Honest, Affordable, Hassle-Free Best Rental Experience in…read moreCancun If you're researching car rentals in Cancun, you've probably seen horror stories about hidden fees and airport scams. The experience: * Reservation confirmed within a day * Clear arrival instructions and contact info * Friendly reminder the day before * Shuttle ready to take us to their office The car: We had an older Chrysler - modest, showing some age, but the engine, tires, and A/C were all solid (A/C is a MUST in Mexican heat!). Plenty of space for luggage, easy to drive, and small enough for all the parking spots. The process: Sign the documents, make a deposit, and you're on your way. Returning the car was just as easy, full tank, tipped the staff for the shuttle back to the airport. Smooth and painless. The price: We paid exactly what we were quoted - no surprises. $198 for 5 days, including full insurance. A $400 deposit was required, which was promptly returned. A few honest notes: * Gas is expensive in Mexico, but that's universal * A slightly newer car with Bluetooth would've been nice, especially for rougher roads So happy to support a small business that actually does right by customers. Do your research and book Avant with confidence. I'd rent from them again in a heartbeat. Bottom line: straightforward, no-BS, highly recommended.

It would have quickly dried up and caused no damages but we didn't want them to file a complaint and escalate our troubles so we paid a tip. Just keep that in mind when returning the car, no wet spots. The car was good for driving, a VW, good AC, had gas and it didn't give us no troubles. I would rent with them again. That was our only issue above. We communicated through WhatsApp and they even let us keep the rental for a few hours extra at no extra charge so they were nice overall! Good price too

It's a short drive to the office, where the check-in was efficient and congenial with Daniel. The original quote was honored, and there was no problem declining CDW as coverage is provided by my credit card. NO Hidden Fees. We were given a new car that got us safely to Mahajual in 6 hours. Returning the car was hassle-free, and we were quickly returned to the airport. For added convenience, there's a Pemex right next door. EasyWay provided outstanding customer service and a car with only 600 km. Highly recommended.

The price was exactly what I saw online, no hidden fees. Perfect. The car, however, was not. It was an absolute beater. Scratches, dents, and missing parts all over. Then I'm told if scratches/dents happen I have to call it in. There would literally be no way for me to know because it was covered in them. The engine was loud but the car worked, so off we went. I wanted to plug in my phone to see the directions but there was no spot to plug in my phone and no display. Not a big deal, my husband was my copilot. Two days after arrival we took the car out exploring. All went well. The next day I had planned to go to a cenote with a friend but the car was dead. Called the number twice. No answer. Messaged in. 30 minutes later I get a call back. They would send someone from a satellite office and he should be there within 20 minutes. He tried charging the car, no luck. He gave me the car he had, which was much nicer. Off we went to the cenote! Three days later we were ready to head back to the airport and it had a flat. There was a screw in the tire. The resort filled it up and we were on our way. When we returned the car the lady told a guy to check the tires and specifically pointed to the one that had the screw, as if she already knew. I'm thinking it was there when the car was delivered to us. The whole thing just felt shady. The price for a week was just over $200 with all the insurance, which is great, but I won't rent from them again.

Good evening. I'm reaching out because of an extremely poor experience I had with the manager at…read moreHertz rental at the Cancún international airport location. My reservation L50305859C7, was booked to be picked up on April 2. While I was on my flight to the destination, our plane had to make an emergency landing which caused us to miss our connecting flight outside of my control. I called hertz corporate number and informed them of the situation and they informed me that they would notate it on my account so that my reservation would remain the same and I would just pick up at the airport 1 day late. When I arrived in Cancun on the morning of April 3rd, I explained the above information to the receptionist. They called the manager who said they would resolve it and just said to get on the shuttle and come to the hertz office. When I got there, I explained the above-mentioned details to the clerk who stated my reservation was in the process of cancelling and I could only start a new reservation: at 7 times the original booked rate. I asked to speak to a manager; a taller gentleman in his early 40s. He became immediately dismissive and said there was nothing he could do for me and began acting extremely rude and unprofessional. He then became rude and dismissive to my pregnant wife who was standing there with my 6 and 8 year old children. When I called him out on that he immediately became PHYSICALLY defensive and walked around the counter getting in my face in a manner as if he wanted to FIGHT me. All of this was in front of my pregnant wife who was sobbing and my children who were also crying at this point. He then had to be PHYSICALLY RESTRAINED by his co-workers. When I asked for his name he covered his badge and refused to show me. He was a larger Hispanic male with short hair in his 40s. My wife and children and I then left on foot to walk to find a different rental car company. I am absolutely disgusted with the lack of professionalism demonstrated by this "MANAGER". As a professional who works in law enforcement, I was appalled by his behavior. Stay away from this company.

Having finally given up any hope of a positive resolution, I'm posting online about my experience…read morebeing scammed at this Hertz location in the hopes that it will at least help steer others away from here. Here's how it works. You make your reservation online (in our case, we were pleased to reserve an SUV for 15 days for under $800, which seemed like an amazing deal). I had read on various forums that we should book directly with a local company, but I ended up deciding that it was worth it to go with one of the bigger name companies in case anything went wrong. It was a mistake. Once you show up to pick up your rental, one of two things happen. If you're lucky (like my Dad was, who was picking up at the same time as me), everything goes smoothly and you get your rental without any issue. If you're unlucky, they tell you that it is "illegal to rent a car without additional insurance" and tell you that you owe an additional $500+ on top of the $800 reservation, and that they will not give you a car unless you pay for this insurance. Not sure how you end up in one category or the other. It may be luck of the draw - maybe my Dad just ended up with an honest person checking him in, while I randomly ended up with the scammer. More likely, they saw that I was exhausted from a long day of travel with three young children and correctly recognized that I wouldn't put up too much of a fight, and also wouldn't call their bluff and just go to another rental agency. From subsequently reading about this scam on message boards, it sounds like if you really stand your ground and fight back, they will eventually give up and let you have the car for the price you reserved it for, but it can sometimes take hours and I definitely didn't have the capacity for that. Also, if you're thinking "my credit card provides rental car coverage", that's not going to help you. They just tell you that you can't have the car without paying additional money. Pointing out that my father wasn't required to pay the additional fee didn't make any difference (and honestly we didn't want to push too hard on that because we were glad he wasn't a victim of the same scam!) If this happens to you, you'll reach out immediately to Hertz customer service, but they will tell you there is nothing they can do until after the rental is completed, and to ask the Hertz staff about it when you drop the car off. You will follow instruction and ask the staff about the situation when you drop the car off. They will be very sympathetic and agree that what happened to you was wrong, but they will say they can't help you and you'll need to reach out to Hertz directly to resolve things. So, you'll reach out to Hertz. If you're like me, you will spend 4-5 months speaking to dozens of different customer service representatives trying to get someone to understand and care, but it will ultimately be for naught. Most of these reps were very kind, but they all said the same thing: "We spoke to the location, they said you agreed to the extra insurance, so there is nothing we can do". The fact that I was aggressively forced into signing for this insurance under threat of having my rental taken away did not seem to matter to any of these people. If you're thinking "but I have status with Hertz, I'm sure it will be different for me", I regret to inform you that my President's Circle status made no difference in any of this. So, five months after being scammed out of $500, I'm finally giving up and admitting defeat. My final act is to post my account of this experience on the internet in the hopes that it might save others from the same fate! I wish I had done more research in advance, as stories about this specific scam are all over the internet now that I know what to look for. I'm mostly disappointed in Hertz as a company for allowing this sort of thing to happen, and refusing to believe me or do anything to make things right despite literally dozens of emails that I've sent to different customer support members.

I had a very disappointing and costly experience renting from Enterprise in Cancun…read more I booked my rental through Expedia for $245 and specifically selected additional insurance coverage, which was included in the price I paid. A few days before my trip, I received a text from Enterprise confirming my reservation and asking if I wanted to add insurance. Since I had already purchased coverage through Expedia, I checked "yes," assuming it referred to the same coverage. At no point was any price disclosed. When I arrived, the office environment felt more like a high-pressure sales floor than a professional rental counter. The agents acted more like commission-based salespeople, repeatedly pushing upgrades and additional charges. I declined multiple attempts to upsell me to a larger vehicle, only to be told they didn't even have the class of car I reserved and had to give me a larger one anyway. The real shock came when I returned the car. I was charged an additional $987. I later learned that by checking the box for "additional coverage," I had unknowingly agreed to insurance costing about $60 per day--far exceeding the cost of the rental itself. This was never clearly explained or disclosed. After returning home, I contacted customer service to explain that I believed I was confirming the insurance I had already purchased through Expedia. While they acknowledged the situation was "regrettable," they refused to issue any refund. I travel to Mexico frequently and have rented many cars, but this was by far the worst experience I've had. The lack of transparency and aggressive sales tactics are extremely concerning. I'm honestly surprised this location has so many positive reviews--my experience suggests many customers may not even realize how much they're being charged. I will never rent from Enterprise again in Cancun and strongly advise others to review every charge carefully and be extremely cautious when accepting any add-ons.
