I did not had any problem renting with Rentadora Joaquin. I was in communication with another golf cart rental and they were going back and forward about having or not having a golf cart available for the day I wanted which was the next day, to call later and talk to the manager or arrive early and hope to get a golf cart and so on. Well as soon I arrived to Isla Mujeres, I assumed was an employee from Rentadora Joaquin, or a promoter who knows, was outside looking for the first clients of the day and because I didn't want to mess around, sit and wait for the other rental cart I went with Rentadora Joaquin which was only steps away from the ferry. I rented a golf cart for the whole day for $43US, and that include gasoline and insurance and didn't have to negotiate with the price, cheaper that the others rentals. Next time I visit Isla Mujeres I'll go back with Rentadora Joaquin. read more

We had a nice experience here renting a gofl cart to drive around the island. I appreciated how the prices were clearly posted and that the golf cart was filled with gas prior to us taking it out. I read reviews beforehand about golf carts with problems but Joaquin got positive reviews which made us feel comfortable. They gave us a map and had a free, clean, restroom that we used before and after our 8 hour trip around the island. read more

Lastly even if they say all they need is just your drivers license over the phone, you NEED a physical drivers license to rent from them. No issues!!! $125 for 8 hours which was all we needed since we got there at 11am and weee back in the 7pm ferry heading back to our resort in Cancun. They gave us one of their best gold carts. We took a big Bluetooth speaker for the beach but used it on our gold cart which was GREAT!!! Just remember to get your driver's license back from them when you return the golf cart. We forgot ours!!! They did NOT remind us and we headed back home. ‍‍‍ Look out for scammers when you get off of the ferry! People will tell you "I'm the waiter from your hotel" or "the guy from the pool at your hotel" to get you to let them recommend a rental place or get you to go to their store. Very old golf cart. They gave us golf cart #65 and it stopped on us three times in the middle of the road. Took a lot of pushing and restarting before it finally started again. When we got back, told the guy in the office about what happened and he didn't say anything. He should understand me since he is the one who process our rent and he spoke english. The good- they had inventory of carts when other places were sold out The bad- they are more expensive than other places. I rented a cart for 24 hours late one afternoon. They take your drivers license or passport while you have the cart and give a "temporary" license with phone numbers to call anytime in case of any mechanical problems We tried to leave at6:30am the following morning and the cart wouldn't start- we tried several times even tried giving it a push and still nothing and the whole time we were trying to s saying no refunds it we tried the "help" phone numbers on the paper they gave me, but there was no answer. We eventually left the cart at the hotel and started walking/ running to our first destination . When we were done with that I tried calling the help number again and they finally answered. They were very sorry and would give us an extra hour- I told them I had to change my plans and reservations for the day and wanted the cart picked up and to be credited 1/2 day because they didn't answer their phone earlier and provide the help and assistance the person on the phone said ok. Later that day I returned the cart key and and asked for the partial refund I was promised on the phone and the person pointed to a sign that said no refunds. I then tried to explain the situation to the manager and he said that we didn't get any help when we called because they were closed (there are no obvious hours listed on the paperwork) and when I said no to the extra hour and tried to explain he just waved his hand at me and walked out of the office saying no refunds... I was so frustrated that I had hiked almost to my next destination that I had reservations at that I remembered they didn't give my drivers license back! When I ran back I asked the manager for my license when he gave it to me he said don't worry he will take care of me next time and give me a good deal- as if I'll go back there next time! Took the ferry over to isla mujeres. When you get to the street hang a right and shortly on the left is Rentadora Joaquin golf cart rental place. I was told to negotiate but we didn't on this trip. $40 per cart and we rented two. The carts are well maintained and we had no problems during our excursion. Have to leave your drivers license until you bring the cart back. Carts have to be returned at 5pm. If four people goes in one cart 2 have to sit in the back facing backward and between the fumes and the sun it makes it rather tortuous and caused motion sickness. I did see they had a four seater that all faced forward which we will get on the next trip. The people at the rental place where very nice and helpful. Even if you have never driven a golf cart before you will have no problem. Ask the staff for a quick how to before pulling out, they are happy to help. read more

The golf carts aren't the newest, nicest or fanciest but the staff are efficient and the price was fair. No scams etc.

Rented from this company about a week back. Extremely reasonable rates...easy sign up and sign out. They accept pesos and USD. Only knock is the cart we had was super tough to steer but it operated sufficiently. They get a bunch of business so not shocked the carts have usual wear n tear. My understanding is that Isla Mujeres Golf Cart Rentals is a referral and booking website that secures carts from various locations, Rentadora Joaquin being one of them and is referenced on their website: http://islamujeresgolfcartrentals.com/joaquingolfcartrentals.html We knew in advance that a golf cart rental was going to be needed once we arrived to Isla Mujeres. After speaking with some people on the ferry ride over from Cancun, we were told that walking away from the ferry terminal we could find better deals. About 2 blocks to the rightt / south of the ferry terminal is Rentadora Joaquin, the same location. The initial process of the getting the cart was easy enough, however, the staff provided no in depth instructions, just how to put it in reverse, which would later give rise to a big problem. So we took off and rode up a down the stip area, stopped at Playa Norte, then continued down towards Playa del Sur. Some time mid way there, among the many up and down hills, the golf cart began slowing down to nearly a slow crawl - as in we could literally walk faster than it was moving. Several people stopped to try and help us but no one knew what was wrong - so we turned around and headed back to the store. Irritated from being nearly stranded and wasting so much time, we expected something, but nope, no explanation was given, just exchanged to a new cart. So we went about our day, back to Playa del Sur and around the island. We met an American in the centro area that told us the problem would have been fixed by simply reaching down and adjusting the throttle switch control ! Why weren't we told this when we rented the golf cart? So with 20 mins prior to boarding our ferry back to Cancun we went to return the cart. The staff began this disorganized shuffle and search for our rental papers and paperclipped on driver's license - low and behold - THEY LOST MY ID ! The man their ended up calling multiple people on his cell phone and explained that another customer got into an accident on their cart, and the employee who went out to meet that customer and the police took my ID to report my identity to the police! Are you kidding me? You can't make this level of ineptitude up. I started flipping out yelling, furious they were giving my information to the police, furious they were incompetent enough to not see my face on the ID clearly didn't match the customer in the accident, furious they didn't seem to notice that clearly we were two different people with two different names, and furious they were wasting my time and causing us to miss the ferry. Finally the employee at the accident site came back and handed me my ID - with zero apology or explanation, and certainly no discount or refund for the hassle. ZERO PROFESSIONALISM. read more

We've rented both a golf cart here in the past and a scooter this time around. The golf carts are a fun way to explore the city and we've never had any problems with them and are a competitve price, but we found we liked the scooters much more. They require you to have a motorcycle license to rent, but it was way cheaper, faster and much more fun. Prices are clearly posted and while renting can get busy, it is pretty straight forward and the guy gave us his cell phone # just in case we had any problems. There is a bathroom, air conditioned office and they take credit card for a slight fee as well. For the whole day the scooter came out to around $20 USD, which was almost what we would have paid to go to and from one place via taxi, and instead, we got to explore off the beaten path and enjoy a few spots for a few hours, see the womens beading cooperative, local soccer game, etc without stressing out about getting back in time. I've been to this island about 4-5x now and since the golf cart is slower I've never been able to go much farther off the circular road due to time and speed restraints. So fun! read more

WARNING CASH SCAMMERS. Please read other reviews. Rented a scooter, in CASH. Was given directions to rent a scooter with a specific number, at the last minute they changed the number to a clearly move damaged scooter. They told us to videotape the better scooter, the original one and then switched it and did not give us time to take a new video. I took a video quickly of the new scooter which showed it pulling to the left but was of poor quality given the frame of time, my husband went 10 feet on it, it pulled very hard to the left and hit a golf cart in the lot. The employee asked to see the video post spill and then deleted it from my phone. We were completely ok with paying until we realized they had deleted the video and we're charging us because the scooter pulled to the left, which was why the accident happened to begin with. I immediately became upset because I realized that the video had been deleted, they told us post-accident we were fine and that no damage had been done but when we went to go get the license back they started tallying. Was charged hundreds of dollars to fix the entire suspension which was clearly already damaged. I had the police called, was able to pay with a card only after the police became involved. I believe without the police they would have insisted on cash payment, I believe the workers are probably splitting it between them. The total cost of "damage" changed after the police became involved. Honestly we consider ourselves lucky because the scooter was clearly damaged and had we been able to leave the parking lot we may have severely injured ourselves later down the road, but unfortunately we're still out the money. read more

Yelp is usually spot on in the States, but there are a bunch of off reviews when searching Isla Mujeres. Seems like a completely different user because many of the great or bad ratings were way off. Retadora Joaquin is the only place I would recommend getting a golf cart. I checked out 5 different rental places and what I typically found was a too cool for life young dude who would not open till 9 or 10. I stumbled upon Joaquins (even though it is right in front of your face to the left when exiting from the ferry) and found Victor. He was well dressed, very nice, not a hard core salesman and get this, he was open at 8AM. What a go getter. Just show up early and even without a reservation you will get a cart. Victor let me look over all the rentals and I found a new cart with great tires and rented it for 2 weeks. Never an issue, ran great and it ended up being about $100 less per week than many other tourists we spoke with. read more
