We had an amazing day in Yellowstone. Elizabeth was so knowledgeable on the park. We choose the tour to focus on seeing animals. Elizabeth had spotting scopes and binos to help us get a closer view and was amazing at spotting them out. It's really hard to pick a favorite moment of the day but one of them was a picnic out overlooking a large bison herd. We have been to Yellowstone before, having a guide made the trip so much more enjoyable for all of us. We will book again when we come back to Yellowstone.

Yellowstone Guidelines was the BEST. I don't even know where to start. We got picked up early by Phil who took us into NW Yellowstone for wildlife watching and scenic tours. From the minute we stepped in car, Phil was attentive and articulate and had so much cool information to share on what we were seeing. Wildlife tracking can be tricky but Phil was a pro and he actually led us to be the first on the scene for a sighting of wolves ! We were also able to see elk, red foxes, mule deer, bald eagles, big horned sheep, coyotes eating a kill, and bison like right up close to our car! It was amazing. Lunch was provided and it was quite good but the open air picnic may have contributed . We visited all around Yellowstone culminating in visit to Mammoth Hot Springs. Highly recommend this tour company. They really get it right. Thanks to Phil and Chris for organizing such a memorable experience for us!

Our tour of Yellowstone National Park was fantastic! Chris arranged our tour and communicated all details so we knew exactly where to be to begin our tour. We could not have had a better tour guide, Chuck was so personable and knowledgeable, he answered all of our questions. He even sent a text message the next day after our tour to answer a couple of questions not related to YNP. We were amazed at the park and had a great time all day! Thank you so and we strongly recommend using your company! Thank you Chris and Chuck!

Touring with Yellowstone Guidelines was the highlight of our trip. Our guide, Phil, was amazing. He was so kind, knowledgeable and professional.  We all truly enjoyed meeting him and hearing stories about his time in Yellowstone.  We saw some incredible things that would not have been possible on our own and without his knowledge and expertise.  We met up with Phil early and got around in a very comfortable van (we were a group of 5 and fit well). We saw a wolf right when we entered the park! Phil took us to a known wolf den and showed us mama bear and her cubs playing up on a hillside with his scope. We were lucky enough to see a bear being chased by a coyote up close.  We had the most unforgettable time. Do not hesitate to book Yellowstone Guidelines. Yellowstone is fabulous on its own, but it's so much more with a guide showing you where to find wildlife that you'd otherwise miss. Thanks Phil and Chris!  -Allie & Family

Our group of seven backpacked for 5 days at Yellowstone in the Bechler River backcountry. The experience was awesome and allowed us to hike an area that is very remote and beautiful. Our guide, Elizabeth, really made the trip truly wonderful. She was very knowledgeable and experienced in backpacking and she had a good healthy sense of humor. The trip was well provisioned suppling almost everything we needed. The only input I have is to make sure you spend time on the phone with your guide well before the trip to ensure each hiker is well-prepared for it. Overall - Yellowstone Guidelines delivered on a unique and special backpacking trip!

Had a great day with our tour guide Gabriel. He was very knowledgeable about the animals and the park. We drive through the park often and we still learned so much! We didn't get to see any wolves since they were on the move however we did get to stop and spend time with my favorite animal, the moose! We saw 8 tota and seeing the bear den was amazing! We never would have seen that on our own. Thank you for the great trip

Morning sunrise heading to spot wolves

We took a wildlife tour today with Elizabeth. She spotted wolves, elk, pronghorns, mountain goats, black tail deer, a baby bison, and the highlight of the day, a bull moose. We thoroughly enjoyed our day with her. She was very knowledgeable about the entire area. It was a wonderful day.

Black Canyon 31 May - 2 June 2025 with Frank, Mountain Man Guiding…read more Frank was amazing. Well prepared and seemed to have everything for every eventuality. His experience and knowledge of the trails, flora and fauna was reassuring and enhancing. Whilst we felt relatively fit 59 year olds, we were a little apprehensive over the challenges of hiking, free camping and staying safe. Frank planned the route perfectly and made sure that we did not "over do it" on any given day whilst posing a suitably satisfying challenge for us to ultimately celebrate and enjoy when in camp at sunset. The campsites were prebooked, private and located in the most perfect riverside settings. The balance of fabulous hand made (by Frank) dehydrated meals, freshly cut vegetables, snacks and perfect hot coffee ensured that we were well satiated. The day one wraps were inspired. The scenery throughout was awesome. Hellroaring and Yellowstone rivers thundered by the trail as we hiked. Spectacular and vast 360 degree views provide lasting memories whilst Frank's "stolen" photos and videos created a permanent memory of our days and as well as a terrific record of a very special and wonderful time. Absolutely we would hike again and if possible, with Frank. Thank you Andrew & Kate (Singapore / UK)

He had all the equipment needed for wildlife viewing and helped to ensure I could see everything through the scopes and binoculars. Throughout the tour he was able to provide education and would always stop when I wanted to take a picture. He provided a wonderful homemade lunch that took my dietary needs in account. We finished the day at Mammoth Hot Springs which was amazing. Spending the day in Yellowstone with Frank helped me to get my bearings and provided information needed for when I went back to Yellowstone without a guide. He is a kind person and I had a great time touring with him! Will definitely book again when I come back in the future and recommend him to anyone!

We booked the Yellowstone Lower Loop tour, and it was the perfect way to experience the park together. Our guide, Ben, was absolutely amazing! He arrived right on time at 7am with a spacious, super comfortable van fully stocked with everything we could possibly need for a great tour; including binoculars, drinks, and snacks. Ben was friendly, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable. He kept the kids interested and made sure the entire group was enjoying themselves throughout the day. He was very accommodating to our interests, always asking if we wanted to stop when wildlife was spotted or if we wanted to take more time at certain locations. His flexibility made the whole day feel relaxed and tailored to us. Lunch was at Old Faithful, and it was a delicious treat; sandwiches, chips, fruit, and the best homemade chocolate chip cookie. Everything was provided and thoughtfully prepared. This was such a memorable and well-organized experience. I will absolutely be booking with Yellowstone Excursions again, whether it's to explore another area or when more friends and family come to visit us in Bozeman.

Camp was good, cook and food was great. Not much communication from Phillip and all decisions of where, when to hunt were made by Phillip. Guide was good, but appeared to be limited by orders from Phillip as morning hunts were from before sunrise and ended no later than 11:00 am, evening hunts were from 2:15 pm to sunset. Saw several groups of elk almost daily. Guide appeared to be more content driving gator around with some walking/hiking to try to locate elk. A large hurd was located on the second full day of the hunt in the evening on another ranch not leased by LWGS. Phillip was notified of the large hurd that was located while glassing by not only the Guide but also myself. Finally on the fourth full day of the hunt the entire hurd was located on the leased property, at guide was instructed to leave the hurd and take us to another part of the property, words relayed to us were "going to leave them so we dont blow them out off of the property." Phillip, who was with a hunter who has hunted with LWGS multiple times, paid for his son this trip, ended up with the son taking a bull that was in the area. Father/son were nice people and father had been on several trips with LWGS including a bow hunt this year and an out of country hunt. Tuesday morning another hunter harvested a bull on a different part of the lease. Both were nice guys, very personable, the second hunter also knows Phillip quite well and had been to MT with LWGS multiple times this year to include a personal trip arranged for Phillip and his wife in MT. Phillip advised, as the web site states, 5 hunters, we started off with 6 one had to leave for a problem back home. It was clear that two of the hunters had been using LWGS for years, had been on multiple hunts with Phillip/Josh, hunting assignments were discussed privately or quietly regarding where each guide was to take the hunters. When we asked if we could stay in the field all day to increase our chances, we were told no. On Wednesday morning I stayed with my guide and my relative went with Josh and the last remaining client went with Phillip. We went to a location we had been to multiple times over the last few days. After glassing for a while, I located one hurd to the SW, which I had also located two days prior. I also located another hurd to the NW. My guide said he didn't see anything, I pointed out the two hurds closest one was approximately 15 elk two 6x6, 3 rag horn, 3 spikes and some cows. My guide advised Phillip of the hurd and they were headed towards a location on the LWGS and that we were going to head that direction. While in the gator we came around a corner and I observed them alert to the noise of the gator and seeing it but also observing it from approx.1200 yards. My guide asked me if I was up for a hike to try to cut them off, and I advised definitely. My guide called Phillip, I believe, then I was advised we were headed to another location no where near where the elk were moving in. It became apparent that there was to be no elk harvested at that time and that my guide was not only having to check in, couldn't make direct decisions and was being instructed on what/where to go and do. What was to be most likely a once in a lifetime hunt for a chance to harvest at least a rag horn or larger, had turned out to be a hunt that appeared to specifically cater to wealthy friends. Having hunted elk and deer for the last 41 years and harvesting many. Knowing there are no guarantees with hunting is one thing, however, limiting the actions of the guide as to where to go and what to do sure gave the appearance for the desired outcome, this coupled with the definite commerodery with friends who have returned and plan to return time and time again, gave the appearance and effect of our one time deal being insignificant. I was charged the "out of state" $ 50 fee when I have been a resident of MT for 34 years and LWSG was advised of. It was not only the control of our guide, but also the overall manner/secrecy and blatant difference in how the wealthy "regulars" were taken care of compared to the one timers. It could have been that I was honest about my career, my son's employment, which sparked a conversation. One thing is for certain, there was a definite difference in how we were handled and how the friends were handled. Really a disappointing experience on several levels. But there was a consolation prize, a deer call made by Phillips newly acquired company, thus the trip was not a total loss as we got a $9k deer call.
