We explained the multiple layers of coverage we already had, but he insisted it was not acceptable and presented a total of approximately $790. At that moment, it became clear why every customer before us was so angry. We objected and told him we could easily call for a ride and rent elsewhere for less. The agent said he needed to speak with his manager to "see what he could do." After about five minutes in the back room, he returned with a "best offer" of $669.08--still more than double our original confirmed price. They charge you "required" additional insurance even though the reservation specifically states the price includes the required insurance ("Third Party Liability is included in all rental rates") and after the long wait for their shuttle to take you to a location far from the airport, you're stuck paying hundreds of dollars more just to get a car. 2. They lie about how much gas was initially in the car and then charge you an exorbitant amount for the (small) difference, even though we returned the car with more gas than when we received it. We carefully took videos of the outside of the car to ensure we avoid them scamming us for fake damage on return, but didn't think to take a picture of the gas tank display since it's written on the rental agreement, only for them to completely disregard that (like the ignored the terms in their own reservations). When I arrived Ace (aka Movii) wanted a $400 USD ransome for what they claimed was insurance on the car in Cancun. There was an extended "discussion", but of course I needed the car to get to Carmen and it was already dark outside. ACE/Movii simply wouldn't let me take the car without paying this ransome amount and a $1000 deposit (the family before me paid some amount more than that). However, when I got to the Europcar counter in Cancun, both the rental price and the deposit were completely different. After some back and forth, they adjusted it and I ended up paying a lower rental rate with a reasonable deposit, which I appreciated--but that was just the beginning. When I returned the car, they claimed that one of the wheel caps was damaged or missing. This made no sense because when I received the car, two of the caps on the left side were secured with zip ties, while the ones on the right side were not. It was clearly inconsistent from the start. Despite this, they charged me nearly 2000 pesos for a cheap plastic cap that is nowhere near worth that amount. What upset me the most was the misleading information about the insurance. At pickup, I was told I had full coverage and that I wouldn't need to worry about anything--whether I hit something or someone hit me, I was supposedly 100% covered. But when the issue came up, they said the insurance only covered certain types of damage and did not include things like tires or related parts. That was never clearly explained. Overall, the lack of transparency, inconsistent information, and unexpected charges made this a very disappointing experience. I would not recommend renting from this location unless you are extremely careful and document everything in detail before leaving the lot.
