Breathtaking Morning Views & Smooth Sailing to Orcas Island!…read more We booked our reservation in advance for the 7:30 AM ferry to Orcas Island on a Friday. Reservations are mandatory, so you definitely need to book ahead. As required, make sure to arrive at the ferry terminal at least one hour before departure (the same applies for the return trip). The round-trip fare for two adults and a standard vehicle was around $90. The journey takes about an hour, and taking this early morning ferry is perfect for catching a gorgeous sunrise over the water. Once you park your car, you can relax in one of the comfortable booth seats inside, or head out to the deck to take in the stunning views of the surrounding islands. The ferry features a snack bar and vending machines, as well as a wide selection of travel brochures and maps to help you plan your island adventure.

I chose a midweek (Wednesday) and post Labor Day, so much less high season/summer traffic. Last time I was on Orcas Island was back in 2011 and for The Homie, he and his friends went last June 2025. I was last on San Juan Island back in Oct 2020. Note: this ferry terminal serves the following routes *Friday Harbor/San Juan Island *Lopez Island *Shaw Island and Orcas Island To give ample time and to guarantee getting on the scheduled 725am departure, we left Shoreline at 430am. We arrived at the ferry terminal without issue by 6am. We were the second car in the Orcas Island car lane. Bonus for us, nice sunrise, and great view of Mt. Baker. Pro tips: Give yourself extra time - especially on commuter weekdays and especially weekends. No speeding heading to Anacortes, WSP can and will pull you over on I-5 and Hwy 20. Retain your reservation email - this will have your bar code that will be scanned at the ticket booth. Payment is also completed at the booth. For example, round trip car & driver, plus an adult passenger, plus fee using a debit card cost me under $100. Retain your printed receipt as proof of payment during your sailings to and from. Bring snacks, food, and beverages in an ice cooler. There's two onsite cafes by the terminal, as well as, restrooms. These have basic stuff like breakfast sandwiches, but it seems hot coffee & espresso are popular. Decent selection of travel brochures, flyers, and magazines on board. Surprisingly, there are also puzzles you can work on during your sailing. Bathrooms are clean, plenty of seating, but the galley may or may not be open. There are limited vending machines onboard. It takes about an hour or so, depends if there's a stop at Shaw Island also within this sailing. The ferry personnel are friendly. Big signage and announcements are made prior to each ferry boarding. Just make sure you and your passengers are all in your vehicle well before boarding for departure. Enjoy your ferry ride - one of the most scenic destinations in Washington State!

I booked a Deluxe King Fireplace Corner Unit at Anacortes Ship Harbor Inn on April 15, 2026 for the…read morenight of August 26, specifically because of its convenient location near the ferry terminal. My reservation, number 100480, was confirmed for two adults at $249 plus tax. The reservation confirmation specifically instructed guests arriving after 10:00 p.m. to call the inn on the day of arrival. I did exactly that while at SeaTac preparing to drive to Anacortes. At approximately 7:44 p.m., I was told that late arrival instructions would not be sent until 9:00 p.m. because the property was busy and full. I simply asked if the instructions could be provided earlier because I was already traveling toward the hotel and wanted to make sure I could access the room I had reserved more than four months earlier. Instead of providing the check in instructions, the situation escalated and the inn canceled my confirmed reservation at approximately 7:59 p.m. on the night of arrival. I received cancellation confirmation 136279 documenting the cancellation. That left my wife and me without our reserved lodging while already traveling. I had to scramble to find another hotel and ultimately booked the Fairfield by Marriott in Burlington for $217.70. The replacement hotel also put us approximately 35 minutes farther away from the Anacortes ferry terminal, creating an unnecessary inconvenience for our ferry travel the following morning. What makes this especially disappointing is that I did not miss a deadline, fail to appear, or ignore the hotel's instructions. I contacted the inn precisely because its own confirmation told late arriving guests to do so. A guest with a confirmed reservation should be able to ask how to access the property after hours without having the reservation canceled that evening. I have traveled extensively and understand that hotels occasionally encounter operational problems. What matters is how those problems are handled. Canceling a confirmed reservation on the night of arrival after the guest follows the property's own late arrival instructions is not an acceptable way to handle the situation. I would not recommend relying on a reservation here when ferry travel or other time sensitive plans depend on having your room available.

And not just head hair- It was absolutely disgusting! I would be terrified to cook something on the little stove they had in the suite , there was so much caked on black food ash - seems like it would be a fire hazard. Room also smelled like it was a chain smokers previous residence. We honestly dreaded sleeping there. We told the front desk and were offered a possible discount but at a later date- whatever that means? doesn't seem like follow through on that will happen. Would've been better customer service if offered on the spot. Sad cause this property has a lot of potential. Would suggest to management that they get better cleaning help.

They lost a lot of points because of no one on site in the middle of the night to deal with a noise problem. Two nights in a row we were awakened at 2 in the morning when the guest below us turned their TV on so loud that we could clearly hear the dialog of the show and commercials. This lasted until 5 in the morning when they turned it off. Sure, occasionally you'll run into an inconsiderate guest. The next night, the same thing happened. I finally had enough at 4 in the morning and went to find the room and complain. When I knocked and knocked, no answer. I asked a woman in the lobby if the room was hers and she finally said it was but refused to turn the TV down. I used the phone in the lobby to contact the manager for late check ins, yet it didn't connect me with anyone.

We arrived in our big shred truck and the first thing I was asked by the front desk lady was if I had just arrived in the big truck and it was not saying in the parking lot over night right?!! Uhh ya, usually when you drive a vehicle to a hotel you park it in the parking lot. I was then told that usually when people drive larger vehicles they notify them ahead of time and so on. So she goes and gets the manager that proceeds to tell me multiple time people always call ahead (ok no need to keep telling me something that SHOULD have been done a long time ago) how all the rooms and parking spaces are all taken for the night and on and on. My husband then comes around and says that he will move it no problem. She proceeds to talk over him and keeps saying the same thing. At this point I am ready to just go to a different hotel because of how extremely rude they are. Now I have no problem owning up to I should have called ahead however I don't drive an oversize vehicle for my every day car so I didn't realize or even think of this issue. It was a Thursday night in May!! I get if you are just concerned about having enough space for all your guests but there is a way to approach and talk to people. My everyday job is scheduling and sales so I talk to people non stop and being rude is NEVER a way to talk to someone! That being said we left at 6:15am on Friday morning and our truck was taking up 1 and a quarter of another parking spot and in their two small parking lots there was at least 7 or 8 empty spots available!!! The room was nice and clean and the young man that assisted my husband with parking was very nice however my experience with the rude front dest lady and EXTREMELY rude manager will not have me going back! I'll take my business elsewhere!

First, and most importantly, innkeepers Charlene and Beth were absolutely stellar. Friendly and helpful at every turn. Glad they were there to greet us when we arrived ahead of schedule and give us guidance about where to go until our room was ready. Our room was very comfortable. Nice cozy bed and great bath towels; a very important detial that is often that's overlooked. The inside common areas of the inn were very nice. Well-appointed community kitchen. We had a king room with a large deck. The view from our deck across the Saratoga Passage included unostructed views of Whidbey Ialand. When the sky was clear, the view included an incredible sunset, crescent moon, and the comings and goings of bats which we just loved. The inn is centrally located to nearby parks and access to the island's amazing food offerings including Cama Beach Cafe, Blue Heron, Vivo, The Baked Cafe (recommended by Charlene), and more. Nearby, we also enjoyed a wonderful tour of Matzke Gallery and Sculpture Garden, and shared time with the owner, Karla Matzke. If you prefer, you can prepare meals in the kitchen. Understand, this is more like an AirB&B. You will be provided with a numeric key for the front door and your room. Staff is available on a somewhat limited basis. Coffee is provided in the lobby, but you may need to make more as needed. The reason I have left this as a four-star review is that there were a few issues with the property. I reached out the manager and she "promised" these matters would be addressed. It's unlikely we'll get back there anytime soon and hope she will keep her word. Yes, it is the little things!

I will start by saying I was very let down by this location. I booked this through my Delta stays…read moreand expected it to be more on the up and up. When I first arrived it was like a ghost town, there was no other car anywhere around . When First arriving I looked around the grounds and overall it looked pretty but was not kept up at all, tons of potential for the gardens and I could easily have those grounds looking amazing in a matter of a couple of days and very little cost. Now its time to go inside, the front door entrance is manned by a digital smart lock to get in. There are no employees inside either, empty desk sitting by the door thats small, over to the left a small coffee pot and a water kettle and then a room with what looks like for the Bistro that also has apparently been closed for a long time and breakfast was something mentioned. The inside is very pretty but very dated. A friend of mine found some history about the place they also do not like to add to their site and they should since some would love it. Apparently the place is supposed to be haunted, a long time ago it says it was a nursing home and other things. I joked that my room or my toothbrush was haunted the first night but thats a story for another time. Going past the office area there is what looks like once was a bar for people to come and have a drink and hangout, it just had bottles of water on the bar. To the right there is a room with a couch, some chairs and a fireplace I did not see turned on once or a way to turn it on easily. Got to my room next which was number 2 and straight in from the front entrance pretty much. The rooms are also on a smart lock and they text you these codes way ahead of time, I sure hope they randomize them too after stays. I go into the room and its smaller than I was expecting but thats fine, to the left we have a closet with a couple of the roughest robes I ever decided to try on, they feel like a cheap towell and same type of material. The bathroom is right after that closet and the bathroom is not too horrible but also a bit dated, they could not even match the light bulbs. The shower looked like it could use a good cleaning including the showerhead with a lot of scale buildup. The mirror had chips in it and sharp edges being a bit unsafe for those not paying attention. Now into the room itself, there was an antique style dresser that was not antique, you can see the wood warping on the top from moisture as well. On that there is one of the smallest tv's ever with old resolution. The bed was not the most comfortable nor the bedding itself. On the patio is a hot tub thats a bit smaller than I expected it to be. The hedges are way overgrown and also limit some of the view, I seen from old comments this has been an issue for a while they fail to address. The fixtures have old style dim bulbs in them. The room had no fridge, no microwave, no coffee pot etc. You have to go out to the office area and brew a pot yourself since they also do not brew any coffee for the guest it appears in the mornings either, still no employees found during the morning hours. The curtains for the sliding door were falling apart and you could not easily close them nor have full privacy. The sliding door does not even lock, they have a piece of flimsy wood for it. The 2nd night there were complaints of rooms out of power, found the father of the owner showing up at the same time and was asking me if I had power. The internet was also down the entire time while cell phone coverage being extremely limited so I had to drive to town just to be able to load anything and I had a lot to get done. I will say this hotel is a waste of money, this is one hotel or inn I will not return to, even budget motels offer more. Looking at some of the reviews here and I see some of these issues has been around for more than a couple of years and the owners have not addressed a single one of them. How they remain in business is beyond me, maybe due to the travel sites still listing it as more.
